70-72c isnt high. it depends on your CPU. I mean my Ivy Bridge 1700 can hit up to 80c watercooled, and thats perfectly acceptable for my CPU. all CPU's have different thresholds

You'd think they could easily implement this with the Hunting Log, which is basically a bestiary without any details.

I would suggest a topic in Tech. They're pretty damn good at troubleshooting. Off the top of my head? Dying/overheating GPU. But I'm no expert.

750W is more than you need, typically wattage in that range are used for dual card setups I believe, so it'd have to be faulty. There's no way it's insufficient. As I'm running a rig built with 2012+ components on 530W.

It'll always be that way so long as SE remains a japanese company, catering largely to a console crowd.

It just is what it is.

If they could port this to the 3DS, you know they would. You KNOW they would; they'd see all that potential money to be made - all those potential Japanese players to tout around in their quarterly earnings reports - while ignoring how much it would cripple the potential for the game on a power-standpoint.

Depending on the flexibility of the mods we'll be able to create, we can probably just create our own bestiary or whatever else we want to add to the game that SE didn't include.

...being the error I get, followed up by my screen flickering and usually requiring a restart to play any game. Since I've detached the dongle and controller as well as playing Rift on LQ settings, I've only had a crash once in like 3 weeks whereas it was almost a daily happening, sometimes more, when trying to play those games on higher settings. While my card potentially dying may be the cause, Nvidia blew me off. Rift's code guy actually acknowledged my post and said it wasn't them, either. Attempt at "understanding" the problem led me to the power issue, with more abstract possibilities being program conflicts.

But yeah, I don't want to junk up the thread too much with my issues. If someone more knowledgeable wants to clue me in on things I can better check, PM away. I've also taken to running MSI Afterburner to up my fan use in the event it may be an overheating issue (since my room is hot in general), but my temp values never seem to exceed danger areas... usually 70-72C at highest loads, presently 53C just web surfing.
try updating video drivers, isn't it at like 314.22 now, maybe it fixed you issue, also video card can handle heat a lot better then a CPU, 70C is average high usage, overheating is when it nears 100C and starts throttling itself and the fan is running like a jet engine.

P.S. hentai at 2560x1440 glory is awesome too btw, or in FFXIV case, running against an object and getting to see the glory of the physics engine at work... (´¬`)

I'm speaking more on graphical potential and combat engine mechanics than fluff like bestiary content.

Short of the card encroaching death, I'm just more inclined to say I've been playing games with shitty engines. Of more recent titles, I haven't had issues with GW2 or Diablo III, though the former I couldn't really play on high in crowded areas because I do feel my processor was a bit on the dated side even when this unit was put together as a gift. But yeah, I need to find a new job before I can even consider anything grand like a new PC.

Edit: And drivers are also up to date. That crop was just from when I queried Nvidia last month, but it'd basically spanned multiple driver versions prior.

A lot of hate for the PS3 version even though we haven't even seen the beta build of it yet.

If you want some reasons why they continued through with the PS3 version well here you go:

    http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/16/3...-sales-figures

Over 77 million units are the more recent figures. Either way, that is a very large install base that is currently untapped. Also, I think over the next several years we will see some AAA MMOs making their way to the PS4 and the new Xbox. If they create a PS3 version it will give them a head start on the competition because a lot of the infrastructure will be in place. Being on the PSN Store, having a console based UI, among other things. So, from a business standpoint creating a PS3 version is a great idea.

We also can't forget that Square Enix promised a PS3 version several years ago. For many companies it might have been ok to cancel that version, but since SE is a Japanese developer it becomes more complicated. A lot of potential players in Japan are players playing on the PS3. Also, it would probably be shameful for the developer and produce more bad PR for them if they went back on their promise, especially after many customers already pre-ordered that version.

So, whether you like it or not there's going to be a PS3 version and there's no point in arguing about it.

Sorry, but you don't get to decide if there's no point to stating an opinion regarding Japan's obsession with limiting potential through addiction to consoles. We know its coming out for PS3. Nobody is arguing the opposite. We know about profits through consoles - I just stated that very fact above. Its still a shame to see a game's potential stimed through affixing it to a limited and perpetually-dying console. No matter how much power a console starts out with, it will never improve. Potential is limited, as it has always been.

What game breaking omissions are there because a separately developed console version exists? An in-game beastiary is hardly one of them.

And FFXIV: ARR's potential hurt by the PS3 version? What do you have to back this up?

As for Japan's "obsession" with consoles. They aren't obsessed, it has to do with the fact that PCs are a lot more expensive in Japan than they are abroad. On top of that space in most Japanese homes and apartments is quite limited making it difficult for most Japanese users to find extra space for a desk and tower. This leads to consoles being far more popular because of their size and cost advantages.

A PS3 version won't limit its potential. A "console version" perhaps, but they're not going to be hamstringing the PC engine because the PS3 graphics can't handle it. They'll be on the same footing until the DX11 engine arrives, and then you will likely start seeing disparity between the PC and the PS3 versions.

I know this is SE and optimism is dumb, but they're planning for the best of both worlds, so we could at least see what happens before we start saying "Game will fail".

    1) We'll see. Time will tell.

    2) I never said the game will fail. That would be stupid, as XI is still running on the PS2 and is hardly a failure. I said it'd be limiting the potential of the game itself, which is truth. The PS3 is a weak system - a pathetic system by today's standards. 512 MEGS of ram? Okay, good luck supporting a constantly-upgrading MMO for 5+ years with 512 megs or ram.

The game won't crash or burn. It just won't have the same potential if SE as a company is fearful of having any major differences between the console and PC versions, due to the fact that all of their Japanese players play on console and they don't want to "upset" their primary target. They can lip-speak to the rest of the world as much as they want: Japan comes first, and many developers begrudgingly admit to it.

Not an attack, but I believe the advice you'd give someone in this situation is "don't play it then".

At first, I also thought that the PS3 would be limiting the PC version of the game. From my understanding, games are made with a certain platform and then ported(recoded w/e) for functionality on another console. If that is the case, or maybe it isnt because this is a cross platform mmo, shouldn't the PC version be unaffected by PS3 since the PC is the original platform. If that is true, I would assume that the PS3 version's only hindrance is the fact that is taking extra resources from finishing the game sooner.

Anyhow, the game looks great to me in its unpolished( I hope unpolished) DX9 state.

FFXIV was built with the Crystal Tools game engine, which was originally designed for consoles. The new FFXIV engine is related to Luminous, which was also designed for consoles, although the next generation of them (Xbox, PS4, et cetera). As such, it is not very limited, but not for the reasons you originally theorized—rather, because it uses a much newer, customized engine, one that has years of life left in it.

I was unaware that the engine used in Agni's Philosophy was being used for ARR, or that it was even complete for that matter.
