The fortress in the lower right is for PVP, the other looks like Ishgard.

As I said above I would be EXTREMELY shocked if they show anything big regarding FFXIV until TGS. I would bet thats probably where the 2.0 trailer will happen, that gives around 3-4 months to really drive the hype machine into full gear. I think in a lot of ways its pretty cool they want to make sure everything is in tip top shape before showing anything, they have one chance to get this right.

The entire name of the brand is riding on 2.0, if it is a smash hit, it will restore the faith into the brand. Should 2.0 fail, the brand imo is done at least outside of Japan for sure and severely damaged inside of Japan. I have a friend who teaches english in Osaka, he brings up Final Fantasy a lot in his classes and most gamers who end up in his classes don't have many good things to say about Square Enix these days.

They've said multiple times already that there'll be a flood of info in August. TGS is way too late to show stuff because by then Alpha will be done.
In August we have Gamescom and the 25th anniversary event.

What a stupid thing to say. The majority of Final Fantasy fans don't even give a damn about the online games and wish they would stop taking up 'numbers' all together. You think they give a shit if 14 redeems itself, or continues to be terrible? Versus/15 have more riding on them because of 13, for sure. XIV only matters to people who play XIV, or maybe XI.

And for the record, 2.0 could be the best MMO ever made and it still wouldn't erase the launch fiasco in most peoples minds. People here, like myself, are fanboys. And that's the only reason we're still paying (cautious) attention.

Hate to admit it but he's right. FF fanboys who don't play MMOs couldn't give a shit about XI or XIV except to request that they stop taking up named spots. XIII did more to damage/help the brand overall than XI or XIV ever could have.

I don't even know if SE themselves care more about their online games, despite XI being the most profitable FF in their coffers (due to constant income rolling in). I'm sure they care enough about them to want to continue to make money off of them, but I'm not sure sure they'd ever prioritize them over solo titles. Box sales still speak towards the success of a game.

I have a bunch of friends who barely play anything outside of Call of Duty & Final Fantasy (no really) & I agree most people don't give a shit about the MMO releases... the people who only play the regular releases of the series greatly outnumber the people who play or care about the MMOs

As a company SE needs XI and XIV to bring in the $ - especially with the amount of capital they must have put into XIV recently. I don't think the brand image is as much of a concern to the shareholders as the effect on immediate and min-term cash-flow the success/failure of 2.0 will have.

As for those screens; if you look at the roadmap and the upcoming alpha/beta dates, if they've had to use Photoshop for the UI the release is 100% doomed. There is no way it could possibly be that incomplete and have the upcoming schedule it does.

Personally I think they're legit but we'll find out soon enough. I think Yoshi is, if nothing else, a good project manager and I genuinely think they're on-track. No guarantee that track is any good though...

You know you can design UI in photoshop (or any program like it), right? So, as far as we can see, they're not doing anything wrong.

This pervasive thought of mind has been the doom of so many MMOs before 1.0. This single statement terrifies me more than anything when I hear about an upcoming MMO. The less shareholders publically have to do with a game, the better. The more they're involved, the more a game turns into a rush-job to recoup as much shareholder investment as possible, and that always leads to a rushed, broken game that flops right out of the gate.

2.0 absolutely needs to adopt a "when its done!" mentality as much as possible in regards to the release of the game. They've already released a broken game once; hold this shit until its well-tested and well-received first.

Can't help but think of Blizzard now, they used to be a company that was about "when its done". They're all about the shareholders now, they've gone from a company where true gamers who were passionate about making games to selling out. Crapaclysm sucked, D3 is in bad shape, I would go as far to say 2nd worst release behind FFXIV(although not nearly as bad as FFXIV). D3, biggest betrayal on a loyal fanbase since Ultima IX.

The thing I like what SE is doing is they know shits on the line here, sure they were arrogant to think the original state of FFXIV was satisfactory enough to release. Two years later entire reputations are at stake, they've admitted the fault, they came out and said the game sucks as politely as you're ever going to see it said from a producer/director.

I have to applaud SE here because everyone is pressuring them to show their 2.0 hand and its just not ready yet. Some folks need to understand what SE is doing is unprecedented, never before has a rework of this magnitude occurred in a game.

Yay for nothing new in this video.

Cait Sith and Chupon/Typhoon have been in the 2.0 docs on the lodestone site for a while now.

eh, no one's pressuring SE, but SE. It's their game, and it's their deadline. If they hope for this thing to launch on time, and succeed they are going to have to show their 2.0 hand relatively soon. I guess we'll see if this "flood" of information happens next month. Last time they promised a flood they released 4 pics on lodestone lol. Based on the lingo from the community reps the teaser site will be updated over the course summer. So for now i'll assume more of the same until I see different.

K, sorry, but this has bugged me for a while. Why do people say this? I really have no idea. They rebuilt the grind, making it more tolerable, and they at least made an attempt to fix all of their balance problems. What was so wrong about Cata that people actually hate it?

That's not what he meant. More like, in the current version you have to level your character first to be able to do any quests and story missions, while in 2.0 he wants quests and missions to provide so much exp they will be the main route of progression.
