Right, but that's the point I'm getting at. WoW has now changed because of the Add-on race and now they've integrated the needed Add-ons, for the encounters they needed to make, because of said Add-ons. Whether it's better now is debatable, but the journey was painful, and I don't want to see this happen in FF14.

Yeah, I don't doubt that if any addon went too far, they'd just shut it down.

Anyone who played WoW remember AVR? It was an addon that would put circles on the ground of where you could/couldn't stand during mechanics. Blizzard did not like this, so they modified their addon API to take out the ability to do it.

I'm sure (hope) SE can easily shut down any addon MOD that may circumvent gameplay mechanics or do something they are not supposed to.

Reminds me when wow had an addon where you could "draw" virtual stuff on the screen to help raiders do stuff (like positioning, what to dodge, add notes on peoples screens). They thought this would be bad so they removed it. It pretty much dumbed down raiding to easy mode because it pointed people where to go etc during any event (or to draw boobs and dicks all over peoples screens) ahha

When add-ons start dumbing down content, remove player interaction, and water down the need to be attentitive and react, that's when add-ons start to tread on the lame. That's why I never really been a big fan of things like DBM. Sure you still need to perform but you don't need to be as attentitive to everything else going on. I highly doubt SE will ever get on Blizzard's level and start to create content to account for things like DBM mainly because the PS3 will be add-on free.

Oh don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Rift up until they turned SL into a total grind fest that made the game feel more like a chore then a game. My main concern was the warrior joy depending on the patch version we were on compressing 12+ abilities into a simple 4-5 button rotation. I don't want to see FFXIV turn into that.

Can you really call ARR a WoW clone? I had no interest in playing WoW, how does that work?

Almost every game released these days is similar to games from 5, 10 even 20 years ago so they must all be clones. Why do millions of people buy the latest CoD game which is essential a clone of the last one etc. where the first was essentially a Halo clone which was a clone of Quake or Doom or whatever you want to fit in? Why are millions of people looking forward to GTA5 which is essentially a clone of GTA4?

Do you really think people stop buying new games just because they have similarities with a previous game they've played? People get bored of games and want something fresh, not the genre. Of course some people do get bored of genres too, but it's unlikely to be the majority.

It's been said before, but if you are expecting anything else from this game but a pretty-looking TBC/WOTLK-era Warcraft then you're most likely wasting your time here. The game is what it is. Again, that's not really a bad thing if you want that sort of thing.

To be honest, all the MMO's I've played post WoW (I've played WoW 2007-2009, and then some months with friends during summer/fall 2011) are in a sense, WoW clones, GW2/Tera/Aion to name a few play exactly the same minus the game mechanics, they all consist on grinding quests to level and then grind instances/rep to get gear.

Except in GW2 you don't even get to grind gear, you grind skins for gear, thus never getting better gear ever. Unless they changed it since I quit.

To be honest I'm both. I couldn't stand the WoW art style and ARR is so different to WoW in that respect you can hardly call it a clone. So you must say it's a clone because they both have raiding content? Fair enough, but then why call it a WoW clone and not a clone of MMOs that came before WoW? I may be wrong but I don't think WoW invented raiding.

It's the same genre, of course there's going to be similarities in the core gameplay. It seems to only be MMORPGs where people go and call every game within the same genre a clone of something else. Maybe because there's not dozens released every year, I don't know.

Fan boy is true, hence why I've had no interest in Rift, SWTOR and whatever else. But that extends to single player RPGs too, never been into any that weren't FF. Probably because I never gave them a chance. People keep going on about how good Skyrim is for example but I've never played it.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter whether people call it a WoW clone or not, if people enjoy it they'll play it. But to say anyone bored of WoW is bored of any similar game is silly. People want something fresh, not necessarily the wheel re-invented.
