I suppose Final Heaven is Monk's limit then. It better look like VII/VIII's then lol
And I'm going to guess that Summoner is limit to 4 primals because the others won't be added right away? Either that or they just expand the job as time goes by, I really don't see them adding only 4 and leaving the others out.
Also considering they can't use Carbuncle seems to suggest either a change in class/job mechanics or simply how ACN/SMN are going to work.
Yeah, I doubt it'll stay 4. It's probably for the same reason Ifrit and Garuda are the only confirmed primals; they're the only ones out already. That also means we'll be getting at least 2 more primal fights by release.
Concept art is out for Fenrir, Titan, Cait Sith and Leviathan. Of those, Titan has a non-animated in-game model already.
Fenrir and Cait Sith are not confirmed as primals though. And let's not forget Moogle is also out so that could be one of the starting 4.
who is the feather chick in the concept art? the one with the golden feathers.
Final Heaven better not suck again.
I wonder if that means WHM could get Great Gospel as Limit Break lol. Summoner should totally get Bahamut/Megaflare though <_<
If WHM gets Great Gospel, then SMN must get Starlet/Lakshmi. >_>; Also, SMN must use a paintbrush to summon. Paint a pretty picture in that book.
Summon either needs this

or this

As their limit break.
So... something like:
Paladin: Omnislash/Lionheart/Knights of the Round?
Warrior: Catastrophe/Lunatic High?
Dragoon: Highwind/Pyroclasm/Drakesbane?
Monk: Final Heaven
Bard: Requiem/Seraph Song?
White Mage: Great Gospel/Angel Wing/Resplendence?
Black Mage: Meteor
Summoner: Giga Flare/Astral Flow/Fat Chocobo?
Hmm, this actually brings up an interesting question.
If jobs eventually become the spec system of FFXIV, what happens with Limit Breaks? Will they add more for each one or will there be one for each set? Also, will it strictly be damage or did they just show BLM's meteor cuz it was something they could put together for the trailer?
I mentioned Bahamut/Megaflare because like Meteor it's extremely iconic for Summoner as well as usually the most powerful attack in classic FF games.
Great Gospel is also the most powerful healing limit I could think of. Yoshi P mentioned the limits being class/job specific and having 3 levels iirc so these should obviously be level 3s like Meteor is.
I have a feeling anything extremely powerful or iconic is going to get assigned to an NPC. You can't give what is supposed to be the very best to players, because our items have to get stronger for progress/expansion. This is where XI's relics really fell flat and limited the game ultimately.
Hildebrand will discover the Genji armor but we'll never get it.
2013 can't come fast enough.
i think its a very thin line to balance on. People want to see these weapons in the game not just for the sake of nostalgia but because they want to wield it. If it's powerful in older games, people would be kinda sad if it weren't in XI/XIV and so on.
I don't understand where you're coming from with your FFXI example because when they first introduced relics/mythics at 75, they were among the best damage weapons flat out, with only a few of them seeing viable alternatives depending on the specific setup of your job. and that was their way of preserving the perceived power of said weapons. you could say they painted themselves into a wall by setting an upper limit, but this was also their way of determining the possible variance that weapons at lv75 would take.
but when the level cap raises came about, they made sure to still maintain this power by allowing for the legendary weapons to be upgraded, and effectively maintain their status as ultimate weapons. It's true that all the other non-legendary weapons from the 75 cap would become redundant tho.
...
what disturbs me is that if relic weapons in FFXIV are meant to be top tier weapons, they're going to need to be upgradable along the way in a similar fashion.. because 50 is just the initial level cap and they're going to have a long way to go. the problem there is that the earlier you introduce an 'ultimate weapon', the more you are sending the message that other weapons are pointless since you should just invest in the ultimate one anyway
