I don't even mean that (although that is hilariously ironic: "Bro, do you even chloromage? Then you don't know!"), I just mean one guy says he wants fights that are hard even if that means he won't be able to clear them, and Lucavi goes on some rant about "dead games" and elitists. I mean, really? Dude seems to have a narrative in his head and warps the words of anyone who disagrees with him into what he wishes they were saying to fit said narrative. Don Quixote, tilting at FFanboys, wherever he sees them. If he doesn't see them? He creates them.

Exactly right, but time will tell if others who left early share your sentiment that post-Tanaka 1.0 Raids were comparable to excellent raids in other games.

When I said I was interested in stupid hard content it's only because I personally enjoy a challenge. I don't expect the developers to design a mass of this content and turn most casual players away catering only to the "hardcore" base just to get my rocks off. I do understand the point Lucavi is trying to make, that would ruin a game very quickly if all bosses were AV, PW types with terrible mechanics. Nobody would enjoy that.

Don't say that, because some retard will always say "I DO!". Shit like that is for single player games, not MMOs.

I don't think anyone minds stupidly-hard-yet-well-designed content (I enjoy a bank account-destroying repair-pounding wipe-fest of a boss like any other MMO grinder) , but the difficulty must come from the encounter mechanics, not from poor game design that cripples the player. The easiest form of "badly-designed" difficult content to fix is simply an overtuned boss: an encounter that just puts out more damage than players can survive. That's rarely been the problem with an SE-designed encounter.

If they ever get to that point, I'd be happy to hang up the complaining megaphone, but currently it is what it is. Obviously you'll have BGers that tore through all of 1.0's content and were satisfied with fights, but once again, if the average BGer thinks he or she can keep the lights and heating running at SE's offices because they, themselves, enjoyed the content or thought it was well-designed, they've got a few screws loose.

Truth be told, the hardest part about any MMO is finding enough (non-retarded) people to do an event with, not the event itself. Even if you knew how to do an event, if someone else fails at their job then things just go downhill. If everyone works like a well oiled machine, then you can blow through any content almost as soon as its released.

I think that's when you know you have a pretty well-designed encounter: when that one bad apple can do just enough to screw things up for the group if they go down or take others with them. That's my opinion, at least. Takes me back to the days of heavy sighing and "wipe it up!" calls when someone mis-timed a bubble or CC and got someone killed.

Most people left before that, I think majority of people who stuck around can say that they did enjoy the raids and primal fights

setting aside the lag and limitations of 1.0, they were done well for any MMO imo

I already explained this: I know that. I know that the FF fans who stuck around with the game enjoyed the content. That's not my point, because the few people that stuck around and enjoyed the content cannot financially support a brand new game by themselves, now matter how much they want to.

You have the benefit of seeing somewhat of a turnaround in the raiding and instancing content. The rest of the world - those who SE needs to target to make a profit - have not. All they've seen is the crap in XI and the trash in 1.0. They do not share your faith, nor your experience.

The challenge not only becomes a matter of SE showing them that they can design what 1.0 veterans like yourself deem to be good raids, but also, what other MMO players deem to be good raids. 1.0's absolute best may not be enough to please others, and this is one instance where you can't put up the normal "well this game isn't for everyone else" brick wall defense, because it has to be. SE has already explained that, we all know it, and it is what it is.

As I said before, Beta will show the world just about everything it needs to see. SE has a pretty good opportunity on their hands. I don't think they'll squander it this time around.

Most of the fights were challenging at first, but if everyone knew their jobs and what to do then they became more farmable.

Probably less than 25% of the active players could even beat Garuda, but that fight as well as needing strategy was also a major skill/gear check. If the fight went on too long in either Phase 1 or Phase 3 you would eventually wipe.

Ifrit X took us a long time to get down aswell, our static group won it after maybe 70-80 attempts but after we'd beaten it once our success rate dramatically improved from then on.

It was probably just Ragnarok but if you were bored and wanted to punish yourself you could always join a pickup AV or CC, those things were notorious. Just seemed like we were overwhelmed with shit tier players.

This is true of any MMO anywhere.

The important thing is to make the fight or quest well designed from beginning to the end rewards. Even if it becomes farmable, the people that can say that at least can admit they deserve it because of the accumated effort, skill and strategy involved to get it to that point.

BG out of all places will always be the kinds of people to figure out the efficiency to make something farmable status. That's just inevitable due to the nature of players wanting to do things that way.

Now to implement a good degree of difficulty for satisfaction and also an element of fun to balance each other out for this kind of thing is the tough, but an ideal to work towards.

Let's try to shape our way into that direction!

Took a quick look at it. There's so much technical stuff it'd be a nightmare to translate lol

Basically talks about how AI pathfinding in FFXIV:ARR works.

One interesting thing of note is that a map which looks like the South Shroud is contained within.

Absolutely nothing, but it wouldn't be a simple day on the OF if someone didn't bitch and create an uproar over something ridiculously anodyne.
