I don't think there will be too many clashes in the first place with this first name/last name system. The only names at risk are the retarded one based on something popular or simple expressions.
And even if there is conflict, changing one of your two names isn't that bad. It's not like most players have a strong attachment to their last name.
But since they have to set a priorities list regardless, I would do:
#1: Active characters (logged once since it became p2p) that are lv 5 or above get to keep their name, everyone else can be overwritten by a transfert.
#2: If two active characters are in conflict, whoever changed server lose their name. If the player isn't happy, he can pick another of the 5 servers.
Square is probably going to go for something simple tho, like whoever was already on the host server is keeping the name, and the transferred character will lose it.
Moral of the story; stop stealing names wholesale from other games/anime & shit and come up with something that's at the very least semi-original.
Outside of those ^ situations I don't see many name conflict issues coming up considering the whole 2 names thing.
Wow really? I always thought Lindblum was the most EU populated server. I'll keep that in mind when the time comes.
I'm expecting Wutai to disappear, it's one of the least populated servers based on the figures people have posted. We only have two NA end-game linkshells (0 EU), one is closed to recruitment and the other I withdrew my application from after learning of server merges.
As for how I would prioritise names. I would factor in the possibility some dick will try to steal people's names. So I don't think automatically giving a person priority on all their mules is a good idea.
Priority should go to characters that are currently subscribed that were created before the merger announcement (mid December).
Next priority should go to all other characters currently subscribed.
Then all inactive characters that have logged in during the past six months.
Then everyone else can have first come first served. If you've not played in six months then you can't really complain about your name being freed up.
Retainer name conflicts are going to be fun. I was kinda unoriginal with mine, even named one Sephiroth. Hey it's better than "buymystuffcheap" or similar that seem to fill the wards. I can't imagine SE will even bother giving priority to retainer names, they'll probably just reset them and make it a first come first serve at the retainer NPC.
Can retainers not share names? I guess I never thought about it. I don't see any harm in having them share names.
Mine are named Krabbypatty and Easycheese.
you can type into lodestone your firstname/lastname to determine if anyone shares your name. I find it unlikely that it will be large problem for most people, and if it is an issue you would think people would be quicker to quote people with duplicate names.
Retainers are big worry. While my names aren't creative at all, I'm quite attached to my retainers.
if someone else has Rocl and Roclshop as retainers i'mma be pissed
Yeah I was kind of surprised that they said retainer names are going to follow the same rules as character names. I don't care about my retainers since I am not attached to them but can't Square Enix use a similar method as Blizzard games? If I am not mistaken in Battle.net and/or Diablo 3 aren't you allowed to have the same name based on your Real ID (or some similar method since SE doesn't have Real ID)?
I can understand them using a set rule for character names. But when it comes to retainer names (to make it easier for the customers and the company) wouldn't it be easier to just have an "invisible" number attached to the retainer to separate them. Like you have Neko01 and Neko77 to separate them stored in the server profile, but then the players actually only see Neko for both players? Or is this simply impossibru? The biggest problem with actual character names is if you used some really popular name or in some cases Anime names (first and last)... I mean if you did you should of seen this coming at some point.
More Reinheart translations. The JP community reps seem much more active than the NA ones ~_~

Not only for actions but wasn't there requests for equipment or macro's to be saved by class also?
Also the dev team also acknowledges that their isn't enough macro slots so they will look into increasing.
Something about emote positioning when performing them. I never noticed this before so I'm not entirely sure wtf it's going on about:
I'll spoiler this one since it's more lore and I don't know how much people give a shit about that in this particular thread:Originally Posted by Triairy
Good evening,
When targeting a character and using a emote there were times where the graphic didn't display correctly therefore in 1.20 it was changed to where even you target something and use emote it wont face that target. (This change wasn't noted in the patch notes.)Originally Posted by hinatabokko
Here's a picture before patch 1.20 (before 1.20 if you use a motion if you have someone targeted you would face that target but after 1.20 it wont.)

