Yoshi looks tired as hell.
Yoshi looks tired as hell.
beta test client is now available for download.
Why bother making it if it's not going to be in the game though? I believe there was a question about it in the live letter.
Q28: Will we be able to fight giant monsters such as the adamantoise that appears in the benchmark video?
A28: The benchmark video contains content that was specially created for PR-purposes, but you will be able to fight giant monsters starting from phase 1 of the Beta Test. Experience it for yourself and let us know if you want to fight something even bigger!
Maybe they will scale it down or something. It did look out of place in the Black Shroud however, so maybe it will be relocated to La Noscea.
Are yall forgetting about the NDA? Shits been getting pretty borderline disclosure with some of yall on BG lately. Blah Blah Blah NDA, gofkurself Wara. Sure, but I mean... come on. GYZ IM IN BETA, THE CLIENT IS UP FOR DOWNLOAD!!Z111Z!!
Edit* hehehe, :foot in mouth: apperently Yoshi saying client up for download.. oh fucking well. CARRY ON BG, NOTHING TO SEE HERE.
I don't think anyone has ever cared about non-game related leaks. Oh, no! Non-beta testers will know that there's a beta client they can't access!
Giant turtles might have something to do with Lore in general. I can't remember where I saw this but didn't the Dunesfolk Tarus live on the back of giant turtles? Maybe its a giant turtle house!
Edit: nvm, well maybe. I found the piece of lore I was thinking of
"Perhaps the most unique characteristic of the Dunesfolk is their native dwellings—structures affixed to the backs of large beasts of burden." for some reason I keep thinking of adamantoises when I think of large beasts... probably because of FF13.
*carries on* I didn't get a chance to watch the live video... well... live but.
Holy craps some of those vanity pets are cute! I want everything I see from the screen caps. All of it. I keep trying to calm my enthusiasm down so I walk in with low expectations but it's so hard...
Is it Monday yet?
I think as well that if enough players go "OMG I WANT BIG ASS TURTLES YOSHI" there will be big ass turtles. He seems to want that anyways. I doubt it would take more than a few posts and a few + votes for him to walk to his team and make it happen. Judging from our reaction and others... it has a higher chance of happening than we might think.
As far as, what the NDA guidelines are, you can talk about a beta client being available, you just can't post where it is, or how big it is etc. I'm sitting here mashing F5 at work just to make sure no one does... something that could potentially be NDA breaking, it will be removed...! (and so will you, possibly!) of course that would be up to sono ultimately![]()
Are we allowed to comment on how fast the download speeds are? Even without mentioning numbers. In any case I'm quite impressed and I would really hope that for release the download speeds of client/patches are even at least half of the current speed I'm getting.
But of course that won't happen, and we will be back to 30 KB/s downloads.
If people didn't read/notice it in the interviews: Teleports will now use Gil instead of Anima.
Also, this:
I wandered around the area a bit, exploring the area while eagerly awaiting the FATE that never came. I returned back to the nearest Aetheryte and noticed the Chocobo Porter NPC. I thought “oh cool, a place to rent Chocobos near Aetherytes now!” Yes, but not quite. The Chocobo Porter is a bit different from simply renting a yellow warker. When you rent a bird from a Porter, you select a destination (an area that you must have previously visited) and the bird will automatically carry you to your destination without the risk of attracting any enemies. You can disband the bird at any time while traveling to your destination.
I don't mind this. It's like XI chocobos on auto-pilot.
I'm all for the option to chocoback off somewhere and pay some gil to be able to step away from my desk in the process.
Yeah I would totally pay out of pocket gil for an autopilot chocobo. There's nothing I hate more than not wanting to waste anima and jumping on my bird on auto run, and adjusting trajectory every few seconds till I get where I want to. With this new feature, I can alt tab and search up something, or sit back and type chat. Very welcome feature, still keeps rental birds relevant to players with birds already.
It would be even more amazing if they can develop and autopilot for your regular mounts too... mmm...
GamerScape
The one and only (best) thing that sets FFXIV apart, for me, from other MMO's is the fact that its a Final Fantasy game. I am way more attached to the lore, characters, monsters, and stories than I am about how the game ultimately plays. I have tried time and time again to play other MMO's, to just ultimately be disenfranchised with what they have to bring. I think that the history Square has built with their customers over the last 2 and half decades is way more important to the survival of this game than any game site can predict.
I haven't seen this relationship been mentioned in the recent interviews, and I find its probably the one outstanding thing he could bring up. Although I can understand he is trying to pander to the non-franchised prospected players with his generalizations, which is okay too.
Yoshi and his team really have given it their all for this project, regardless of how it will ultimately end up. Good for them, they will have a great future with their careers because of it.
I'm attached more to lore than to any specific game. I have equal love for Raogrimm and the Ark Angels as I do Nerzhul and the Lich King as I do for Zhaitan and the Ascalonians. I enjoy any game I'm in, so long as the lore is good and the post-release execution of the game doesn't suck ass (IE: Cash grabs). Therefore, I can take multiple good things from every game, such as the class system of Rift, the freedom of movement in WoW, the focused combat of XI, and the constant content of GW2. All of them have stuff to offer the genre; good, meaty stuff. It seems that Yoshi isn't turning a blind eye to the stuff that the other games offer, and this is the only reason (the ONLY) that I feel that XIV may have a chance at survival, for, as we all know, its not so easy for a modern-age MMO to survive simply because of its established fanboy population. That mess worked for XI, with its vastly less expensive budget and maintenence costs, but will not work for a 2013 product.
I'm looking forward to getting into this. I'm looking forward to punching shit with Monk just as much as I am the new WvW rewards and content in GW2. Sadly, I won't be able to punch anything until retail (or possibly P3? Are they unlocking all classes at P3?), but I can skewer enough stuff to retain my interest.
