Gathering hasn't been a good way to make money since they changed the system to allow you to gather 24/7. Logs that used to cost 8-10k went down to like 1k. It also didn't help that it was around then it became so much easier to level crafts, so no longer did each player need 1k walnut logs to get from 37-50. In short, there's way more supply than demand and I don't know how they can address that.

I made ~120m from mining, 45m in about a weeks time, sucks that it wasn't good any longer.

Gathering shards would awesome. I did make a lot of gil off of gathering though, so hope that can continue in some way.

I had to regularly deposit mine on a retainer to keep from losing them to the inv cap, one of them had 9999 of almost every element.

I don't think the rewards in alpha included crystals, but I could be mistaken.

Let's just say that crafting leves aren't worth it anymore and gathering leves weren't there.

Yeah mass gathering crystals was an annoyance for sure, especially when you could actually find an open tree to gather from and taking crystals instead of wood.

I never had a hard time with crystals except a few elements when I would just try to burn through a craft. But regardless, if they make it harder which I am assuming they will... Having help from A.I. would be sweet. They have tried to get your a character a companion in Final Fantasy for a while, it has just never been successful. At least for me. I gardened in XI though, just if I left my house for a while everything would go to shit.

Yeah it would be terrible for DoL's if they did it like SWTOR did. You didn't even have to gather anything, just send your companions out on quests and hope they returned with good crap. You could still go out and gather, but if you could have someone do it for you it took that much more out of the game for me.

Don't your shards / crystals carry over from v1.0? I got about five trillion Crystals and Shards from doing Rod of the Luminary and then turning a lot of the fish into crystals for the Alembic of the Luminary.
