seriously what is the point of these anecdotes?
yes women exist.
yes women play video games.
i think everyone knows that. there's creepy guys who hit on girls in games and irl, there's creepy girls who stalk guys irl and in games, and there's creepy men who hit on men irl and in games and even women blah blah blah i'm including the homos if you haven't guessed
also do you have some kind of social disorder?* not being a mean, but the way you post makes me think so
like what the hell? you met a women in a video game, you championed a woman you've never met in a video game. gj. you can pick your white knight armour up at Demo Depot. I don't always post nonsense, but when I do at least it's obvious nonsense so people can skip it! what does your story have to do with certain types of gear being sexist and apparently driving women away? that it's bad or something? that you're different? wtf man
*not a personal attack, also is social disorder a thing?
i am not advocating a "return to topic" but there should be a good lore post from the loc team either today or tomorrow
The other way around is a breaker of guilds and why most women should be avoided.
There are two types of women who play video games, those who are fun, nice to be around, and helpful - they don't care much about getting the best gear or whatnot but treat the game as a social setting. Not to say they have to be bad either.
Then there are those who do care, and they will play the long game with their manipulation and bullshit where at the end of the nuclear holocaust that ensues you're left wondering what happened to your guild because it is certainly empty. Typically martyrs.
Prove me wrong misogynists.
That's pretty much spot-on from my experiences haha
wait, why would a misogynist disagree with your second example?
rokal pls
haha, so many guild destroying women, compared to normal girls... or should I say just stand out way more...
on the random subject of sexy gear ingame, I wonder if anyone ever stopped to think... "this game is made by japanese and they have different moral views of gaming compared to americans". I mean, come on its the country that invented hentai, and a large amount of "weird shit porn", your expecting something normal...? O_o
Also boob physics is a must for a japanese game, even ffxi had it (even though it wasn't much...)
Problem is that an MMO is a game + a social network. Kinda like farmville really. A lot of people use social networks to find sex, bf/gf or whatever. The average game is also going to be a majority of male players. So what we have is a social network filled with a bunch of dudes. I don't see that changing any time soon.
Are malevolent females more effective at demolishing LSes, or is the demolition of a linkshell through garden-variety male lootwhore douchebaggery so unremarkable that we don't really think of it as an event?
well considering FF14s loot distributation was "open that chest everybody gets to open their own chest what you get is what you get.... and you will like it (fuck you mogwand)"
wasn't many chances to Loot whore outside beast-man boss drops (back when i played). But i had a decent LS till shit hit the fan (because of a girl ... fucking go figure).
If a guy turns out to fuck the linkshell, no one cares and people write him off. Fuck that dude, etc. This is different in and of itself. There are also times when a group within (of males) may decide to split off because they feel they are better, but this is usually in more social linkshells where they are afflicted by pseudo-elite mindsets. Obviously, they probably suck but are better than people who prefer to craft all day.
The malevolent women will spend a lot of time cultivating relationships within the linkshell so that when the time comes and the proverbial straw is cast, it shatters the group into different sections. They typically will use as many people as possible in various ways to get what they want and will gossip/poison the thoughts of members against one another; for example, if a particular group in the shell is more vocal for their distrust (read: logical people) then these people will be portrayed as assholes or misogynists and the martyr card will be in full effect. They become so inflated that the screenshots of their downfall are pretty awesome too.
My experience with nice women in game is far less rounded than with negative ones, but I don't really participate in social shells or events of that nature. I do know a few, and they are a pleasure to be around. (LP shoutout) I run into the negative type far more often due to the portions of MMO's that actually interest me and I feel bad every time I see it. Luckily, it happens around me rather than to me because I am such a woman hater I call that shit out within minutes of interacting with someone.
Women that play MMO's are awesome, I love how creepers are generally exposed shortly after she talks on vent the first time.
There was a nice man on Valefor named Churchill... He helped me with my subjob quest back in '04.
I had a couple really good female friends in XI, but they were all 35+. The younger girls that I knew in-game (including my ex-wife) were mostly what Churchill is describing. Fair point of disclosure, I am 32...so probably more inclined to get along with people around my age...but I still feel that it's a valid point.
edit: to hedge the drama questions...my wife and I were married before we started playing XI and got divorced about a year afterwards...no drama in-game between us. Sorry to dissapoint the drama seekers.![]()
Well look at it this way. If you could get the 6th chest to be 100% drop by skipping some shitty chests along the way (and fail the 5 chest run as a result) that could mean the difference between a 17:30 run and a < 17:00 run. In a less than optimal group that extra time could be vital.
But yeah the difficult part is always finding a competent group rather than the content. I was in a good LS but I joined late in the game so I was never in the "first team" for new content and we lacked the resources for two competent groups.
My biggest complaint with the game is the 8 person requirement for everything. I mean why not have content that can scale from 8-15 members so that you can take 12, 15 or whatever people or two groups of 8 and experience the same difficulty? No one gets left out. I imagine that's beyond SE however but hopefully the content finder will solve it somewhat depending on how they implement it. A cross server friend list would be the best way to do it so that you can group with competent players you know elsewhere rather than any randoms you're put with. Heck why not do away with servers entirely and let you choose a world each time you login? It's 2012 here. I could only imagine the LS loyalty issues that would bring however.
The most dangerous thing: Guys who pretend to be girls, then manipulate and destroy linkshells.
From my experience, there seems to be a lot more JP players pretending to be girls when they're actually guys compared to NA players. And from what I've read on the JP boards, some of them go really long lengths to do so.
So I dunno if it's because of that or not, but quite a few JP players who are actually girls play on male characters.
The number of guys pretending to be girls is reduced drastically by voicechat, methinks.
That being said, I've seen LSes splintered exclusively by sausage-generated dramz. Look at the aforementioned Lineage example: you don't think there is wailing and gnashing of teeth when guilds are broken in all-male games?
I think it just stands out in your mind when it's because of a female, because No Woman No Cry, etc.
