Yoshida just started laying down the law in his usual manner with quite the lengthy post.
Though I have a feeling the Beta posters are gonna pitch quite a hissy fit after this one...
Let 'em cry. They need to understand that the universe is not their oyster.
Yoshi P is quite adept at diplomacy. It seems elementary, but it actually takes a good bit of skill to tell someone shut the hell up simply by making your points. (o.O ) I always get that sense from his posts.
I took particular note of his commentary about overuse of AoEs being destructive to game balance. 0.o I tend to agree. I hope this means that we can expect BLM's elemental spells to have been renovated to match that statement. Very eager to see BLM changes. >.>
EDIT: Not to say that AOEs are bad per se, but (>> ) well I'm sure we can all agree that Ring of Talons on GCD would be thoroughly busted.
Awesome, but busted. :X
I can see AoE dependency being a problem. I sort of... deal with it on my warrior's solo build on Rift. Even if it's weaker for single target fights, the broader scope of gathering 3+ mobs and taking them out faster than 3 individual fights is just too appealing. Socially, this can be a grief vector if some decides, "This area is MINE!" and habitually gathers every critter to boom without concern for anyone else's wants or needs. I'm sure we've all seen related drama in XI via unwanted FCs, AoE farming (back in the day), or even colibri parties with lots of overpulling going on. Of course, you can't go and make ST damage too good or AoEs too weak, as the first will then become the norm while the latter will never get used in consequence. It isn't an enviable position.![]()
When grinding any "kill x [mob]" objectives, I already claim as many as I can if multiples are up just so I am guaranteed credit when they are inevitably killed by everyone else around me going after the same thing. :3 AoEs will be pretty annoying in that regard if they claim everything they hit.
wtb princess with adds and no aoe
I don't even understand why there is a general discussion on the OF Beta forums, lol. All I see is trolling or people trying to relive 2003-2010(Before Abyssea ruined everything, according to the purists). So many people need to be banned over there and have the bans carry over to the rest of the BETA phases.
Oh this one's just golden. I had to.
I know people probably won't agree with this but if you can't spend more than 5 hours a day playing an MMO you really should consider buying a single player RPG, this way you won't waste money per month on something you will hardly touch due to work or whatever. Just my 2 cents
Yoshi, oh, Yoshi <3
I, for one, feel pretty good for the game seeing what this man is constantly doing.
Whoa i didnt see that part.
Once these mouth breathers reach higher level and see what Yoshi-p has in store for the battle system they will soon STFU. Inviting all legacy players into phase 1 was a terrible idea. Going from having all 50s to a level 1 newbie mode has hit most of them really hard. Legacy players were best placed to test the higher content so shouldn't have been prioritised in this way until character imports were ready. Another example of SE trying to reward people going wrong. I say this as a legacy member too, but then I've not been bitching about the game being too easy/lacking depth at starter levels. I'm looking forward to rocking my ACN upon release to try out as much low level content as possible.
That's my typical approach. All you get by being defensive and antagonistic is a shouting match that goes on for pages. Nothing sticks it to a chronic complainer better than a bullet list of solid points.
The only difference would be a delay in the number of "mouth breathers" with Legacy status lodging their complaints. For every chronic complainer with legacy status there's another legacy player that will have valid contributions ranging from character creation to end game. Removing legacy priority doesn't guarantee a better tester pool. Some legacy members may never have seen 1.23+, but rock their level 50 THM from the "good old days". Some non-legacy may have only seen 1.23+ but never even saw endgame content. There are even legacy players that never even reached level 50. Legacy only means that someone put down the $30 for 3 months of paid playtime. It doesn't mean they used it to the full extent possible, or even at all. Overall, it's a title that means you financially supported the transition from 1.0 to ARR. Given that the Legacy pool runs the gamut from lowbie to end game players and complainers to strong contributors, much like the non-Legacy pool, it makes little sense to believe prioritizing or not prioritizing their participation in the beta test would have an overall effect on the quality of contributions.
Just read that massive posts... This man gets it.
Also, finally someone decided "Hey let's have PvP skills and PvE skills that way we're not nerfing someone in PvE when we meant to nerf them only in PvP." ABOUT FUCKING TIME.
I thought that was the point of Determination & Morale stats.
Has it been mentioned anywhere if the Duty Finder would allow groups to match against other groups?
