3 things. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

    4, if Garuda is included.

The concepts sound really neat, just as Ifrit, Moogles, and the Dungeons did. They sounded like they were going to be tough...they really played up the "hardcore," aspect of some of them. They all still fell way short though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm optimistic. I wouldn't be paying for it atm if I wasn't. I'd just rather they introduce some wtfAV content sooner than later.

I was never under the impression that the new raids would be hard. Ifrit is annoying because of the whole eruption thing, and limitations of the old client/server stuff. Moogle got a bit harder with the new CC changes, but none of it compares to the stuff we had in XI. Looking at the 2.0 docs and some of the dev comments i'm hoping that stuff is implemented in 2.0 with what I mentioned before. I know that they are planning on alliance content very soon too.

If XIV is just going to end up being endless raids like DH/CC/AV i'm going to quit because I fucking hate content like that. I'm holding out hoping that the new content will be more FFXI-like.

The normal mode is pretty easy to beat. I'm sure you can feel that by actually trying it. However, the hard mode is going to be very difficult.
The community team predicted the first clear would be after about 8 hours. I predicted 3 days and it turned out that on the 3rd day we started to see players who cleared Dzemael. So, I think it's just right. Ifrit is even harder, so make sure to prepare for it!
Ifrit was one of the most hyped up fights for example.

    Ifrit.

I'd rather their ideal time for the first clear be measured in weeks to months than hours btw, lol.

I agree completely. Make getting geared challenging because bosses are hard to beat... not through drop rates.

The funny thing about Ifrit is imagine how much simpler it will be in 2.0 with better servers and possibly no animation lock.

Not sure if you're joking (I think you are) but Nidhogg is mentioned several times during the DRG quests.

    Also, very much this:

I mean, if they're going to do it, do it right ffs. All this talk about extremely challenging content for hardcore players has been a load of poop so far. Fighting RNG =/= challenging.

    I hope Garuda's anti-ranged mechanic isn't just another ring-shaped AoE attack (Coincounter).

This is what I wonder. Yoshida said he wanted the best gear to come from instances. So I'm curious how HNMs are going to play out in terms of gear and whatnot. Elcura is pretty much correct with his statement about if it's just for shits and giggles, nobody will do it.

Also, I do agree this whole "items are rare due to drop" shit needs to be burred then encased in cement so it can never come back to haunt the game. Token system every damn thing and give our currency tab a use for something other than gil/seals when guild marks go the way of the dodo.

And on the subject of Gradua being friendly for melee... now that they finally admit this is an issue, wonder if they'll plan on adjusting the current fights to make them more melee friendly, or just keep them as is and expect everyone to arrow/manaburn them.

No one on Lodestone seems to comprehend this. Even worse, they claim that they enjoyed watching other LS's claim and kill HNMs over and over.

Nostalgia is one thing, but full-retard is another. The worst part of FFXI was sitting in the Aery for two weeks before windows moved to JP timezone. You'd waste about 3 hours waiting for a last or second to last window Fafnir that only dropped Zenith Pants and the Assjammer gil hands. All the while shitstorms start to brew outside the tree for who goes if the previous LS wipes. Roaming HNM aren't that much more fun, Wide Scan, Wide Scan, Wide Scan, Wide Scan, Dark Ixion. Out of everything you did for months, and months, and years, upon years Einherjar was the least painful. Show up, kill things for 30min, build up Key-Items to fight Odin. Grab tokens in the meantime for items. Go in with a somewhat balanced alliance so you could deal with Chamber mobs and Mega Boss. Nothing is perfect but it was the most bearable.

Token is the least painful because you actually work towards something. People will do it again instead of getting their item and peacing-out from Dynamis/HNM/etc. Maybe with Garuda you can only punch her in the face.

One guy on there brought up a good point "What is the difference between a HNM that spawns every 5 min and has 5% drop rate and HNM that spawns 24h and has 5% drop rate."
If its a fun fight with decent drop who gives a shit if it pops 5 min after killed. However, some of those retards are advocating the 24h - Tiamat spawn timers because they have some sort of idea in their brain that it will elevate them into the most special snowflake hall of fame.

I was joking about being mad at ffffffff, but my lancer is only 22. There's a difference between mentions in a job quest-line vs. a lodestone article everyone is "supposed" to read, I think the lodestone pretty much confirms his implementation. Also, wasn't there a mini FFXI-ish wyrm model being ridden in one of the streamed interviews? (Or I dreamt that, too lazy to check) I'm wondering why they're skipping straight to Nidhogg when I'm positive they'll implement ridill again, I guess our characters aren't "powerful" enough yet to wield it, or their engine/server can't handle a multi-attack weapon.

I'd be down for something resembling an instanced Dragon's Aery, but I don't know what the communities stance on stuff like that is currently. Would they be against it because you wouldn't have people from other groups/guilds standing right next you watching while you fight it? Or because you can't enter the area when you're on cooldown? You could obviously fix the second issue, have some stupid message like, "there seems to be no ominous presence beyond, proceed anyways?" so you could stand around in the empty Aery.

most of your post just confuses me but that was a drake, which is already in game (in several places). there are no wyrms or dragons proper, just drakes (which are basically ffxi wyrms w/o wings and bigger heads) at present. in the FFXIV opening cinematic thingy, we see Midgardsormr (which is another name for Jormungand) and his dragons flying around fighting the Garlaens. I think(?) the MNK quests confirm these are the dragons who fight Ishgard as well and that the Keeper of the Lake (Midgardsormr) is some sort of deity (eikon or like the son of one of the Twelve or some shit? the latter poses issues as the Twelve have all sorts of inbreeding and what-not so much so that some of the Twelve are children of the other)

i also don't understand why you think Nidhogg necessitates there be Fafnir before him or that this in anyway confirms Ridill or multi-attack weapons?

edit: bah i can't find that lovely thread on the lodestone that had all of Erik's ramblings on it about Mor Dhona

There's only a drawing of a proper dragon right at the start of this, rest is what Rocl said. There's no relation of Nid to Faf or Ridill outside of XI.

FFXI is not the only FF game with Nidhogg, just saying.
And I highly doubt the Aery is gonna return. FFXI's devs changed it for a reason and if you think they're going back to that you're likely wrong.
World spawns will be there simply for variety.... the best gear should ,and most likely will, stay in instances. Let's not promote botting and drama more than needed.
The NM system as it is now is actually good: low respawn times, decent gear. Spice it up and you can have your fun.
