This. Saying anything more than "the lag was caused by a specific glitch and not a system-wide issue" is about as much as can be said without breaking NDA.
Bad statistics is kind of a pet peeve of mine, even more so with a few graduate level courses on the subject.
XI has jaded me into feeling SE doesn't care about non-JP feedback unless it's reporting some super evil bug, and even then it could persist until the JPs catch on. So I wouldn't worry too much about NA shenanigans as much as hearing some people want to cling to ancient MMO mechanics makes me want to cringe.
Pretty much. They're mostly sensationalized crap chasing for ratings.
One interview with Yoshida had him mentioning that the JP community is just about as venomous, but they have no basis or directly with their complaints. The main difference being the English crowd draws comparisons and gives [often misguided] suggestions rather than saying something shouldn't be done the way it is currently with no suggestions for change. No excuse for stupidity, but an interesting contrast.
Deuce... your avatar... and Sig.... is great. Are you going to update the quoted stuff with new ones?
Sorry, I was in Alpha too. Other people moonwalked across the floor everytime they made a pivot, and enemies moved full seconds after "Out of range" was on the screen. The circle test was still an abominable failure. If you want to see the Alpha video that can be arranged, but I obviously can't post it here.
Ya, abilities tend to fire when you press the button now. A glorious result of being client-side rather than left up to the servers. That doesn't mean lag isn't omnipresent in everything that you do.
At the rate they're going I almost want to make a thread dedicated to the thread titles and other quotes they have on the Beta Forums. Too much gold for it to be brushed under the rug by the countless threads that are made every day.Deuce... your avatar... and Sig.... is great. Are you going to update the quoted stuff with new ones?
So Jps don't give suggestions, and the English group does?
I mean stupidity is stupidity, but at least with suggestions there is more internal understanding as to why it is their problem instead of just saying "it smells." I'm sure for the dev team its easier to sort out which is a valid suggestion and which is just whiners.
I have completely ignored the General discussion sections of OF because I see nothing of value in it, which is probably sad because it means a large part of the community is being silenced due to stupidity. The feedback sections aren't terrible (at least the parts I read, I didn't have any feedback for battle) so maybe there is a very small glimmer of hope. I think they have enough vision that they aren't going to sway from their core goals, so hopefully there is stuff on there that is of use, even if they were already working towards that plan and it just serves as confirmation. My main problem is that people are so self-important that they need to be appeased when there is no reason why you would assume that to be the case.
Both JP and NA can/will give stupid suggestions, JP at least don't post nearly as much... unless its on 2chan, thats like the official forums for them where they post everything and anything and not flood the OF with it.
If I recall, there was a debate about panties on the JP side... (a very long detailed one)
^ JP are absolutely retarded on 2chan, and since there's no names, you can never attribute the stupidity to an isolated poster (or set of posters).
But yes, to anyone who thinks that JP are perfect and aren't exactly like the rest of the world, they make insanely stupid comments all the time.
Battle feedback is about as bad as you'd expect; other sections are better. I expect it's a wash, as given what Yoshida has said with regards to his direction and what kind of feedback he was looking for, it's entirely possible he may have issued a blanket directive to the translators to not bother with all the '1.2X was better' remarks.
Possible NDA breakage, so nevermind.
XIV had 162k sales in the first week.
162,259 week 1 retail sales / 17 retail servers = ~9544 users per server
Literally over 9000 users per server and only 200 logged in concurrently? How does that work?
edit: Or are you talking specifically about simultaneous logins at end of 1.23?
