FFXI and FFXIV have some creepy ass people playing it. The LS I was in on XIV had someone pretending to be a chick emoting grabbing peoples asses everytime they said Hi on LS. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 45 year old dude living in his moms basement, addicted to Loli's, on an FBI watch list somewhere.
Might be just personal experience, but aside from one person and Cesil (Babydoll Rapture), all of the people I met in game claiming to be women actually were women. (Regarding 14)
My beef with the XI/XIV community is the sense of, "Well, this community is better than everyone else. Anything we do is best, anything they do is the worst."
Sure, there's a higher maturity level with the XI/XIV communities, but there's also a huge aura of "holier than thou" and crap like that. That being said, I'd rather do endgame stuff with the XI/XIV community as there's a greater sense of belonging and loyalty to your LS.
The difference between the FF crowd and WoW crowd in a guild enviroment. In FFXI/FFXIV people are generally subtle about being a lootwhore. In WoW, that shit is blatant from day one, you can join a new guild and pick out all the lootwhores before you attend the first raid.
It's just the type of game. In FFXI everything required co-operation, and a bad rep stuck as switching to a new character wasn't easy. So most of the major douches got weeded out or were widely known. I think it'll take a year or two till after ARR to decide what the XIV community is like.
And iirc FFXI had the most balanced ratio of female/male players out of all the major MMOs? Which I think is partly to do with how female characters were so equal, when in many MMOs they're pretty much just eye candy for the basement dwellers. I'm not sure how XIV will be on this, I think this OF post has some merit.
I wish I could slap you for linking that silly thread.
lol
Same experience here, most if not all the people claiming to be women were actually female. Though I am shocked at the amount of fugly contained within the FF mmo community. Shit's unprecedented.
/shrug. I only know two women who play FFXIV (and are former XI players), but both sighed at the moth-eaten coatee and when one of the first questions in the recent live letter was about boob giggle. So I think she has a point that whole sexy focus is alienating some women.
tl;dr it's sexist to enjoy nice titties.
sexist? probs. likely to change? nah.
they probably decided on horny males over women in their marketing department or some shit a while back
Which would surprise some people, as I believe FF is thought to be more popular among young girls and gays D;
no video game except cooking mama and wii sports is gonna draw people away from the neckbeard & horny male demographic obvi
After some LS drama back around Christmas '08, I quit XI for a while. Details aren't important, I've got a story to tell. >.>
My brother said "Hey! Let's try Lineage II, since we never got around to trying it because of XI." Fair enough, so we did. Got a guild invite early on after we somehow ended up across the world map in a spot filled with lv.50ish mobs, we being lv.15 or so, as I recall. Was a fun walk back, and by fun, I mean abject terror.
Joined guild, they seemed normal at first, but soon we realized that they were the basement dwellers we'd heard about. (o.O ) The infamous "nerds". Was pretty bad. We were coaxed into hopping onto Ventrilo, my brother said "Heck no, you do it" so I did. Hopped on, greeted folks, yada yada yada.
One of the officers pops on, and tells everyone "Alright folks, we've got another person joining vent shortly... she's a bit nervous so-"
And like that, the Vent exploded.
"ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME?"
"A WOMAN? HERE? FOR REAL?!"
"YOU BETTER NOT BE SHITTING ME DUDE" et cetera, et cetera... a dozen young men all at once voicing their disbelief. (>.> ) It was a veritable whirlwind of, hell I don't even have a word to describe what it was. It was not normal.
Moral of the story: I've met plenty of women online, nice, pretty, and with biting wit. (o.O ) Like Romulans, they stay cloaked constantly to avoid the crazies.
Oh, and I'm sexist apparently cause I like cute models for online characters. I denounce myself.
what is the point of your story
Well he said women on the internet were nice, pretty, and full of wit.
I guess the point would be that he doesn't know jack shit about women.
It seems the point was that nerds exist on the internet... why that matters, we'll never know.
You have my pity. XD
It was an amusing memory that I wanted to post, was all. o.ô There are plenty of women on the internet. Not all of them are shut-ins, any more than a certain poster quoted above is guaranteed to be a shut-in. It's not very polite to make assumptions like that.
EDIT: Actually, that brings up another memory of what a certain member of that guild said on Christmas Eve with regards to women. XD Dude was complaining that his girlfriend was bugging him to come have christmas dinner with her and her family, and the guy just wanted to raid.
"I already got her a white gold locket for Christmas, what the **** else does she want?"
Being a fool, I responded "Well, women want attention and for you to spend time with them, not just trinkets."
He being a greater fool, he replied "You've got a lot to learn about women."
I quit the group after that, ran out of pity and the laughs were no longer laughs, but sighs of disbelief.
Why does there always have to be a difference between gamers and female gamers? Can't people just play a fucking MMO without shouting that they're a boy/girl?
I seriously can't stand women who go out of their way to point out that they're a girl online CONSTANTLY.
