There was a chart on OF if you wish to look for it. Search truncated at 200, so it was pretty easy to notice when you did a search and 167 people came up. If there were more, you could search 1-25 and 26-50 and just combine the two numbers.

Oh okay, it's on the OF.
Mioko posted earlier what the box subs were; I wonder if there's anyway to get a post of the total Legacy subs. Even within those Legacy numbers, its only a vocal minority of those subs (after all, there are very few people here on BG that have legacy that I'd even think to consider OF-class) that are actually of OF "quality".
I'm being lenient when say a "vocal minority". They're more like the Westborough Baptist Church amongst a throng of supporters.
Here's the last shot I contributed, since for some reason you find this hard to believe.
Latest idiocy: a "so long, no hard feelings" tearjerker from a player who tried his best to like the game, and must now regretfully part ways with the lot of us.
(<.< ) Also, lalafell bust slider thread and and three different "combat is bland" threads which Elcura summarized pretty well a page back.
I'm about ready to torch the forums. Anyone got a can of kerosene?
200 concurrent users at time doesn't really tell you how many people are actually subbed.
you're assuming the number of player who actively play is indicative of legacy subs. it really isn't.
besides, i'm sure a bunch of people who don't play decided they wanted legacy when they heard of it (like me). Its just 3 months of subs. i'm legacy and didn't bother to play that shit. and they played it up by offering discounts for future play - which means to say if you're gonna play XIV in the long run come 2.0, it pays itself off.
also, you have to factor in doomsday psychology. some people would have put off playing the game knowing that the version they're playing was coming to an end and being replaced. sure there isn't going to be a pwipe, but its fairly demoralizing to know that whatever you do now may not necessarily matter at all once 2.0 rolls by.
One snapshot at one [unspecified] time on one server using a broken search feature to show only level 50 players does not accurately describe a demographic. Your search fails to capture any players that are leveling up any additional classes, something that became increasingly common as the end of the game grew near. Your polling method was inherently broken and thus the results were unreliable at best. A server population is not described by only those who are currently logged in on a max-level class.
As a further anecdote, I was on Durandal and I can tell you now that there was no shortage of players in either JP or NA time.
[edit]
Spira captures the other half of why your polling mechanic fails.
Thanks for the common sense counterpoints, but nobody is trying to make those arguments. Point being that there isnt anywhere near 25,000 people in the beta. And if there is, somehow, and they actually all do log in at one time, I'm not using it to make excuses why this ridiculous lag is ok after dealing with it for four years of what was essentially an extremely long pre-alpha test.
At some point they have to show they're actually capable of fixing it. Launch will fix it, patch will fix it, 2.0 will fix it, alpha will fix it, beta will fix it beta phase 4 will fix it.
ATB bar is another flavor of GCD. Shocking.
Lag in a beta? AY DIOS MIOS!
Bitch please, the lag yesterday wasn't in the 2.0 alpha and it was never to any similar degree in the 1.0 game except for maybe at launch.
Not sure if I can say because of the NDA, but the lag was caused by a glitch with FATE and something else. WELCOME TO BETA!
What are you talking about? This is supposed to represent the final product and we're just simply being given the early-access we are entitled to just to play around and see if we like it.
