No thanks. I already know that it most likely won't happen. Not going to say never because there is the outside chance that anything is possible, but I would hedge my bets on gravity failing before XIV makes it to a Microsoft or Nintendo platform.
With that said I wouldn't mind eating crow on this one as I like the idea of as many people getting the chance to play as possible. But inversely, it would mean more limits on what can be done with the game in the future. It might not be a good trade off at all.
SE is already marketing ARR with microsoft for w8, that alone makes it more likely than gravity failing in my book.
Even though 360 is already pretty much ruled out do we know how ms will handle Xbox Live in the next generation? I bet that's the issue for SE if there was one.
Somewhere in a past interview they did say it def was the issue. If things change greatly with the new box, and online games it would be a possibility. I do not see that happening before a PS4 version though.
So they revealed the final artwork, the same one that was leaked from the Msoft/windows promotion, today. Don't you think the timing coincidental?![]()
Which final artwork is this? The one for the box or collectors edition or the ones for the jobs on the ie website?
Ahh ok thanks sorry just seeing the final piece on there now! Interesting they didnt put out a SMN one. Someone over on reddit made a cool wallpaper using the art!
I gotta say, I'm pretty sure it's just arcanist/summoner and they both use the book. I suppose sch could be a second job for arcanist, but what are the odds they actually prepared 2 jobs for every existing class.
Why would Arcanist have AF? Other classes don't.
I would expect a new job for every class if they decided to go that route.
However, there's no way in hell they're going to surprise us with that by release. They would be hinting/spoiling some of that to create as much buzz as possible, not keeping a tight lid on it. FF Job nostalgia is too important to keep quiet about.
Two jobs for every class using one weapon type each? Gonna have two polearm jobs? Two fist jobs? Two more staff and wand jobs? Likely that's either not a grimoire but something similar akin to wand and staff similarities or they've decided to make grimoires something scholar will use and they'll give something else to acn/smn
Perhaps a mounted class for lance if they ever get around to making chocobos useful, that is weaker, of course, when dismounted. Or a Yari-based Samurai offshoot class. Or a pikeman.
Staff and wand is easy. Not to say that I think it'll happen (I'm more concerned with them launching a product good enough to hit their sales expectations for a few years), but it could.
They designed themselves into a corner with the weapon-job-class system as it is, multiple jobs from the same class doesn't work unless the base class is very generic.
Any 2 jobs spawned from the same class are going to share 50 levels worth of skills/traits with a few unique ones from the job. If they do this then alternate jobs from the same class would be little more than slightly different versions of one another with some minor differences in specialization.
Class-weapon exclusivity also puts a complete kibosh on any effort for multiple jobs to branch out from the same class in any significant way.
ie. What other job could GLA possibly branch off to? They've got 50 levels of hate building and damage reducing skills, 5 bonus spells/skills won't turn them into anything resembling a DRK or RDM (or a BLU or a Rune/Mystic-Fencer/Knight, etc).
Too many weapons are tied to either only 1 job (spears, katana, H2H) or to far too many (swords, daggers). They could do as people are hypothesizing with ACN-SMN-SCH and have a secondary job be a lesser known generic one from the long list of FF jobs from games past but you'd quickly find yourself inundated with limitations and redundancies (personally I think the pic is just Arcanist in concept JSE, which classes were supposed to get).
They either need to overhaul the system or we're going to need a new class for every job for every weapon.
That was what was originally planned, but recently (I believe in the most recent LIVE letter?) Yoshi P said that SMN would be in at launch.
I'm kinda hoping they don't end up making two jobs come from one class for two reasons:
1) That would mean you only level one and get both. I kind of like to level the different roles... I'm not too keen on the idea of a "bargain" class that gives you double jobs. This is definitely subjective.
2) A majority of your skills come from the class, so if both SMN and SCH come from ACN, they would already share about 75% of their spells. I would prefer jobs be more unique, and I just can't see that happening with two jobs coming from one class. Maybe it'll end up different in practice than in my head.
