If you don't want to heal, don't level a fucking healer.

Leveling a third class through the same shitty low-level quests in other games was always a chore. I already know what's going on, give me the grind instead, that's way better than having to skip the same blah blah blah and running through the same boring areas again.

We all know it's not that simple. The system breeds a player base who will instead say "If you don't have a healer, you're not coming" because top tier players who get first wins and post strategies/videos/etc. become the standard that everyone else tries to copy.

Yep, I refuse to level BLM because it is mindnumbingly dull to me, I don't get to go to xyz event, although I suppose thats a better situation than all the people who have all jobs 50, are forced to go BLM and suck because they have no gear. I only have 4 jobs level 50 so I didn't get to do the PUG only dungeon, not that I have anything against the job, just didn't have time. I can only hope that 2.0 brings more middle-of-the-road players, because otherwise I will not fit in Its not like back in ffxi where I had all the time in the world to dedicate to a single game :/ I care about being awesome, but not enough to make it another job.

I went through the mind set of not playing jobs I didn't like but I was 100% aware of the consequences. Frankly, I don't have a problem being expected to shift around sometimes as long as the job I'm asked to come as is fun to play. Also, as long as its sometimes and not every god damn time.

as someone who ran a LS in ffxi, i gotta say you guys are some selfish bastards when it comes to jobs.

    kidding,

but for real do what was suggested and dedicate yourself to a job you enjoy, not just for the utility. at some point getting into an end-game/event ls becomes the way of life for most of us. pulling teeth to get people x job for z event is no fun for anyone.

Lol back in the day when my LS was around in XI, if you leveled bard, you were bard for 99% of LS events. I never leveled bard, thank god, lol.

    Truth.

Whatever 'limits' the job changing feature brings (and doesn't everything bring limits with it? so...), it's always going to trump the horrible "do the same shit over and over again, but looking at the different character model" feature.

    Always.

Or you could level BLM, play it when necessary, gear it as necessary, succeed as a group and fuck bitches?

lol lucky for me, my top bards wanted to play it not only cause enjoyed the job, it angered them when other people played it like shit. same thing kinda happened to me as i was a career tank for most of my time in the game. when i leveled whm for a lark and tried it for events, it was like A. WTF SO MUCH POWER and B. i realized if i played whm i'd never be annoyed again waiting for people to status/cure me while i tanked.

Yep I'm never making the mistake of leveling something I'm lackluster in interest about again in another game. I despise Bard in any game now thanks to the bad memories of being forced bard for 99% of events throughout my entire FFXI endgame career. >_>

Fuck yeah! I didn't level a mage job in 11, I decided BRD would be my first 50 and BLM was my second. Love it.

Dumb question, but why does the job changing make WHM so necessary for endgame? Do people switch constantly to heal or something? If so, fuck that.

Not that frequently, but usually a run might go something like:

Enter dungeon as you are > switch a job or two for miniboss > switch jobs back for 2nd part of dungeon > switch few or more jobs for final boss.

Personally I hope they restrict job changing to what you entered dungeon as. I feel it's important to not get pidgeon-holed into a job because it performs better in a certain environment and get to play a class to your liking. It's also a reason why I like WoW's take on class balancing. Design classes to play differently but can equally excel in their roles enough so people can play the classes they like.

I started playing RDM in XI because other RDMs I partied with sucked and thought I could do a much better job and I fell in love with it. Wish Square brings RDM back.

I don't disagree with Skai. I like the ability to level every job to max on one character in the FF MMOs but I dislike the ability to change jobs on the fly wherever you are.

I do like the job changing on the fly system though. I might feel like MNKing it up on these mobs when soloing and beat some meat. Then later approach with sword and board as PLD in shining knight in armor style. However, only as a freedom of approach and not something you have to do just to min-max performance in a dungeon or raid run. Less micromanage to keep things fluid is better in my opinion.

The RDM we would see in XIV would be nothing like XI's RDM. The game system is totally different. Buff-monkey jobs don't have a very strong place, or really any, in a modern MMORPG. What we might see is a decent take on a hybrid dps class. I can see a BLU-like execution for it, which is hopefully the form it will take (not spell setting, but the combat style of melee+spell support). That would be a fantastic RDM imo.
