What MMORPG didn't borrow heavily from EQ? That's like complaining about plagiarism of Dune 2 or Street Fighter II or Quake.

I imagine that one can make excuses for Tanaka all day long, and pity the powerless executive that was strapped to the rocket against his will. Personally, based on the implementation and execution of the complete-waste-of-time XIV betas (of which there were two separate phases, neither of which accomplished anything of note), I say Tanaka deserves the criticism he has received.

If Tanaka couldn't even prevent a pointless beta in which he knew that any negative feedback would be impossible to address, then he was truly a useless figurehead and should be scorned, if only for his willingness to accept credit for a project he had no guiding influence on. (And who's to say that he didn't have the same role for XI?)

Hello everyone!

Don't worry! In A Realm Reborn you will still be able to obtain primal weapons, so if you haven't gotten one just yet, there will be opportunities in the future.

With that said, the development team is not thinking to change the drop rates to 100% since they will still be available in A Realm Reborn.

My understanding is that we will have to pick our servers at the start of 2.0, and some will be locked to only have new players. They have not made a final decision.

When service begins for A Realm Reborn we'll be creating new worlds for new players. For a certain amount of time, existing users will be unable to move. (This is the information we received, but we'll be trying to get clarification on this later today)

Before we finalize details for current players wishing to transfer, we'll need to consider how we'd want to handle returning players. We'll be looking at the options with regard to the Beta Test conditions.

Some of you have been asking about the bullet point we mentioned during the FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary Event Special Talk Session about “improving the amount of freedom of world transfers” -- this meant that we will be setting up a world transfer service similar to FFXI.

Sorry, to clarify, our post is specifically answering a question about users wanting to change after they've chosen new servers. We're not saying existing players will remain on current servers until a time that is designated for people to move.

I have a bit of follow up information in regards to world selection when A Realm Reborn begins.

For those of you that have friends that are not currently playing and you would like them to play with you, rest easy knowing that new players will be able to select the existing worlds instead of the newly created worlds. However, in the case that there is a large amount of people who come back to the game and the world reaches it population cap, the regular rules will apply and there is a possibility that we will suspend new character creation on these worlds.

Also, for current players, it will be possible to create a new character on the new worlds. However, existing players will not be able to move to these new worlds for a certain period of time.

Also:

I got a very different understanding and the latest info makes me think the old servers are sticking around and everyone is going to be automatically loaded on to them, BUT like FFXI and FFXIV server merge you will be given the option upon logging in to apply for a server transfer but at the start it will only be between existing worlds if your character is from 1.0. New characters are free to move between old and new.

You two said basically the same thing, so I dunno how you understand it differently. The important points are:
- new servers: no transfer, can only create new characters on these
- old servers: since they will become regional, S-E will have to let us pick a server at the start of ARR, like manako says. The problem that might arise is that the old servers might become full, and then you won't be able to transfer to them right away.

They haven't speculated a time when 2.0 is released right?

Not that I want to post it in the other thread and all, but when will be the best time to buy it since the roadmap indicates 2.0 is soon?

Prob won't be live until March/April at the very earliest.

That's if beta goes smooth.

Main difference is I said you would automatically be assigned your old server and only "if" you applied for transfer would you be moved off it, just like it was during server merges.

They seem to avoid any questions about zones other than Gridania, or anything in depth about anything at all. I'm pretty sure it's "fly by the seat of your pants" time at SE right now.

True, but I think that's details that are not set in yet.

Anyway, from German forums:

Good afternoon,

I have new information for you about changing Grand Companies. It will be possible for you to change your Grand Company. Naturally this has a few restrictions. For example, you will only be able to equip gear from your current Company.

In addition, your rank from your previous company will not be carried over, and instead you will begin from the lowest rank. Your old rank will be saved though, so it doesn't get lost.

Specifcs can still change, but this is the current plan.

Wait what? I read that the PS3 version of 2.0 will be in beta test by the end of this year. But you're saying the PC version of 2.0 won't be live until next year?

Both betas are supposed to be quite close time-wise actually, but no one knows how long will they last. Plus Alpha was moved from Sept/OCt to Nov, so...

@TacoTaru I dunno, I don't remember the specific part about GC equipment, but maybe it was, that stuff gets translated really late sometimes. (and are copies too, some guy on the OF translated the whole french QA from the Live Letter when you had that stuff posted by S-E itself, lol)
