Crabs already exist in FFXIV so if they stole the old model they would have to be crablets or something. I really liked the design they used, he was super huge and awesome.

Not a troll!!.. and HI CUTRISS ;p. bismarck name?
As for the question, I was just curious what everyone's opinion is regarding the game having major "appeal" or not. Some series in FF have taken me off my feet while others have bored me within the first 30min.
I was a beta tester for FFXIV v1.0 when it first came out and I didn't really give it a chance to get better with updates/patches so I guess my opinion is not valid. Just wanted some of your feedback. I consider this forum to have some "elite" players and I respect their opinion and feedback. I've read quite a bit and I'll say this, I think the release mid year of ARR will grab the same type of numbers FFXI did, possibly even more. I think the game will have major appeal and I'm excited for the release!
Anywho! What was your favorite memorable area in FFXI? Mine was valkrum dunes, jeuno and sky/moon!
Control
I think the major appeal shouldn't be a problem.
one of the major strengths of FF is its flavor and the immersion in the world. While XIV 1.0 didn't have much of a problem in terms of its visual element, most if not all of its zones lacked character, which is probably attributable to its copypasta nature. ARR's zones are vastly different and you're brought back to that sense of wonder and visual splendor when you visit the place.
I'm a visual person and environmental appeal is very important to me.. so when I watched this video, i was very happy with that.
while FFXIII did have Gran Pulse, XIV will be the first FF in a while to explore traditional fantasy aesthetics similar to FF9 but more significantly, the high fantasy style that made FF12 amazing (thanks to mr art director), and does so in full HD glory.. so i'm really looking forward to it.
My fave memorable area in XI is Ru'Aun Gardens. it had a simple architectural style but was both grandiose and natural, and i loved its openness.
zones now look amazing, there's so much variety to them and unlike any other MMO I played when you see something on the horizon you can run to it and see it up close. Unlike in games like TERA where background is just a picture.
It's not your first MMO and you aren't 15 years old or a woman, so probably not going to get swept off your feet. We have to wait for Phase 3 to get a real idea of what the game will be like, as it stands it looks more like a game meant to bring FFXI players into 2008 than a 2013 MMO. Hopefully the gameplay issues that exist will be corrected or scrapped and those of us who did love the game can be as happy as all of the people who have never played it. The main thing anyone wants, whether they be 1.23 or 1.0 or never played is for the game to be good.As for the question, I was just curious what everyone's opinion is regarding the game having major "appeal" or not. I haven't seen this mentioned but in the official website they apparently have uploaded some new screenshots for jobs and classes. However I can't find anything new in the class and job pages so I'm not sure where these new screenshots are supposed to be.
We're going to see more XI mobs as time goes on (little crabs for sure, probably saplings if they're not already there). We're going to see monsters from XII. We're going to see monsters from older games re-imagined. We're going to see new monsters.
My preference is for the largest variety of monsters possible. If pulling monsters directly from XI helps them accomplish this, I'm fine with it.
Ok, the new screenshots are up now. Some interesting things there for sure (Ifrit's claws are actually on fire now... not sure if it's PUG's Fist ability or the claws themselves).
Nothing new for Arcanist and Summoner.
Is that Marauder doing a job emote? lol
Jobs have new screenshots too btw, in case you want to post those too.
EDIT: You were too fast.
Game's certainly not hurting for eye candy there. Makes my nearly 3 year old PC weep a little, though, as it probably means playing on med/low settings.
Personally, I'm really hurting at these early PS3 Limitation things. Can't be all too good for the future.
Well, if they ever do a PS4 port, maybe SE could do some "Buy a year sub and trade in your PS3 to get a PS4 for $150!" deal or something and then eventually drop the PS3. >.>
I don't recognize that THM weapon, can someone fill me in? Guessing it's a GC weapon that I just never saw, since there's a Flame Lieutenant Axe (I think) there.
I'm probably just too used to seeing Lightning Brands and Electrum Scepters. Nope, I was in DisposableHeroes back then and that's all I'll say.
It's an astrolabe
Ah, that would've been my other guess, one of the turns-into-a-relic weapons. Presumably the GLD sword is the same.
Thanks.
Loving those screenshots
