Well, look at it this way, if the battle system overhauls are disappointing you really won't be needing those Chocobos.

All thats telling me is that transportation is going to be EXTREMELY gimmicky and fail. I bet its going to have some stupid mini game involved or be extremely limited.
It's going to be like that racing mini-game in the ruined future of Cronotrigger. You select your destination then you must race your chocobo using a limited number of turbo boosts. If you win, you're instantly teleported to your destination. If you lose, you don't go anywhere.
I'm sure I've read my next statement on these boards before but SE has some belief behind their withholding of chocobos and other transportation. I remember they did it when they released Art Urghan and I'm pretty sure I remember them doing it when they released the past areas. I don't believe they withhold them because they're not ready. instead they must think it gives the players something that SE thinks is important. Instead of just saying their idea sucks, and it's not how other MMOs do it, what might you think it is that SE finds so important? The feel of bigger zones? A better exploration feel? Because you wont get aggro while on the chocobo, are they keeping the higher level zones more of a secret? I'd love to know what they are thinking.
Back-back-left-down-up!
+30 second chocobo timer! GREAT!
Up-left-down-down-right-down-up
+1min chocobo timer! Excellent!
It'll be tied to Companies!
When do they normally release these letters? Still no new info.
Usually on weekends or during any major holiday.
Draylo isn't actually serious. Just fyi.
1) If they're purposely delaying it they should tell us so we can stop nerd raging. Or rage harder.
2) If they don't want us to explore high level areas just make a "The chocobo refuses to go any farther" when trying to enter coerthas/dhona. The other areas are pretty much all exploreable without it, housing only a few super high level mobs.
Pretty sure that mobs not aggroing on Choco in 11 was due to partly overall limitations of how you rode one as it would have pissed me off to get access to them after sitting around for 4 hours, then when you use them, get knocked off and killed trying to go somewhere. The other part would probably be laziness on the part of devs. Hopefully they can go ahead and release some kind of chocobo mount system that they will still let you get aggro in it, but you can kill the mobs and then get back on, or die because you don't belong there yet. This also ties in with them usually acting like they want things to be realistic, althought historically they only wanted realism when it made content drag out longer.
Dunno, maybe they won't use Chocobos as standard MMO styled mounts.
When the game was announced, they stated chocobos would be in, but with a twist.
Given the game already has anima to instantly teleport players around, they might have chocobos work like customized flight paths. Something like, you undertake a mission for your Company and they lend you an armoured chocobo to ride to battle with. Silly idea probably, but it would be nice to rush to the battle front, Campaign style, while riding a huge bird.
I duno. I just can't see them not putting them in as a mount. Of course we have anima to get around fast but not enough for all our needs.
As it stands now I can;
Teleport 3 times in one day within the same zone if I have the spots saved as my favorite location(or port to city)
Teleport 2 times in one day within the same zone if said places are not my favorite location
Teleport 2 times in one day to any place outside of my zone if said places are my favorite location
Teleport 1 time in one day to any place outside of my zone if said place is not my favorite location
Of course pooling anima helps a lot, but they idea was for a causal/solo friendly game. This screams limitation to me. This morning when I logged on two friends were duo'ing raptors in coerthas. They asked me to come out and get some sp but I had to decline saying 'Sorry but I don't have a favored location in coerthas and I can't afford the 6 anima". Lucky for me one of them came back and got me but there was no way I was going to spend at least an hour running from uldah to coerthas for a sp party.
Just put in chocobos to rent. Charge 1k or whatever(gil sink). If they still have 'plans' for them to be put in as something special in the future, like for companies, just put them in then. No reason they can't be used for two different things.