This is sit motion while looking at nearby NPC; before we were able to do stuff like this.
With current emote system you can't do this any more
It's good to add new emotes but looking at someone to do an emote is basic things and it also gives the character more expression so I would like to have it put back to what it was prior to 1.20.
With 2.0 we are planning to make it where it will face the target, until then we can't fix this so we will look into this one to see if there are other methods to reimplement this.
Thanks for the feedback

Agreed
In that case, want new one for Hyur Female (since it's not new)
If you have any other requests please let us know.
Macro and lore stuff was really the only good out of it, but I figured I'd post up the rest anyway.Originally Posted by Triairy
Good evening,
Asked the dev team for including fireworks; not like the event's fireworks (the one you put on the on the ground) but the ones where PC can use by holding by hand.
For hand held fireworkd they have agreed to add. However to make the firework last 20-30 seconds will have some difficulty due to display so those will be adjusted later. Also asked can you also add the recipe so it can be crafted? they answered OK on this as well.
It's hard to get it implemented right away but they will work on it to make it for the summer. It will be some time till the summer but please look forward to it!
^ - On "emote while targetting", used to be that if you changed target during an emote your head/upper body would turn that direction while doing the emote as normal. Had some amusing effects like Lalafell /lookout looking swoon-ish at a certain direction (see: my avatar), or /doze while you're facing another way.
I will say if they ever take out the current "bug" of pulling out your weapon while emoting, I'll be sad.
The "we will look at this at 2.0" seems strikingly similar to "ps2 limitations". Hope they follow through.
at the core they're different though,
i mean it's a bullshit answer yeah but 'ps2 limitation' implies "LOL NOPE CAN'T DO IT" while at least 'wait for 2.0 dawg' implies "yyyyyeah maybe"
At this point, in all honesty, I'd expect them to be in hunker-down mode for 2.0. Apart from the content they are releasing for the current version, I don't expect much more than bug fixes to go along with it. We've hit the point where the work needed to make structural changes to the client isn't worth the investment given how soon that code will be deprecated (if not applicable to 2.0)

I just saw on the Dev Tracker feed on the JP forums that we're getting a 1.20c. Hasn't been announced on the NA side yet, so excuse the Google translation (although it's clear enough).
*Edit*Good evening.
1.20c patch, we are expected to announce next week.Originally Posted by Kanatan

Currently working for verification, the date as soon as they are more "information" will be charged. I hope you and wait.
After a little more snooping in the thread, it appears to be related to Hasty Hand (at least I think that's what "Hey Stimulus Hand" is) and some of the other crafting abilities listed in the 1.20b update notes. I guess the notes said they were fixed or addressed and they actually have not been, thus we're getting a 1.20c.
Weird. The 1.20b was so barren that I can't imagine what they'd add in 1.20c that can't wait until 1.21. Maybe they're just doing it so they can say "We update every two weeks".
Yay, more provisioning/supply resets~ :D
Reinheart posted something off 2ch that was came out of the most March issue of Connect On!
As far as accuracy/authenticity of it:Connect On March Edition

Thinking of Thief coming from archer class.
For dark knight coming from Gladiator class, have to complete Paladin to obtain the quest, maybe it's good where once you become dark knight you can't go back to Paladin.
For Arcanist planning to include at start of 2.0
It's more of the sorcerer class that uses magic and WS to debuf and range and a technical pet class.
(poster comment: Looks like they just stuck the stuff taken away/missing after 1.20 in this one)
Musketeer is planned for after that and also thinking of dual gun
1.21 is delayed
Job equipment will be released but the weapon will not, weapon quest is harder to obtain.
Since everyone is saying AF, AF so decided the name will be artifact.
In 2.0 there will be a lot more dungeons, ID level style dungeon (I don't get this one), adding level sync, and checks to see ex/rare flags.
Other than that is post 1.23 beta planned. (doesn't talk about it just says that.)
Guess we'll see soon enough.Originally Posted by Reinheart

Haters man, gotta love 'em.
But I'm a little disappointed that Arcanist and Musketeer aren't coming til 2.0. Limsa is a little odd with only one usable class guild there (though I guess it doesn't make a difference now that guild marks serve no purpose, etc). Can't be helped though.
And I'm kinda wondering about the weapons there... I wonder how 'hard' they will be to get. If they are too hard to get and aren't better than moogle/ifrit stuff, I don't really see the point. And if they ARE better than moogle/ifrit (mostly ifrit) stuff then incoming shitstorm.
