Okay now my little monkeys, stop flinging poo.
This is the entire question and answer from the interview. Specifically note the bolded version.
Q: Can you talk about the new graphics engine, what affect will it have on the game? What were the difficulties developing a new engine?
NY: The new engine will have scaleable graphics, which will enable users to play the game on everything from low-end PCs to PS3 and high-end gaming PCs, and this will be the biggest advantage of the new engine. As for difficulties we encountered, adjusting the memory for the PS3 version has been a challenge for us, but we're very happy with the results we're now seeing.
Someone posted a quoted version, that basically only had the first part of the last sentence.
Adjusting memory FOR the PS3 release version is not the same as adjusting the memory for all versions BECAUSE of the PS3 version.
Thank you for the clarification Siat. Didn't think people would need it though...

For exp bonus through food items the amount is same no matter what type of food you eat.Originally Posted by Niku-Q
Are there exp bonus different depending on the food type?
If anything else please leave a feedback.
Rest bonus info. Spoiler alert: You can take an inn in all 3 cities.

For regional leve we are making adjustments so the exp would be about same as when using guardian aspect. Then will the exp more than when using guardians aspect, or less?Originally Posted by Thend
The exp will increase more than when you don't use guardian aspect. (this is with the exp rest bonus in effect)
As long as you complete the main quest from either city you can take the INN quest from 3 cities and by completing those quest you will be able to use the INN within those cities.Originally Posted by Ticket
By saying you have to have the main scenario cleared so for me started in Gridania I can't rent INN in Uldah?
For EXP bonus.Originally Posted by Luca
Looking from non-crafters point of view this makes it where you can't use the bonus whenever you want (since you have to logout at the INN to get this rest bonus)
Exp bonus you can gain at fixed rate - Rest bonus
Exp bonus you can gain at the specific timing you want - such as Food or CS items with exp bonus
By preparing these two methods, depending on your situation you can freely combine the two. That's how we wanted for you to use this and structured this way.
You should read the entire sentence before you start worrying about that scenario.
Funny how that changes the meaning. As we announced back in October, there are so many improvements coming in Version 2.0 that it's difficult to choose one thing! We're particularly looking forward to being able to open up XIV to a much wider audience with the new scaleable graphics engine that will make the game available to every player regardless of whether they own a high-end PC or not. Our new, user-friendly and customisable UI will also be a vital component to enjoying the world of FF at its best, regardless of platform.
Wasn't it already mentioned that the poor pc optimization of XIV was due to the fact that it was built using Crystal Tools, which wasn't designed to accommodate the kind of stresses that MMORPG games could handle? Hence the 30/50 (forgot) models on screen cap etc.?
In other words, it could have been "optimized" as far as pushing the engine could go but the engine itself wasn't optimal for such a game. It's great for FFXIII tho. But for that one you only have so many models on the screen...
I don't think PS3 had anything to do with it..
But since they've developed an entirely new engine for XIV, they can optimize from the very foundations of the system up, no?
I'm personally looking forward to more of the infrastructure changes in 2.0 in making my decision to play again. Gameplay Factors are important, but those can always change along the way and have been changing already. But no matter how good it is, if the game is clunky then it won't b e that fun
I wish they would at least address the whole timer/cooldown bug that almost everyone I have spoken to encounters that is only fixed by completely closing the game (not just logging out). That, alone, deserves some developer attention because it's a fucking annoying and wide-spread problem.
Yes please! That is the most annoying bug of all. Today I logged in and idled for probably an hour to cook dinner. When I came back I clicked my screen and featherfoot activated and my timer was already 3 seconds off. How does this bug even occur? Seems to pop up all the time just at random!
I actually have a problem with the timer not appearing at all very often. So I just have to guess when I can use a skill :< And re-logging doesn't help at all.
Jesus Christ, yes. It's not even changing jobs that causes it; I can log out on ARC today, log in on ARC tomorrow, and my timers are screwed from jump.
The only thing I've found so far that stops my timers from consistently being screwed up on login is to make sure to log out in a low-traffic area (I've been logging out in Hall of Flames).
"Server limitations, please await the fix in 2.0"*
*Not an actual dev quote.
You say that jokingly, but of course I'm almost certain that's why it isn't fixed (at least I'm certain that's the answer they'd give as to why it isn't fixed).

The planned Hamlet Defense coming in 1.22 is being developed as a content not only for battle class but where crafters and gatherers can participate as well. It will be post 1.21 but we will post some details on the Topics so please look forward to them!.Originally Posted by KYUTEN

Once you enter the INN and after some time passing the rest bonus will start accumulating it doesn't mean you have to logout to get the bonus.Originally Posted by YukiAri

For medicine's item help it will display the detailed effect such as [STR+_%, Recast time _ seconds] and also we are planning to have a simple version on the log once the item is used.Originally Posted by milua
In the Topics information it states that it will show the parameter increase, duration, reuse timer info but only showed this for food and didn't state it under the medicines. Could you please also display these info for medicine?
From what I am told, the timer bug grows with every little graphic-lag hiccup your game has. As if the timers get delayed along with your frame rate... Which really adds up over time. I just don't know if people running the game on minimal settings encounter this much less severely or not. It seems as though everyone suffers from it.
I've never had it happen to me and neither has my wife; we both run on max settings. I actually thought it got cleared up in one of the patches since I hadn't heard anyone complain about it in awhile, then it started happening all at once to several people in my LS again.
It happens to me every day and it becomes just noticeable after maybe 2 hours or so, but doesn't become really inhibiting until the 4 hour mark or so. I run with almost max settings (lol, no ambient occlusion) and in windowed mode. It's 100% unbearable if I am actually fighting because I generally always leave my game logged in overnight. Shit like Cure or Jarring Strike end up showing zero cooldown at all...
I've never seen the bug go a away since launch... :/
Remember when I made that speculation that Yoshi's story direction might be to equate the flow Aether with Lifestream/Mako?
http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...ndex.html#news
According to ancient Mi’qote mystics, aetheric energy permeates all creation even as it exists in its own distinct dimension, parted from the physical plane. If Eorzea might be compared to a colossal creature, aether would be the lifeblood that courses through its veins, supplying it with sustenance.I'll still put my money on Nael van Darnus trying to secretly pull a Sephiroth with Meteor. The people of the past were adept in the application of aetheric energy. Not only did they possess the proficiency to pinpoint those places with high concentrations of aether; they had the expertise to exploit that power, and thereby created the gateways that allow us to travel tremendous distances in hardly a hairy heartbeat
