Eh, he makes no actual implication in the existing dialog... He only says that they found something so they can actually aim Meteor (unlike before) and that annihilating the area and leaving a void of nothingness would be better than Eorzea's taint. Nothing about actually using or taking advantage of any Aether. The only existing mention of Aether is the devices found in Toto-Rak were imperial magitek machines used to measure and record Aether flow through the region.

Perhaps Eorzea is bracing itself for the impact (which is what results in the crazy distorted landmasses in post 2.0 maps), because it obviously doesn't destroy Eorzea and leave a void.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought all you meant was that he was trying to wreck Dalamud into Eorzea. All I could think of in response was... "Well, duh".

I disliked FF7, so the more subtle references of things fly way over my head, but the Aether business sounds like a cool reasoning behind revamped maps.

That would definitely make sense and explains why it gets worse the longer you've had the game running. I've had timers out by over a minute before. Always had to re-log before any raids and it became a bigger pain with the change to light shot. Probably why more people started complaining about it. A few seconds used to be tolerable, now it's horrible.

And I totally agree with those suggesting server limitations as to why it isn't fixed. It's the most obvious bug in the game and has been for a while yet it hasn't been addressed. It's hard to believe SE are unaware of it.

Semantics, maybe... but seriously? Subtle reference? That was Sephiroth's entire goal... you know, the whole reason he wanted to ram a meteor into the planet. He wanted to take the energy that the planet would gather to 'heal the wound'.

The timer bug happened ( I think) when I lagged during the login process (usually when I click twice on "log on").

It's all a red herring. Turns out we'll escape in to an alternate dimension and that will explain the map differences.

Huh, due to graphic lag? No wonder I've never experienced this before.

Subtle to me, I guess. I realize he wanted to wreck the planet, but I thought that was it. I didn't realize it he cared at all about the lifestream. That whole game was a complete mindfuck for me though, so /shrug

    ANYWAY

Seriously? How many times are they going to push this back? I feel like it's not going to actually be done until 2.0 hits.

Does it matter? Are you even paying? I feel like almost nobody in this thread who is bitching is even subscribed.

Yes. Hamlet defense is one of the few announced pre-2.0 things that actually interest me. Perhaps that's because there are so few details that my mind can make up whatever crazy fun ideas it can imagine, but I do still pay (and play). I'm online right now chopping trees in Cedarwood.

If hamlets are anything more than "Behest with seals" and "provisions in the middle of nowhere" I'd be surprised honestly, even if I hope I'm wrong. If it's being pushed back a whole freakin' patch I damn well better be wrong.

The fact that it keeps being pushed back gives me hope that they are going to do something fun/different with them.

the aether will emerge from within Hydaelyn, protecting the planet from Meteor as the primal Alexander finishes his cast of holy. Holy, and the damage from the aether destroys Meteor, but the effect of concentrated aether transforms the face of the planet forever.

I'd laugh so hard if they just decided to rip-off the FF7 ending wholesale like that.

It would be funny if the new world they are designing is based on FFVII's world. They've already said they want to reserve names like Midgar and Gold Saucer for future content.

Well, FFVII isn't the only one mentioning lifestream like magical energy. in FFX there's the whole pyreflies and farplane, and the pyreflies holding the memories of those who've gone before and all that. In fact, in FFX-2 international + last mission, at one point shinra (genius al bhed kid, always inventing shit at impossible speeds) mentions how the farplane is full of energy and tries to create a machine to tap into said energy... and fails and turns into a monster, then you gotta beat him to a pulp to save him or something. lol.

But the story team mentioned how shinra was actually the great great ancestor of those who founded the shinra corporation, and how his machine to tap into the farplane was possibly what was used to create the mako reactors. then there's the whole spheres/ materia thing, as spheres also retain memories, can have abilities unlocked through use (the sphere grid), and it's made with water imbued with pyreflies from special springs.

I don't quite think that the whole lifesteam idea is exactly original to FFVII though. the whole aetheric/ astral plane with magical energy flowing through the planet, being the energy of life, is something you see in some form or another in a lot of books and games; take the heralds of valdemar series for example. FFVII is just extremely well known so people's minds just jump to that without realizing it's not that unique a concept after all lol.
