Churchill, you still don't seem to get it. When you say:

... you have put up a giant red flag that screams one of two things:

1) "I was not playing MNK in 2004"
2) "I was playing MNK in 2004, but I was completely clueless and had no idea what I was doing"

There is no third option.

It's apparent that you clearly remember 2008, where those who relied on sushi (to cover gear deficiencies) were looked down upon as gimp. You seem to think that you can just extrapolate that "sushi is for scrubs" mentality backward indefinitely into the past. What you don't understand is that in the pre-merit era, when sushi was released, it was a godsend and every DD was using it (not necessarily for everything, but there was no serious player that never used sushi in '04).

If you are claiming that you were an endgame MNK in 2004, and you fought Byakko without sushi, then you are either a liar or incredibly dumb. Presuming that you are neither of those things, the only other answer is that you weren't an endgamer until much later, which conveniently squares with all the other statements you are making.

I'm not sure which is more disturbing... the 2-3 page debate over ffxi content that is near 8-9 years old about rng, pld and mnk, or a group or naked men sitting around a campfire. Both are equally wtf (yes the discussion is getting to that level of wtf)

I haven't played FFXi in like 7 years, but I was one of those early bird no lifers who played in the beta and hit 75 before most people(as brd). MNK/NIN and WAR/NIN tanks weren't common practice, but that doesn't mean there weren't exceptional players who didn't/couldn't do it. Before I stopped playing, on Bahamut at least RDM/NIN tanks were the most common practice in JP HNM shells. In the NA scene most guilds used PLD/NIN with a NIN/WAR minority so its no wonder you believe people didn't tank on anything else.

Jesting aside, I hope they show some screenies of in-game models of the awesome concept art that was shown last letter, the Leo/Bear armor, the mage jacket, the fighter armor, et cetera.
