first a reduced fee, then chocobo, now crystals. IT DOESN'T EVEN END.

We're gonna rule Eorzea as the new coin lords of Ul'dah!!!
Or something.
And this is why I'm going to start over on a new server...
Personally I will be happy about not having to worry about crystals for a looooong time.
It paid off a little bit to be dedicated to Final Fantasy even when they release trash (in comparison to what we are used too). I do have a bad feeling about "releasing" a new game with a lot of people maxed out at 50 with nearly every job with the best gear including relics.. I would not want to start from that far behind.
You won't be "behind" if you start on a new server. Why would someone start a new character on an established server at this point, anyway?
If you're the type to respond "because XXY friend is there!", then you should hope that SE allows for "guesting" or something similiar to GW2 to allow you to play with your friend on another server, while not being subject to their fucked economy.
You know SE will not allow for that :/ Hopefully with enough new people on old servers it will equalize the economy a bit -- or the way they start implementing housing. I unfortunately am not floating in cash so sometimes I feel like financially I'd be better off on another server, its not feasible because I'm not going to give up my character progress or friends.
Apparently there was a ninja edit to the PDF and now the NDA will be lifted at the beginning of Phase 3 as opposed to beginning of OB. Should be sooner if you ask me but w/e...
So I guess that using this logic, the "unfucked" economy is the one with LV1 crafters and gatherers? We surely must avoid that "fucked" economy at NA XI startup, what with all the buying of crafted items from higher-level players instead of from NPCs, and all the already-existing higher-level crafters buying up the mats the newbies were farming.
Those who start characters on new servers (ostensibly so that they won't have to see people who are better off than they are) will receive their just rewards.
Goes both ways.
Old server: Things cost more (maybe), people have more shinies and more purchasing power and make me feel bad in my vagina.
I farm this ore, I farm this skin, I farm this fruit. I sell them and I make money relative to the finished products value.
People are leveling the new jobs so the opportunity to play with people and meet new people who may have connections to help me in the actual fun part of the game, or join starter linkshells/feeder linkshells is always present. Dungeons can be ran with more experienced people (lol who am I kidding this is an SE MMO good luck with that)
New server: Things cost more or less, depending on how the economy begins to flesh out with some people attempting to make early scores for crafting and different tier materials/type of materials being worth more or less, dictated by the overall amount of gil in the economy. I don't have to look at anyone with more shinies than me because we all start at the same level, except for 24 hours later when someone hits 50 because then they are shinier.
What I need to, or should farm, changes often and the market is hard to predict. I can make money farming, but that value may not accurately rise with inflation as gil in circulation increases. With the promise of the server being open to all in the future, it's not sure if that value will ever meet the inflation that comes with that.
People are all leveling new jobs, farming AF, doing quests, etc. Opportunity to start new linkshells with friends and experience their drama because 100% of you are terrible judges of character/people. Linkshell breaks because 25% of the shell is strung on some e-pussy or e-pussy related drop discussion. Have to learn dungeons (as a group) and deal with Madawc-like beings who claim Warrior is fire based and strong to fire.
The old servers will be less subject to early game price-gouging and material bottlenecking. Items will be more accurately valued based on the difficulty to acquire in a mature economy, instead of based on the whatever SE sets the NPC prices at (because NPC mats will be the primary source while people are busy leveling battle jobs in the early game).
You can be assured that there will be a sizable contingent of high-level crafters and gatherers that hit the ground on the old servers and have little interest in battle (because they already have plenty of capped battle jobs). You cannot say the same about the new servers.
Surely if they allow transfers to "new" servers later there will be a gil transfer cap like WoW has.
There will be no transfers to "new" servers (for the time being), which is the whole point. Any server that allows existing 1.0 characters to begin 2.0 there would be defined as an "old" server (regardless of whether or not said server actually existed in 1.0).
On a side note, regarding the whole "cost of items" issue: this is not a point in favor of new server. Things may cost more (because of the higher amount of existing gil in the economy), but that also means that things will also sell for more.
All other things being equal, an economy with more gil is better than an economy with less gil, because fixed NPC fees are less consequential.
There's no way in hell I'm going to be staying on a server with people that already have 500+ million gil, no matter how "mature" the economy might be. I'll take my chances with a fresh start with a fresh character. That said, since I already -have- an established character, its as easy as logging onto that character myself in order to see just how much gouging is going on. I made my nice bank whilst I was still playing through my own niche, and I have absolutely no problem doing it again.
You're making this out to be far worse than it is, but that's just vintage Spider Dan for ya.
And we were making such progress before, what with me agreeing with you on something, for once.
It doesn't really matter if someone has 500m gil. If there are no super rare drops used in making relics or such that can be controlled with gil, then there's no way to really utilize 500m except in short bursts to make more. This is the same way XI is, and even in XI you saw the new servers balance with the old in terms of economy.
Everyone can go farm ore, everyone can farm skins, everyone can craft, and everyone can farm materia. There really is no way to control a market because any market that becomes lucrative gets undercut so heavily you may get 1-3 days if you're lucky before it goes to shit. These are SE MMOers so being lazy and never even checking if a price changed or "keeping it at a decent price herp herp" fucks any money making schemes.
@Superbad: Are you brazilian?
Accurate.
What does your existing character with two (?) whole months of gameplay behind it have to do with anything? A brand new PS3 player can create a character on an old server, log in, and check the wards/AH to see what prices look like relative to, you know, actual value.I'll take my chances with a fresh start with a fresh character. That said, since I already -have- an established character, its as easy as logging onto that character myself in order to see just how much gouging is going on.
Not that that does him (or you) a damn bit of good, since the prices on the new server are what they are.
I'd say I'm making it out to be worse, full stop. If you want to argue that a worse economy is worth not going through the anguish of seeing another guy walking through town with a gold medallion around his neck, be my guest. You're making this out to be far worse than it is, but that's just vintage Spider Dan for ya.
I left myself with something like 10k from 30mil before 1.0 went down for good. I'm not worried, and won't re-roll. Making gil in an mmo is basic tier bs. If you can't figure out how to make money with a bunch of existing 50's you're doing something very wrong and should probably just stop playing or kill yourself.
I barely touched alpha so idk what they really messed with, but I'm sure it's still going to be easy to make money, you just have to use your brain a little bit.
Love how a bi-product of Valefor became a staple name of what not to do when you MMO. Don't forget that PCC is shit for Dark Knight because http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__...Trans_Dark.gif-10.
