I use the macro sets all the time, and I have found them to be extremely useful while playing with a controller. I honestly haven't noticed macros being that slow, maybe its because I'm spamming them ahead of time, but either way it's a good way to avoid fumbling up and down through line 2 and 3 on the action bar.

For archer, I set it up so R2 would bring up all my defensive buffing abilities like second wind, cure, and sentinel while on the L2 I have all my offensive buffs such as bloodletter, quelling strike, and Keen's, and it frees up my action bar 1 for only offensive actions. This may be similar to just scrolling up and down for action bar 1 and 2 but I find that there are two advantages, one is that the cursor on macro's doesn't follow the same cursor on the action bar, I can be scrolled all the way to the left on the action bar, yet when I hit R2 the cursor will be all the way right on the abilities I use often. Another advantage I find it easier to hit R2/L2 and hitting an action is easier then pressing up or down, hitting an action, and then hitting up or down again to get to the line that you use most often.

It may just be small actions but they seem to save time. A friend was parsing a few moogle fights and I believe I was able to preform 5-20 more actions then others those during those fights, and the extra actions would probably account for not fumbling so much in the menus and using macros.

Either way, I found them to be useful for those reasons~

    >People saying macros are useless because they're so slow
    >People using gear swaps as an example of macros being slow
    >People saying the only use for macros is gear swaps

For things like spells and abilities macros are no slower than anything else.

I use macros for reaction abilities and support spells and they're incredibly useful. You can snap right to the skill/spell instead of fumbling about your action bar looking for them before your opportunity window closes and/or your party member is dead.

it's only slow for equipping and u dont really swap gear midfight in FFXIV and they clearly said they have no intention of bringing that shitty system back.

Ideally, you become accustomed enough to whatever controller/keyboard setup you're using that there is no "fumble". Just "(possible bar up/down), hit key".
IE: On CNJ I stick to my heal bar (cure, buffs, Blissful etc) with nukes page-down and things-I-won't-hit-often (Cleric, Resonance) page-up.

It's a playstyle comfort thing; I do use reactions via macro sometimes but it's not any fundamentally different than just putting the reaction on my "main" bar except I get a little more space.
Stacking multiple abilities goes back to the "uncontrollable autopilot" thing I mentioned earlier though.

Stacking abilities is bugged yea (latency, lag, SE, whatever), I only use it in a macro for Bloodbath+Blood for Blood.

For whatever reason /wait 1 misfires pretty often but /wait 1.5 always works as far as I can tell.

I find the action bar to be a hassle sometimes, so thanks for the macro ideas.

A little, but mostly action bar for everything. Used to use them for Ifrit but then he got figured out. Like Niiro said, it's fine for abilities but gear swapping is slow no matter how you do it.

Yep, I use it for abilities... I don't like pressing up and down and shit like that. Anything where I'm riding the timer like a madman goes on the first bar and everything else goes to macros.
I'm a bit faster with alt+1 than up xx 1 anyway.

I'm playing FFXI like I play every other computer games. Meaningful abilities with short timers and CD are on the action bar, and I use a mixture of 0-9 hotkey and clicks to get them. Every other abilities are bound to alt#1-6 and ctrl#1-6. The reason why I stop at 6 is that 7+ are out of reach with my left hand.

The less important shit get bound anywhere else.

The abilities that are rooted to my first action bar are things that I want to use as soon as cooldown is up (on ARC, that's 4 WS + 4 buffs, plus Light Shot & Cure for the time being). Everything else is on macro.

I guess it's easier for a THM or CNJ since we don't have to smash buttons. We'd run out of MP and/or get animation locked at a bad time.

Funny how we're getting 2-3 lodestone entries per day now. I wonder why we couldn't get some of these 2 weeks ago, it would've saved a lot of forum rage, lol.

Some of these go in different places (mehbe the Job thread), but I'm going to just dump them here. Reinheart, etc.

CSE - Has parameters for more overall use keeping solo play in mind.

We are looking into separating the direction the gears (JSE/CSE) are goign to take.
We are still at the stage of making adjustments and looking into this but once we have an update will let you know.

If you have other questions regarding job system please leave a feedback, thanks.

Current system the dev team is thinking is choosing the HQ/NQ before choosing the recipe and you will also be able to set percentage on how much to use. For example if you want everything (materials) to be NQ or everything to be HQ you can set this up before the crafting. (You wont have to go through steps of choosing materials over again)

Also it's possible to keep that information to keep on crafting afterwards.
Also to set this up for each recipe might be troublesome so we are currently structuring the system to where you can setup everything at once as well, so it wont make too much steps for crafting.

It's still at stage of being designed so the feature may change in the future but just think of it that this is the direction we are currently taking it to.

It's been commented here (link above) regarding crafting in 2.0 but in 2.0 instead of putting materials to craft yourself you choose the recipe and it will automatically set the materials to start crafting.

