    - apologizing for the shitty final event

    - seems 1.0 won't be getting back up (damn, this man is wise)

Regarding the current version FFXIV's operation but the final save was performed after the announcement and right now all the staff is already working on the ARR development. Of course I understand the comments "Isn't it OK to just let the current version operate if not switching to ARR right away?"

However as I mentioned before there are couple thousand character data's which include those players who stopped playing already that needs to be transferred over to AR. To convert this data into ARR FFXIV, even if we let the server run for 24 hours straight physically it will take about a month after reviewing the estimates.

Therefore we needed to perform the final save somewhere and it's also important to get all the staff into teh ARR development to meet the ARR schedule so with these two along with early announcment we set 11/11 as the date.

As a MMO gamer myself I undesrtand the pain to not have a place where you can join together with friends you have been together with for 2 years, I really think I understand that feeling. So we will try to increase the amount of participants for alpha test within this year and by increasing the participants in beta test we will try to make it as much as possible to shorten the time you get back to the world of FFXIV.

Also I understand the comments "Didn't need the update but wanted you to wait till last minute on the save" but for a person in charge of MMO operation I believe it's not right to leave a world without any updates so hope you can understand that.
    - lore stuff, Reinheart didn't really translate this well:

There were few hints and much more detailed ones but from in-game:
(Sorry if NA lore name is different)
Dalamud was launched by ancient arag empire and is man made
Each tribe has individual gods (beastmen having primals, human race having the twelve)
Van Darnus carries blood from ancient arag empire.
Theologian from Ishgard has been abducted by the empire.
I wont allow any more gods to be called upon (Garuda's script)
Power of the crystal is sent to Dalamud

If I say too much will make ARR boring so just few more pointers:

Dragon race also falls under what the Eorzean calls as beastmen tribes, so.....
Niddhogg isn't a god but is a dragon in highest place of the dragon race, also Midgarsom is special but isn't a god.
For humans there are many kings depending on the era right? That's about it on what I can say for now.

The 1.0 servers are coming back up; here's another (perhaps newer since your post) quote from Reinheart:
Right now we are planning to restart sometime next week. We need to roll back to updates dont post 11/1 so please wait just a bit more. (Regarding the relics from bed, we're planning to keep that one)

Oh well. Anyway, my comment was directed more at the stuff he said in the post, not the servers not going up itself.

Official translations from Camate of Yoshi's comments summed up:
    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...128#post894128

    - an apology for the servers being shitty during the end event.

    - addressing the people who want to keep playing 1.0 with updates with progress saved, apologizing that they need to work on ARR only.

    - tidbits of lore mentioned above.

    - mention of their plans for an in-game linkshell event calendar/planner, but won't be ready for launch.

    - a mention that they decided on Bahamut back in January 2011.

    - plans for re-opening 1.0 servers so players have somewhere to hang out until Alpha/Betas begin.

    - he thinks it's stupid and pointless to have separate servers for PS3 players.

To be fair, it is dumb to have separate servers for console / pc, I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it is that I cant play some game online that is the exact same fucking game with people who play on console, just because they don't have a powerful enough rig to handle the games properly :/.

I completely agree. What could possibly be the point to segregating people based on what kind of machine they are using to play the game? He pretty much says that and I love that he opens up with "this is something I don't understand." I hope he sticks to that decision.

It generally isn't about the power of the rig, it is generally restricted due to rights/licensing and often because of control schemes. Putting someone using a controller on a console against a KB+M user on a PC in a FPS is completely lopsided, in an MMO it is less about the controller and so they can let everyone play together.

Expanding on on this, I've always found frustrating to be unable to play with everyone who plays the game because of being separated by servers. Ten years ago I could understand because of technology limitations, but nowadays you can form parties cross-server in Warcraft (this goes beyond the old content finder from 2010) and you can do pretty much all content cross-server except for the latest raid tier (including open world quests if I'm not mistaken). GW2's systems are even more ridiculous, with guilds, chat, in-game mail, and all content working both cross-server and cross-region.

Long shot, but I really hope Square-Enix has looked into these systems and doesn't simply add a content finder that's already outdated. The OF might be dumb for bitching about server segregation, but if SE was with the times, there would be no community segregation even with regional servers.

I'm actually glad the servers are coming back up. One thing I forgot to do before the servers went down was take lots of screenshots. I can do that now but I won't be playing the game.

Surely if you're serious about FPS games you'll have a mouse and keyboard for your PS3 too, which together cost less than an additional PS3 controller. It's not like you have to use special ones from Sony like in the PS1/2 days, any PC keyboard/mouse should work.

Licensing is an issue however and why this game isn't being released on the XBox 360. I really wish Sony and Microsoft could come to some form of agreement to let players on both consoles play together in games that are released on both. The online component of games would last longer as you'd have more players.

Just to play a little bit 'o devil's advocate, I know that on console versions of Mass Effect 3 aiming was programmed differently... it was "assisted" a pretty good amount to account for a controller not being as responsive as a mouse and keyboard. It was not possible to use a controller on the PC, or a mouse/keyboard on a console. I'm trying to remember if the AI had slightly different programming as well, but I can't remember for sure.

I disagree considering the vast differences in the power of today's rig compared to the grossly inferior consoles, but I agree in the sense that most developers don't have nearly as wide of a graphical and performance difference between console and PC versions of the same title to justify the split.

You take a vanilla version of Skyrm for the PS3 or PC and meh, they're not that different. Now, you take a fully modded version of Skyrm, with full HD versions of everything, forced tessilation, enhanced towns, trees, grass, water, depth of vision, visual reskins, with enhanced AI, additional weapon and armor skins, additional animals and monster types, additional quests and areas added, multiple followers enabled, ect., and compare it to the PS3 version and suddenly you have two versions of the same game that simply cannot co-exist. If a company actually launched the "modified" version as a HQ product while keeping the original product as a "base model" aimed at consoles or low-end PCs, somewhat resembling car companies having multiple models of the same car (ranging from base models around $20k all the way up to $60-100k super souped up models), then I'd be all for a split between the two.

Just as XI's PC and console versions varied little (especially as the former was nothing but a console rip), so too will XIV's not have the amount of extra content and enhanced visuals and performance to warrant a server split. As a guy who constantly keeps his shit upgraded, though, I certainly wouldn't mind a true split if it meant that I was getting a better product for my efforts without having to seek out mods myself.

It was being discussed because it was brought up by one of Yoshi-P's posts.

Ya, I just think he was talking about how bad an idea it would be to separate servers for PS3 players because of presived lower in quality game like FFXI (PS2 Limitations!!!).

ps3 is lower quality though, and will undoubtedly hold the game back at some point.

By then they'll be working on the next online FF game or they'll just drop support altogether.
FFXIV will never be FFXI simply because the PS3 is not the PS2.... the only reason FFXI is still being supported is that there are a lot of people playing on that platform (in Japan). PS2 support is officially dead in the US.
The PS3 is not even close to the success of its predecessor and well... it all depends on how successful this game will be in the West. FFXI was also exclusive on PS2 for a long time in Japan where most of the PS2 players are while XIV has been exclusive on PC for 2 years now. Entirely different situation.

I'm not too sure that the PS3 will have as much of an effect on XIV as the PS2 did XI. Considering the fact that SE seems to be focusing on the PC version first I'm not too worried about potential "ps3 limitations".

Sorry if I missed this somewhere else, but haven't paid any attention to this game since last year. Was arcanist playable yet, or brand new in 2.0?
