(gave wrong month)
and i thought it was much closer lol ~.~ fuck november seems so far away now when you look at the roadmap...
I haven't been on much so I haven't gotten a chance to do the Dalamud event that appears in town, could someone explain what the story significance of it is for me in case I miss it? Spoilers are fine. I still want to do it, but I've been playing a lot of other stuff lately and keep forgetting about it to be quite honest and I'm afraid it may disappear after 1.20b in lieu of another random event.
The current in-town event doesn't really have much to do with Dalamud, aside from the cult's name. All you do is get ported to a location, fight some dudes labeled "fanatic" and then port out. If you complete it, you get this in your lodestone history.Dalamud was first mentioned here, in a Lodestone lore post about it turning red and swelling in size. A limited-time event coincided with this regarding the story that's mentioned in that post. Something about rats and nuts... my video card was burnt out during this period, so I was unable to participate in it.[name] has walked into a trap set up by the Lambs of Dalamud, a ruthless doomsday cult, but was able to overpower the cultists and escape from the Sil'dih Aqueducts.
Since then, when you first see Cid during a GC quest he passes by and mentions "Meteor". Then, in the latest GC quests, it is mentioned more directly. That's about all there is to note about it.
Twin Adder's GC quest mentions most of that but adds that 10 years ago they couldn't control where Meteor would fall thus leading to some disaster. Apparently this time they have some ancient device that can actually pilot Meteor where they want it to land.
Haven't cleared the last? quest yet as I'm getting seals for it so there may be more.
Fuck Dalamud, my tamed goobbue friend will save me from any falling celestial bodies.
P.S. The two Garlean dudes were arguing about whether they should attempt meteor again. One reminds the other that they were unable to aim it with any precision and it totally fucked over some other region a while back and he doesn't want a repeat of that event. The silver, more pissed-off one says not only can he aim it now with something they have found/are looking for, he would rather have Eorzea wiped from the face of the planet.
Did they say why they're doing it though? That's the only part I've missed. All I could think of was to eradicate the beastmen.
The less sympathetic one said something about Eorzea being "tainted" and appears to be one of those cliche evil maniacs that thinks he's doing everyone a favor by annihilating everything. I guess their exact intentions are part of the mystery.
Will be funny if 2.0 is released on December 21st and Eorzea is destroyed.
I've done the Uldah GC quest and watched the Limsa and Gridania GC quest cutscenes on youtube so I AM AN EXPERT.
The Allagans (during the 4th Astral Era?) originally created/conceived Meteor (I think there are hints that Dalamud is even man made?) but they definitely made the machine to control Meteor's effects.
The Meteor project ten years ago was stopped because it could potentially fall anywhere, no way to control it, etc. (I don't think they went through with it, but it was a major disaster when they discovered this, iirc both Cid and his father worked on this project) After the failure of the Meteor project, Cid defected.
Nael van Darnassus (silver Legatus) is from a family of Allagan scholars (also a whole bunch of Garlaen political drama about him maybe killing his dad and advisors, and how he rose so fast to the Emperor's favour) and has allegedly found a way to control Meteor via Allagan tomestones or something. The Black Wolf (from the final mission/storyline quest... can't remember his real name-- Nael is the White Raven if you're curious) is rather against Nael and his machinations because there's some overt? (maybe I'm over reading it) implication that Nael wants to usurp the Garlaen throne as well. The Black Wolf argues w/ Nael over the usage of Meteor because he does not want to destroy Eorzea.
Meteor is being used by the Garlaens to kill the Eikons/Primals. Garlaens and Primals don't get along, I don't think we've been told why yet. Before the Empire just wanted to eradicate/stop the Beastmen and control/save the rest of Eorzea's races, now it's just simpler to kill them all.
At least that's what I gather, I could be TOTALLY wrong
Lambs of Dalamud are crazy religious fanatics which are prophesying doomsday (2012!!!!) because Dalamud (as you saw a few posts up) is growing larger/getting closer. They haven't been allotted any other story than trying to sacrifice Adventurers to appease Dalamud and stop Meteor (though I do not think they are aware of the existence of "Meteor")
I'm speculating that the scene we've seen in the intro was the launch of the first Garlean invasion on Eorzea. Probably beastmen summoned Bahamut and stopped them and also made them lose ton of resources. That ship was pretty gigantic and seems like there was a massive army to go with it. This must've put stop on their domination plans and now Nael figures with Meteor he will just nuke them and not give them any chance for survival.
My only issue with that is that then Bahamut can't necessarily be an Eikon/Primal. You obviously see Ifrit/Titan and other Eikon/Primals shoot out of the light created by Bahamut and the dreadnought crashing into Silvertear Falls. Well, I mean that appears to be the release of Ifrit/Titan which makes me wonder how recent that battle between the Garlaens and Dragons was--it certainly wasn't Ala Mhiga which was 10-15 years ago? Do we have evidence of Primals existing before then? Could they be an Imperial creation lost and accidentally sent loose on Eorzea? They seem to be related to the aether and the Dragon battle at Mor Dhona (seems to have) caused a huge surge in aether (they is some crystalization when the dreadnought crashes, and much more now--in addition to Mor Dhona being bereft of vegetation) also that whole thing with Nael absorbing aether and shooting it out of Bradamante. Do we know how widespread the aether-deal-things are? All of Hydalaen or just Eorzea?
