Think you're off by a few years.
I don't see why everyone is so worried about this becoming XI 2.0. Pretty much everything points at this not being the case and Yoshida surely isn't listening to every idiot in the official forums.
Sure, he does listen to feedback about minor things and adjustments but the new content so far wasn't exactly suggested or made up by the forums.
We'll be getting info on 2.0 soon enough, E3 is around the corner after all.
We're worried because there's been no evidence to the contrary. The game isn't looking like XI, but the game isn't not looking like XI, either.
Cannot wait for E3. They're gonna need to blow minds with smooth combos going off and new graphics engine making everything look spiffy and run smoothly.
I just hope they don't decide to turn it into a "tech demo" and pull a bunch of fancy FMVs in an attempt to wow the crowd. We get it already, SE can make pretty FMVs. We've known for over a decade now.
Them showing cinematics would be a colossal mistake. It's gotta be gameplay + environment shots (before and after) followed by a cutscene for a possible future boss (Odin) at the ass end of the trailer. lol
Aye, and hopefully more than a bunch of vids showing a single player fighting a single monster. We need to see some dynamic party interaction to show how smooth the game can run under some moderate settings, not simply a flash-fest of fancy weapon skills on punching bags.
yes not another vid of a monk wsing a dodo
That doesn't make any sense. It either looks like XI or it doesn't and this game is nothing like FFXI in any of the eras and surely nothing like the old school XI.
Other than races and FF creatures/ references that is.
Guess we'll wait and see, I'm just confident that Yoshida can turn this upside down unlike someone else who's ruining XI right now.
It's probably just me but I find XIV a lot more enjoyable than XI despite the lack of content it still has.
I think when people say they don't want XI-2, they don't want to see:
1. Boring assed grinds
2. Piss poor drop rates on gear
3. Boring storylines that pretty much go from point A to point B 99% of the time
Sadly, XIV has all 3 of those ATM
in all honesty without even trolling, I just do not think this will work. More than anyone I want this game to succeed. I see potential, but I believe it will be wasted. It has little to do with rebranding xiv, and more to do with SE and their inability to compete in today's mmo arena. Yoshi has made some good changes, but the changes are good in xiv standards. 2.0 needs to be good, period.
Poor drop rates, flavorless instances, RNG enhancement system, grindy exp and boring static quests are more of the same. More of the same will be the end of this game. I think SE fails to realize that there are a healthy number of free to play, play to win cash shop grindy/rng eastern MMOs out there and very few people (in the west) will pay to play with this current setup. Like it or not the market is evolving. It's all about less commitment, and instant gratification. I personally didn't like when the entire genre of rpg became action oriented, but you get over it or you get left behind. It is something SE needs to understand. I believe if they would truly compromise on their methods, focus on telling an engaging story, innovate and expand off of what they do really well, this game could really take off.
And you've just described MMOs in general. That's surely not unique to FFXI or FFXIV.
And I don't agree with the storylines being boring. The issue in XIV is that the fields are boring and while a lot is told through quests you really don't see anything out there that can link the text to the world.
Even in the MNK quests there's a lot of interesting lore but nothing in the places you visit even hints at the battles that took place there. You simply know.
Wait... what storyline doesn't go from point A to point B? What are we talking about here?
