Most likely leatherworkers, as back in the old days, parchment/vellum from animal skins was used for the paper as well as the cover. I could also see alchemists for making the ink, goldsmiths for the gems to embed the cover with as well as any leafing, and perhaps carpentry if they had a wooden cover.
it will be like crafting at launch of 1.0. You will need animal glue, black ink (alchemy synth from squids), refined paper (created from woodworking using pine planks), sheep leather and spinels to make the level 8 book.. obviously it will require blacksmithing to synth it all together. This will be fine on established servers but the new ones are going to be paying half a mil for level 8 arcanist books.
(please no, so glad those days are gone)
I highly doubt they would use wood pulp paper. The stuffs great for mass production, but for treasured tomes and works of literature it's terrible at durability. Even now, vellum from animal skins is used, as it can last over a thousand years if treated well. Likely the animal glue would be out as well, using leather strips or something else to bind the pages together, as glue tends to degrade fairly quickly.
I will concede the black ink, leather, and spinels though.
Most likely the crafted recipe would be something like vellum (from leather), some sort of leather (leather), black ink (alchemy), and for fancier books, perhaps gems or gold foil or the like. Not nearly as bad as some of ye olde recipes.

didn't see this posted yet, but that top hat is BAD ASS.
That top hat was already ingame before servers shut down. It's weaver AF. They gave us all the DoH hats actually (not sure about DoL but I think so too).
Yeah DOL hats were there just a crazy rare drop from Hamlet so took a lot of luck to get them.
Yup, DoL got completely fucking hosed on that little ditty.
ya i knew it was in game before, (i mained it whenever i was running around because hat = pimp) but that outfit is new, and so i assume the hat is new as well, even if similar to one we already had.
New Year's Greetings (01/01/2013)
Happy new year to all of you eagerly awaiting FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn! Yoshi-P here, writing to wish everyone the best for the coming twelve moons.
The outgoing year saw valiant adventurers gather to bear witness to the end of an era, and the alpha test for A Realm Reborn successfully conducted. Neither of these things would've been possible without your unwavering support, and I feel that now's the perfect time to express our gratitude anew. Thank you!
Two years have come and gone since I first announced our four keywords: fun, live, reboot, and rebuild. With these keywords close to heart, we have gone from milestone to milestone along our journey towards rebirth. That rebirth is now within sight, and this year we will see our goal of relaunch come to fruition.
In order to deliver a new and improved FINAL FANTASY XIV to fans of the game, of the franchise, and of Square Enix alike, we promise to spare no effort as we continue pressing onwards—towards release.
Now then, 2013—the year of rebirth—has arrived. But just when we thought that the cataclysm that ushered in the Seventh Umbral Era is behind us, it would seem a prophetic passage, penned by a man we all know and respect, has been discovered. And the message it bears rings ominously indeed...
To both our Legacy adventurers as well as those eagerly awaiting A Realm Reborn, we hope we can continue relying on your support this new year! (By way of a tip-off, be sure to jot January 7 down on your calendars!![]()

That new message sounds like a battle between factions to kill primals. I assume Garleans are the blade of might and players represent blade of light?
Jan. 7th must be phase 1 Beta launch then?
I would guess Beta apps open on Jan. 7 since they said Beta 1 starts mid-FEb.
It took me a while to figure out what the hell that purple pig thing was. That is the cutest little behemoth baby.
I think it's quite ugly, if only because it looks exactly like a painted pig with horns stuck on it.
It doesn't even have a behemoths pointy teeth. D: Now if it IS a painted pig, yes it's adorable. but i hope to gods thats not our behemoth in its youth, or it's no wonder he's so mad in the trailer.
::Edit:: looking closer, it almost is definitely a pig. it's got a pigs snout instead of a behemoth's maw, its tail is far too thin, it's got the body structure of a swine, and it's got hooves instead of the bear/catlike paws of a behemoth. Also would make more sense as a pet, since a pet pig is definitely safer than a pet carnivore that will eventually swallow you whole. lol
The real question is, is that a real bomb, or another creature disguised as one also... I know in some final fantasies, they were created as weapons against mages, hence their aggressiveness to magic, so i wonder if someone made a bomb construct not as a weapon, but as an adorable pet. Or maybe it's a malfunctioning defect like vivi...?![]()
Babies don't have teeth, broham.
Spoiler: show
I feel like I'm being whooshed. 0% thats a baby behemoth.
