Also in ffxiv death = item degradation, so even bothering to mention death mechanics that other games use is really a moot point. Fall damage mainly exists to constrain the player in a way that allows for some wiggle-room, implementing a jump mechanic with a lot of freedom means that players are going to be able to jump to places they aren't supposed to go. There is a chasm, you fall down it without fall damage, now you are stuck at the bottom of a chasm... How do you know that you aren't supposed to be there? Maybe there is a chasm that has something special in it? This allows the game to quickly inform you that you did something wrong, there is nothing there and you won't be rushing to dive down the next chasm you find next time.

They have to test it, certainly. If there is a very slight different between safe vs death that would be frustrating to all players, and should be avoided etc. People rallied for free jumping, and this is the price one has to pay for such freedoms. I suppose they could just make the whole world flat which would also solve the problem, but make for boring environments and an entirely useless jump mechanic.

Um, I guess minimizing the BS in this sort of thread is a good thing, isn't it? No one really wants to wade through that. Though maybe people might find it entertaining I suppose.

But hey, come on. They beta's coming out in maybe 2 months time, that should be something to look forward to, right? Then your criticisms and concerns will be put to use for the feedback they're asking for.

I don't even check the general forum these days because rarely is there anything new in it. Problem is something like fall damage is a "comment from the dev" so people come here first rather than make a thread on it in general. Instead of having a 4 page thread on it that people can ignore if they want you get 4 pages of it here. This thread seems to fit almost everything relating to FFXIV discussion. The fact it's 480 pages is also an issue, people can't easily find discussions on X or Y so shit gets rehashed over and over.

I for one enjoy BG's take on forums. Four hundred and eighty page long thread, welp get to reading. OF can burn in a fire, instead of 4 pages here, you'll have 4 threads there. You'd hope they'd get merged, nope. BG's fine for me.

Surely the OFs are bad because the members are retarded rather than the organisation of the forum? Multiple threads on the same issue is retarded but I think the average BGer is above that.