For recipe basically once you reach the crafting level it will show up in the recipe list and we are looking into recipes where you can only obtain from other leve or quest and for those recipes you will be able to craft after you obtain the recipe.
There are two more Yoshida posts that will either pop up by Mr. Reinheart or the Community Team as well. Both appear to be about casting changes and /facetarget.

Fairly informative day, although I don't know if all of it is great. Still better than it has been!

    Interesting new dev post

    Greetings!

Yoshida has posted more information about the /facetarget command that will be implemented in patch 1.21. Hopefully this will help with any confusion that some of you may have about this new function.

I’d like to follow up on a few things.
As stated on topics, the video was made for mouse and keyboard controls, so please keep this in mind.

Since YukiAri’s comment is extremely appropriate, I’d like to quote it.

With the H key, when you move with WASD, even if you take your finger off the keys there is still some inertia, so is this to be used for changing your direction and instant stops?
You can consider the "/facetarget (default key: H)" a shortcut for people concerned with the ability to quickly cast after moving.

As has been pointed out, the use of /facetarget is meant to stop movement and establish a line of sight with your target.

With the current PvE environment I believe there isn’t much awareness of line of sight, but once PvP comes, this is going to become necessary. However, until PvP is introduced, you don’t really need to worry about it.

Even if the input for movement in FFXIV was removed from the client side, there would still be about a 1.3m movement due to inertia (up until version 1.20). In this case, even though you all would perceive that your character has stopped moving, you character is still moving due to inertia and the server is counting this as movement.

/facetarget will immediately stop your character’s movement and quickly change direction so you are facing your target without the interference of the movement inertia.
If we were to apply a realistic animation to this making your character turn slowly there would be no point for having this command, so the abruptness of the animation is intentional.

For those players who play with a gamepad while laying down (meaning, they do not have a keyboard nearby), in order to make it so casting is not constantly canceled due to inertia movement, we have made adjustments on the server side so that casting is not possible until the server determines that movement has stopped. Also, minute adjustments will be made to inertia movement distance following this. (It is possible to setup macros for /facetarget)

With this, we’ve adjusted the operability so that there is no need to re-select the target even if you cancel while casting a spell.

We’ve made adjustments so that you can play with a controller while lying down just fine without using /facetarget if you aren’t too concerned with the quickest spell casting, so we would like you all to try this out and let us know your feedback.

The feature where you can freely setup shortcut keys on the gamepad involves a core system change and as such this will be supported via gamepad mode in the UI for 2.0.

I seem to recall there being some kind of 3 second delay arising from the server for movement canceling and recasting lag.
The 3 seconds you mentioned is the delay of movement packet delivery. (The explanation is filled with jargon and tech talk so I won’t write anymore than this.)

In regards to the video, in order to make it easy to understand we left a gap between the casting cancelation and recasting after the cancelation.
It’s actually possible to immediately recast without waiting for the animation or casting cancelation animation to finish.

It’s kind of hard to convey this image with text, but… (it’s also somewhat technical)

Begin casting ⇒Character movement by client ⇒Movement detection by server⇒
Cancel casting ⇒ Casting input by client ⇒ Server determines casting and if possible commences casting…

The client side VFX (effects) and animations function asynchronously, but the server determines whether recasting is possible or not by the quickest client to server communication without waiting on the graphics.

However, as I mentioned previously in a separate thread, FFXIV is a server/client type of online game, so everything that you input is sent to the server and until the server processes the functions and delivers the result to the client, a physical time delay will occur depending on everyone’s network environment.
This is the same for FFXI, FFXIV, WoW, Rift, and SWTOR.

Compared to stand-alone games, this spec is something that is essential for online games, so please understand.
(For the tech saavy, I will go ahead and say that there is still some room for packet queue streamlining.)

With all this said, for those of you who have feel like there is quite a bit of wait time between casting cancelation and recasting, please do not worry. It will be possible to recast in less than a 1/3 of that time.

I use keyboard and mouse, but I guess I would have sub-target off. I often use sub-target lol.
For players who use mouse and keyboard, I recommend the below settings:

    ・Config > System “Action Bar Display” ⇒ON
・Config > Target “Use sub-target when executing an action” ⇒OFF
・Change key bind for /facetarget to the “F” key

Use WASD to move, target with your mouse, press “F” for /facetarget to stop immediately, and execute a spell using the 1-0 shortcut keys (or clicking on the action bar with the mouse).
These are the same controls as other general MMOs.

Also, this is preference, but you can toggle the /actionqueue on/off.

    Sorry for the lengthy post.
We also have another post from Yoshida coming later today as well, so be on the look out for it!

I'm just happy that there's now a way to cast without interrupting because of movement. That shit was annoying in XI.
