I wonder what happens to nearby DoH/DoL when a FATE triggers on them... Hopefully it will just exclude those not on applicable classes instead of trying to make convoluted crafting/gathering content for every FATE.
Well, did they mention if FATE was going to be class locked? Otherwise, just change classes and complete the objective.

Modern mmos have a button to join public quest that appears on screen once in range. I can't imagine you're gonna be forced into a party. What of you're doing a quest in that area? See what I mean?

According to the translations, there should be no literal "auto-joining" - you just go close enough to the FATE area and then you can participate because the enemies have no claiming system. The "auto-partying" comment doesn't appear to be literal either. It just means during the event it's as if everyone was in a big group. The translator contradicted himself a couple times, so who knows anyway.

    Spoiler: show

    FATE
    every participant gets a reward
start will be announced in the field
    event flow:
-> get close to the area
-> party is autoformed + level synched
    -> fulfill objective
-> reward based on damage and participation time
no timers to be able to participate again
    FATE
Definition of NM as "mosters that suddenly make the otherwise safe environment dangerous"
Rewards are decided based not on party, but individual performance
All players treated as "one large party" [so basically you just get flagged as "near enough to be evaluated for a reward, which also level-synchs you to the event level]
Level sync only works one-way: if you're above content level, you will be de-levelled, if you're below content level, nothing happens.
    Other FATE types:
    village/city invasion (example: bandits/thieves)
    chocobo escort
No limit on how many people can participate in a FATE
They are thinking about a system that automatically creates an instance and moves the half of the people to a new one should the number of people reach a certain number
While this system is technologically possible, the cost is high, so they are planning to monitor the events in alpha&beta to decide if it's really needed.
    FATE
Rewards won't be useless (like, "here, have a potion"), but won't be anything rare/powerful either
Rewards will have something to do with the type of FATE cleared. For example, completing a chocobo escort will yield a reward related to chocobos.
The claiming system is disabled while in a FATE
Once a FATE starts, everyone on the zone will get that huge FATE message and the location will be marked on the map
When you get close to the FATE location, your normal objective list will be replaced with the FATE one. Once cleared, the normal objective list will become visible again.
Planning to have 5-10 different FATEs per zone

Bolded the contradiction. However, I'm willing to give the second more weight since he seemed rushed or like he was summarizing more for the first one.

GW2 bucks this trend, though, although there is no auto-partying involved there.

And there we go, Xande sleeping in the Crystal Tower. They better have Cloud of Darkness too in there.

FATE sounds exactly like the events that happened in RIFT.

Pretty sure Warhammer did it first with Public Quests. But yeah, same thing as just about every other modern MMO. WAR, Rift, GW2, etc.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that what the system will actually do is treat everyone as if they are in a party rather than actually put them in one, meaning that like... Bard buffs will affect everyone in range, even if not "partied" with the Bard.
That's what it seems like from the way I interpret things.

Obviously you will not be forced to participate.

What I meant was, if you happen to be farming enemies in a zone and FATE starts up, oops, you're now LV30 and either have to join the FATE (which may have no rewards of value for you) or basically go do something else until it's over. In effect, FATE means "this area is now dedicated to this event until it ends," which is... unusual for FF. Inability to simply decline event + forced level cap = sketchy.

    (insert "modern MMO" here)

This is clearly not how it's gonna work... You obviously haven't played a "modern MMO".

You have no idea what you're talking about, but that's cool. You'll see for yourself soon enough.

I'm still thinking back to the arrowburn justification days when he at least had something sensible to say (IE: cling to).

Personally, I do believe that if you're in the area that FATE begins, you WILL be put into a party automatically with other players in the area where FATE is taking place. If you do not want to help, not needing the rewards, or just simply working on something else, you just leave the area and disband the party (if not done automatically when you leave the area FATE is taking place). I will also even go as far to say that the areas that FATE takes place will be dedicated to the FATE event alone and will not contain any quest mobs or anything other not related to the FATE event. Just my guess...

A report from a XIV/Luminous Engine conference. Apparently nothing interesting in terms of info, there's a couple of screenshots, but too small/low quality to matter ;<

Well, which part am I missing? As I read the info so far, if you are in the area, "party is autoformed" (which may mean literal parties, but seems more likely to mean open claim) and automatically level-synched.

Is there some way to read that other than "leave the event area or be level capped"? If there's no opt-in (everything is automatic), then if you were in that area, it doesn't seem like there's much of a choice besides "go do something else until it's over," unless FATE has a defined entry period that is much shorter than the entire event.

In Rift, GW2, WAR, you're never forced to join. You can keep roaming around doing what you were doing if you don't wish to participate.

Why is it that you are always wrong or not making sense Dan. I barely post in these forums and even I'm getting that opinion of you.

I hate to be that guy, but placing XIV into a vacuum it does appear Spider-Dan could possibly be right on this one.
Their wording leaves a lot open to interpretation. Hopefully since this sounds like it is being taken from the other current MMOs the implementation would be similar/superior but based on the wording of the translations it is possible he may be correct. (Probably not though)
