I think gaining recipes by quest or leve is an interesting thing to do with DoH.

Would be an interesting idea. I wouldn't mind a crafting system somewhat like Skyrim's blacksmithing either, minus needing to level up/use perks for higher tier recipes.

I don't have the URL, but Yoshida also showed some scenes from the job questlines. That Black/Gold Dragoon AF looked badassed. Too bad it's NPC only.

NPC only? Isn't that exactly the AF shown in the job picture... meaning we do indeed get it? Or is it a different color for us? I forget...

Man, looking back at where I was shown that... that red BLM AF has been in the .dats since at least July 22, 2011.

It's so stupid easy for them to create different color/texture combinations of already existing gear in this game by just assigning different chunks of the model with different color/pattern/bumpmap values. There's a lot more gear than just this red Black Mage attire that we won't have access to for a long time or ever. Just look at the NPCs in any Adventurers' Guild. ;/

In fact, the Black Mage attire we were shown wasn't red or blue.

(Yeah, the Dragoon there doesn't look to be completely black, unless that's the flare from the blue sky around him making him look dark BLURPLE.)

Also, on v2.0 & PS3 servers:

There were some questions in regards to future plans for “fresh start” Worlds, so we wanted to pass along some info on that. We’re planning to set up new servers for the release of 2.0 and launch of the PS3 version (of course, new players that are just starting out can still choose existing Worlds to start on).

When these Worlds are created, it will be possible to make new characters there. However, as a temporary measure, we’re planning to make it so characters from already existing Worlds won't be able to transfer there.

Makes sense. Allowing veterans to transfer their level 50 everything characters with mountains of gil to what are supposed to be fresh start servers is counter-intuitive. You want a fresh server? You can start at level 1.

It's going to happen anyway when they do lift the restriction. Even if they wait a year, the economy will never reach the levels of gil on other servers.

What they should do is wait a few months after launch, open up transfers and put a 5mil or whatever cap on the amount of gil you can take with you.

I just finished writing the next Letter from the Producer a bit ago, and it should reach the hands of the translators first thing tomorrow morning. I would like to have this released as soon as possible.

Due to the nature of when he posted that (5:30AM JP time), it was difficult to say whether we'd see the letter today or tomorrow. At this point, I don't expect to see it today.

It's quite possible that the translators are living/located in their respective areas, so when he means the letter will 'reach the hands of the translators first thing tomorrow morning' it might mean it will reach them in the morning of each respective time zone. Then there's the issue of waiting until each and every translator is finished translating so they can release them simultaneously, which will probably not happen until the Japan office is open (4am in Japan as I'm writing this, as reference). So it's release may be very well be delayed by at least a full day.

A few translated dev comments reveal that they are going to do something about "Materia" and "Repair" being right next to each other on the item menu, where it's easy to accidentally destroy your gear instead of repair it. (I, admittedly, have done that a few times.)

This one is a bit trickier to decipher:

I'm guessing it has to do with the next holiday event and that it's not likely that we will get any wooden katanas or great katanas as holiday items (like in XI) due to how XIV's Armory system works until there are existing classes for those weapon types. However, we will be seeing the Yukatas come back.

In future if there is a job that is like that (Asian) we will definitely implement Asian equipment (such as Japanese Katana or Armor) however please note that even if we are going to implement it's going to be some time ahead so would appreciate if you can just sit tight and wait for this one.

But... for those that might say "I can't wait that long!" here's is some good info!
Few of you already wrote it but for this summer event we are planning to give out Yukata (Japanese Kimono wear) Please look forward to this one as well

Well I think what people were asking for was the wooden katanas/swords like XI had. Those literally had no use until Abyssea came around, either, so I don't think it's useful gear being held back, it's trading one set of "some really shitty rare/ex gear that has literally no use" for another.
