I don't have to wait on a group or additional members, I can go quest and gain exp/loot/coin etc. Also, in regards to leveling sub classes. This again is something that I didn't see as an issue after playing XI (my first MMO). However, I had a few friends try FFXI that had never played before and every one complained about having to level other classes/jobs. Their mindset was "If I want to be a THF, why do I have to level WAR/NIN/ETC?". While it didn't bother me at the time, it got me thinking that they had a very valid point. While at some point people level other classes anyway, aside from those people that latch onto one class/job and never stray, it's nice to not be forced into leveling classes that you don't want or care about.

That being said, I actually think Rift did a pretty damn good job with the class/tree system. Being able to be an archetype then mixing and matching between other classes (skills) makes it fun and interesting while not forcing me to level every single one.
You've pretty much summed up my point. I don't think anyone here on the forum was ever bitching about having to level several jobs to compliment the main job. Most of us are long time xi players. Why should you have to play something you don't want to play ever? I'm sorry "maybe you will really like playing another job" or "it only takes one entire day of grinding to get your level" are terrible defenses, and if this game wants to truly be 2.0 streamline it's system, become more user friendly, cater to a bigger player base I think they should reevaluate a couple things. I agree with the guy that suggested multiclassing as higher level content.

I don't see this aspect changing though. So the least they could do is change the leveling format and make it a quest/instance based along with grinding (for those that love to do that)

Personally, I dislike the tree system. Aside of graphics the fact that you can have all the jobs on one character is the biggest selling point of FF for me. It's just something that you expect playing FF, if you dont like it, game is not for you.
That being said. They need more content designed for those that are starting out and it's their 1st maybe 2nd class. Current dungeon design is aimed towards people with multiple classes and it's too difficult for people without gear/classes/experience. Game desperately needs some content that's just plain fun, easy to access, and easy to find party for. Something rewarding but not with top gear. However, party search system is another issue so yeah ....

Agreed about the game needs more content. It's doing well with a full grop content. But I'd like to see some plans for solo/lowman stuff as well so I don't need to find 7 others just to do something.

Has Yoshida said anything else about the idea to scale down dungeons/primal battles so you can 4 man them yet?

I'm finally finishing up my first class to 50. Now I'm told I really need to level archer to fortyfuckingtwo to get an ability that I really need. Really? 42? I don't even have the leves to finish up 50, so my options are wait a couple of weeks for leves to recharge or do another boring solo grind to get one fucking ability. Fun?

It's not 2004 any more. That bullshit isn't going to fly if they actually want a mainstream game.

Or you could make a party and get to 50 in an hour or two? Parties get a stupid amount of exp, even the bad ones get more than you'd think. Really no reason to solo to 50 unless you want to.

Also, you're playing a game where you need multiple classes to be optimal, that's just how it is, and it's most likely never going to change. Get used to it or just don't play.

What kind of mythical party are new players finding where they can accomplish that?

I was talking about your job that's almost 50.

As for your archer, can do it in ~3 days. Quicker if you have at least one friend in the game that will take a few hours to PL you.

Ah, I misunderstood then. I'm not worried about that at all, it'll get topped off with a few more leves and behests. The annoyance is having to level another class to 42 just for one ability. I guess I should be used to it from XI, but really, with how boring leveling is now, that kind of shit won't fly with new players.

You're right, it won't fly with the mainstream player who wants things cut and dry for them. But I think SE is aware of that. If they aren't then something's very wrong.

Chameleon's level really feels like a mistake or an oversight... the rest of the cross-class skills are obtainable below ~34 or so.

I find EXPing to be pretty fun. (>.> ) But I'm pretty lively in my parties, so perhaps it's not an experience common to everyone.

Meet new people, make new friends, die horribly to ten or twelve ants at once, get back up, do it again. Awesome.

XP parties might be fun if I ever got invited to one. I've had my 'seeking party' flag on since I was in my twenties and only got one invite to a party which broke up before it ever happened.

edit: Swap Chameleon and Swiftsong for Archer and getting those sub skills would be that much easier.

They desperately need a tutorial for new players on how to use party search system.

I thought about trying to make a party, but every time I searched there might be one guy seeking a party. To be honest though, I really had no idea where to go even if I could find people to group with.

Just shout in uldah, it really is the most effective way currently to make a party. Someone you invite will know where to go.

Niche game at best in my opinion, the best SE can hope for is finally convincing some XI players who have hated XIV to finally give it a try and will bring in some PS3 gamers when they finally get that out. I don't ever see this game being mainstream even with 2.0, by the time 2.0 is out who outside of some straggling XI fans who are upset over how XI is turning out or players who've waited patiently for PS3 release are going to care? There was a thread on MMO champion someone posted a few months back that talked about 2.0 and the majority of the replies to the thread was "Game will forever be terrible no matter what they do to it."

All I see SE doing is catering to former/current XI players, they will have to go above and beyond to get complete new players to choose XIV over the competition.

Times change, opinions change, and gamers are nothing if not fickle. Give it time. o.0

I'm sorry to hear that. ; ; XP shouts as low as 20 are fairly common on Rabanastre.

There also seems to be some craze going on lately with Lv.30 characters getting PL'd at Raptors. (>_> ) I find it a bit ridiculous, personally. I've PL'd most of my LS to 30 at Mun-Tuy on various classes, but it always feels kinda boring from a player perspective. (o.- ) I don't understand why people do it.

I believe the issue is that it helps if the monsters aggro the person doing the powerleveling. Aggro a bunch of monsters, hit instant self-buff to claim all, drop party, kill all, repeat. There are probably better targets, but that's probably why they're doing it. Using aggro to grab the monsters is far less of a hassle than having to claim each individual monster. Now that we're out of AOE debuffs, there isn't a good way to claim a bunch of moderate-level stuff up without one-shotting them (and sleepga doesn't count because they won't clump up for proper killing when you want to kill them if they're asleep).

Luckily for your Toto-Rak powerleveling, everything in Toto-Rak will aggro regardless of level (I think?).

Also, I'm sure this doesn't make anyone feel any better about themselves, but I play BLM just fine without chameleon. Don't forget that you can use Quelling Strike(ARC22) with spells.

On BLM you dont really need Chameleon. Freeze works just fine, but having both is pretty damn good.
