If SE does a hunt system can they make a good sense of progression, will I be rewarded everytime I do one with some sort of points with the chance it can drop rare signature loot? Is it going to be accessible but at the same time the actual fight offers a challenge? If I complete all of the x amount hunts(even the worthless ones) do you get a very awesome item of your choice + title?

Since this is all stemming from exhilaration of competition they should instead put good gear in competitive dungeons where you have two teams effectively working against each other. (this lever releases this monster, this boss if defeated first by the team one side strengthens this mini/main boss, this teleporter will place you x distance from the opposing team to duke it out) Just suggestions, and in my opinion far more entertaining than sitting in one place for 3 hour window waiting for a spawn you MAY not get. World HNMs are only fine if they are either on a short respawn timer or relatively useless.
Competitive dungeon idea isn't too bad TBH, though not sure how it'd work in the long run. Maybe not for gear, but as a PVP idea I think it would be pretty good.

Remember FF12's hunts? Well shit... "instance" it in the same way that leves are instanced in that people can't see it roaming.
Might even be able to use actual leves to do it as some sorta limiter to the system.

    Get leve
Talk to NPC to BEGIN THE HUNT!!
    Go kill NM
Come back to NPC for reward (could create some sorta point system here)
As you do more hunts, you unlock harder NMs to fight.

Ta-dah... NMs "out in the field" like people want. Don't have to worry about claim being stolen, and the leve system has a purpose aside from crafting.
    It's called faction leves.

Honestly, they ought to utilize it more and/or change the system around a bit.

They're already making that for 2.0 as the non-Colosseum PVP, companys fight over some treasure in some ruins, iirc.

Yeah, that would be "Frontlines," the piece of concept art that showed the big overhead shot with an army readying an attack on a massive white fortress blocking access to a valley. It was intended to be where the three Grand Companies to fight over control of some ruins, and only those who controlled it could enter (think Campaign Ops).

Going to be a disaster unless they think this through. Going to suck being cock blocked from something because of something as silly as company of choice.

Though yeah, speaking of hunts... FF9 styled festival hunt PVP event would be an interesting concept.

This sounds alot more fun than the "competition" of XI's HNM system (and sounds like multiplayer Tetris...). I seriously get a rage face whenever someone mentions competition with XI's HNMs. It all boiled down to 1 sec of actual competition, claiming, which was made worthless by lag and bots. Course, we did have to contend with MPK wars in the early days (which I'll admit.. was pretty fun).

XI's HNM in a nutshell compared to a race. Everyone shows up at the starting line. Light goes green and whoever is the first person to hit the pedal, is the only one allowed to continue and finish the race. What we have now in XIV is mainly just a bunch of time trials.

If they ever release HNMs again in the open field then I hope their mechanic is alot different than what we know. Otherwise, just relegate them to a BCNM or Instance since one of the main reasons to even have them out in the open field is to add some competitive flair to the world. Not to mention with the current claim system we have now, they need to strike a balance where they aren't zergable but still doable for a party (or require an alliance).

Was hanging out with a friend who plays FFXIV and somehow we got into a conversation about the game and its direction. His exact words "You know why FFXIV is going to fail? Because they're taking feedback from guaranteed players. No one on the official forums is gonna quit come 2.0, no matter what they release."

    Couldn't help but agree.

That's not how faction leves actually work first of all, and second of all you don't actually get any sort of real reward until the last ones in the line which is fucktarded especially given the fact that the reward is ass now.

They took away the access to posting on that forum for anyone without a subscription and to be honest I think they may have done it because of how the White Knights on there attacked everyone else and derailed threads.
Anymore only threads that survive the onslaught on there are "Lets copy this from XI" like HNM thread ffffffffffffffffffffffff posted.
If you make a thread about something you dont like about 14 you'll have 20 residing trolls raid it till the moderator shuts it down.

I don't support those forums any more than I do these, but Cichy's point is pretty spot on.

I only posted that thread in hope that the Dev's might pay attention to it

And although fffffffffffff is more supportive towards other ideas of implementing HNMs most thread dwellers in there just want XI copy/paste.

Yep, totally agree, if you've paid since JAN 6 when it went pay while 14 has been in this flux state prior to 2.0 I find it hard to believe people are gonna stop regardless of what they release. SE should be spamming those people who have NOT been active trying to sell them on why they should play FF14 again. The success or fail of this game is going to be based on the ability to convince people who thought the game was horrible to give it another try or being able to sell the game to people who are looking to get into a MMO thats going to offer a different experience than say a World of Warcraft.

I feel like Yoshida is going to have a hard time moving this game forward because a lot of current players are former XI players trying to relive those glory days of 2003-2008 instead of trying to make a game that is going to move what has become a stagnated genre forward. I am in the crowd that played XI and did the HNM grindfest for years, I don't want FFXI to be rehashed, the game was ok for its time but its honestly time to move forward to something fresh.

Hence why I said they should change it around a bit, but other than the fact that you don't get a reward until the last one and you can't build points towards said rewards (although getting points for faction is sorta similar, but it's different), faction leves are pretty much word for word what you described.

    To recap:

Except no. Most of the ones that aren't the final one are like normal leves rather than 'go kill NM' except the enemies are a bit stronger.
With some tweaking it could be what I described but what it is... is NOT that though you said it is.

If it were like what I'm describing those 'final' ones would be the first ones you do, base level shit. The entire system would revolve around actual NM fights not regular ass leve mobs.

We'll know by the first week of 2.0, essentially. If the launch is underwhelming, stick a fork in, because the game is done at that point. It'll be a niche title for the XI crowd forever. You've already got websites lamenting the 2.0 change, thinking that SE's resources are better served by simply converting XIV into a single player title and focusing on a brand new MMO. In some ways, I can't disagree with them, especially with how XIV felt in alpha through launch.

Thats kind of the way I've felt, I'm not saying people don't enjoy this game in its current state, there are lots of happy people who enjoy this game as is and are hyped for 2.0. If the goal is to get as many players as possible to play this game post 2.0 then you can't be rehashing XI features or following the same ideas that might of been good 7 years ago. IMO this is SE's only golden chance with 14 because WoW is weakening, other MMO's are suffering from the overall stagnation of the genre, GW2 will have been out for awhile when 2.0 comes.

SE must hit a homerun, this is the ONLY chance they'll have, the stars will be aligned for 2.0, can they pull off something special or do we get a more pretty version of FFXI?

It sounds like you want a straight-up rehash of ZNM that's limited to your leve allowance instead of your drive to farm plates.
