I don't like the idea. There are too many stats in play for a single one to effectively tell you whether or not a given player knows what they are doing or not, although this affects certain jobs more than others. What I'd like to see is the ability to do some sort of remote check that would bring up the player's mannequins and stat allocations rather than having to hunt them down and do it manually, or worse have someone get into your party for whatever and find that they have triple melded chocobo down pants.
Honestly shouldnt be to hard, tbh, each job has two primary stats, then you could factor in additional stats based on job:
Let's do BLM and PLD
BLM:
INT: 25/25 possible points
PIE: 25/25 possible points
MND: 15/15 possible points
HP: 10/10, MP:10/10
Macc: 25/25, Matk:25/25
BLM specific checks: -Emnity:10/10, elemental potency: 10/10, Mcrit rate:10/10, Mcrit Bonus dmg:10/10
175 total points possible. As the game stands you could put Garuda at 150 or 160.
You could be low on int, and Macc but make up the points in other area's. /shrug.
That same scale could be used for moogle fight but Lower the number to around 120-130.
Say a stat score of 400 int, would net you 25 out of 25. -40 Emnity could hit 10/10 in that category.
PLD:
STR: 25/25
MND:25/25
VIT: 15/15
DEX: 5/5
Acc: 20/20, atk: 15/15
HP: 15/15, MP:10/10
PLD Specifics: +Emnity 25/25, block rate: 10/10, defense: 10/10,
Again 175 cap, something's carry more weight than other things 160 for a safe Garuda run, gear wise.
330 STR cap, 330 MND cap : would get you 50/50 points,
Again you get the idea, being able to run pickup garudas would be great but by this little scale I just came up with off the top of the head, 90% of Balmung is sitting below 110 gear score.
Someone should drop this bomb in the OF, at least they'll stop talking about stupid wyvern pets.
I think someone already did.
Gear-Score-in-my-ARR
Two post into that OF thread and someone has already drop the "elitists" bomb lol
Primary stats aren't the best thing to bump for each job though, so you'd already be taking a hit in your gear points for not working on that appropriately.
Was a good watch. Looking forward to the live letter.
oh god, gear score is TERRIBLE, it was terrible in WoW, lol. I remember people wanting like 6k GS for a naxx clear at the end of wrath which was a joke.
Oh I'm sorry did you have a different idea for how to keep shitty people out of your content finder groups?
Yeah one of my coworkers was talking about doing a content finder dungeon with a Paladin who met the gear score requirement, only to find out halfway through the dungeon his gear was specced for damage and healing, and he only equipped it to match the GS requirements. The dungeon wiped the floor with him and they did not clear.
That is the problem. Systems as such get deconstructed and abused. They will in NO WAY accurately gauge a player's usefulness in any content.
It will, however, be interesting to see how important SE finds each stat to be.
but yeah, I'm inclined to agree that this is a bad idea.
I don't really see what the problem with gear score is. Its not really there to judge who is good and who is a noob...
For what it's worth I'm still hoping it is a totally different system S-E just stole the name for D;
Extremely doubtful. SE seems to be going full-bore into the "grab it from everyone else because goddammit we can't do it ourselves!" role.
Well it needs to be different from WoW though. In FFXIV you can play different classes so how is this going to help if it can only gauge one class out of all the ones you have? We'll probably get some answers next week.
