Not intended =/= not free. Its a free game, by all intents and purposes. The free part is what keeps many of those who still play around. I can't see how you'd call someone an idiot for realizing that.
Don't get so salty over it, and yes, Gulk, you're right. Apparently myself and thousands of others. My loss. :/
Apparently the music thing in Thanalan is indeed intended.

Hello! The events that have been occurring such as the music being absent from certain zones is intended and not a bug.
For more information about why this is occurring, please refer to the Lodestone site and the FFXIV Forums here. Perhaps this is portending to dark times to come...
Yeah the game is free, and you're right that it is keeping many people around. It is not free by all intents though. SE is continuing to spend $$ on development working towards making it subscription based. They are not developing the game with a F2P model as the end result.
I'll continue to have all sorts of fun hoping for the best, and if the game still sucks when they want to charge me for it, I'll quit.
PS - I think you're cute
Someone linked me to this ingame.

Can anyone make out what this might be?
A summary of what the company-related quests tell us.
I gotta say that they're using the little resources available pretty creatively to hype the next patch (posting an article on the lodestone, adjusting weather and music, using GM's to speak of dark omens, changing NPC text). It's not much, but it's effective. I also find it great that lore is the focus here. No matter how the patch may end up, I like what they did to hype it.
I feared that Yoshida would be the type that doesn't really give a damn about the rich lore they've created for the game but I'm glad to see I'm wrong. It's still one of the few things this game has going for it that makes it interesting, even in it's current form. I can't wait to see where they'll go with it once all the rehauling is over and they can truly start fleshing things out on that front.
People who expect a zone redesign are most likely going to be disappointed though, lol. I can see them doing it, but not yet.
Massive monsters (tremor ram style) would be awesome to see roaming around the place already though. Especially the Garlean mechas.Spoiler: show
Gotta admit, all this has me pretty hyped for the next patch. If it is indeed a disappointing patch I wont be surprised... but fuck I need me some epicness in this game already.
So its costing you something to play it, like other pay to play MMOs? I didn't know. My apologies for you. Anyway...
This is an interesting way to build hype from within a game. I've never heard of doomsaying GMs preaching before. Manual GMs spreading hype and cutting out music and making it rain everywhere are cost efficient, yet effective ways to drum up interest in any game with them, much less a MMO. I'm interested in what's coming around the corner.
I'm not going to put too much hope into whats going on, I mean this is still SE after all. I hope something cool happens and this isn't just hyping up companies. Who even knows what will happen, all I know is I want a damn letter from the producer soon.
when is the next patch?
after hearing about this 7th umbral thing im actually kinda hyped to come back and see whats going on...
Curious, the Buffs recieved from the GM are already available to CNJ or THM? Or do they kinda spoiler incoming new spells?
Also, I agree on this being one creative example of good ingame resources usage. I'm very interested in where this will lead. Even more, I'm wondering if this is something that's still part of the "Tanaka era" or something completely new that was designed with Yoshida
damn double
Yoshida said that he thinks "seasonal" events like this are important. Although I didn't really think this is what he meant. I doubt this 7th Umbral era is something he made up though, there has been quite a bit of foreshadowing in-game since the start. They may have sped up the introduction of the Empire though.
The next patch is probably coming sometime before mid-May. The egg-tide event ends on May 9th. I doubt the current events (weather, music, gm's) will last for longer than perhaps a week either.
I highly doubt the patch is coming in the first week of May though. It's been only a week since 1.17a, Golden Week just started and egg-tide lasts until the second week.
But there is always the letter to look forward to. Yoshida is stalling...
Well I saw Roysia an NPC @ Horizon spamming about the camps being defiled how we should spread the word that we shouldn't tolerate this, you get a dialogue box that says is something amiss or what can i do to help? then the GM showed up just shortly after the npc popped to and did his spam which was in japanese, everyone at the camp got buffed with quicken, max mp boost, hp regen boost that lasts about 10mins.
Npc spammed a little more then she depopped. Roysia was standing to the -> of Aistrach under the little tarp looking thing.
Roysia said: Hear ye! our aetheryte camps are under assault! let it be known that those who defile these public bastions shall be punished without mercy!
then the GM popped like 2-3mins after and did his thing, he checked as a level 1 conj.
Guess the two are connected.
I wonder what their Arcanist staff looks like when you check the GMs...
So, where is everyone getting the idea he is a Arcanist, just because of the buffs he is tossing and the gear? Don't get me wrong, it could be an Arcanist, or just some "Event Type" buffs or something and a sneak peak at some mage gear to come. Who knows. I thought at first he was checking as an Arcanist, and that is why everyone came up with that.
