From new blog. They so silly.
Personally I like the idea of getting 2 classes for 1. This potentially solves a lot of problems with raiding and party composition. Look at WoW and SWTOR. How long did it take WoW to implement dual spec. If you're a linkshell and you have 18-30 players. Your setups are pretty limited. Think about all those times you dragged along someone in FFXI that was both under geared AND on a redundant job. With this, you get potentially two party roles and a whole lot more pickup group flexibility.
But personally I don't think they'll have that kind of thing ready for launch on every class. We haven't even seen any endgame combat in action. Hopefully we'll find out at e3.
I think once they add 2 jobs to 1 class they'll have to start adding more skills to the base class (to make them the most flexible choice) and then lock individual jobs out of some of the base skills so that they both feel fairly special.
As for SCH, I know it's unlikely but I'm personally hoping for it to be a seperate class/job than Arcanist. Would totally main that job if it turned out to be a second healing job and a HoT specialist compared with WHM's direct approach. Loved the look/style of SCH in XI, but unfortunately I guess it's just arcanist considering the book![]()
Damnit wasn't here for Rocl's breakdown. Preach on broda!
This right here has been bugging me for such a long time... That gif is hilarious. I find myself staring at the gif for like 4 minutes and laughing every time I read one of his posts.
^ this! DRKs used sword/shield long before they used great swords and scythes.
Why can't they add GLD to scythes/great swords?
And why are people so goddamn antagonistic towards the system? Going as far as making up limitations that don't even exist to prove a point -_-. Let me guess: it's because the class system is a remnant of 1.0. That's all it takes for people to hate.
Is this a troll attempt or a serious question...? They can't add scythes/great swords to GLA because of how the armory system works. You change classes as soon as you change weapons. If they were to add in new weapon types they would have to be associated with brand new classes.
No one is creating limitations - they're merely pointing out the obvious limitations of said system. Not sure what's so hard to understand.
Great Swords are still swords and as far as I know, GLA is just a sword user. That one they could do (hell, they could do this with ANY weapon-type even GTA-style purple dildos but they won't because of lore concerns)... just mark ass Great Swords as GLA weapons and when you equip them you switch to it.
Easy.
The armory system doesn't have this limitation, people's minds do.
Yall seem to forget the whole Dagger problem. GLA can use daggers, but there's no Rogue class or Thief Job, and we sure as hell won't be getting it from Gladiator.
Let them use Kukris.
Spoiler: show
So why *must* they be associated with brand new classes again? Why can't they simply implement a Scythe for the Gladiator class? Why *must* the class change all of a sudden? This is what I mean when I said people are making up limitations man.
And if Scythe rubs some people the wrong way, let's talk about Great Swords then.
Daggers-type weapons can be used by both. Hell, if it's so horrible that GLA gets access to a few daggers of their own SE can simply remove GLA from those weapons and add them to the rogue class. However, I don't see why that would be necessary.

This. I was going to say something about a greatsword requirement, but that was only in XI. Cecil didn't use a greatsword in the original, only in the remake (and still had the strength to carry around a buckler in his off-hand). Gafgarian absolutely used a standard one-hander, and even knight swords specifically were one-handed.
There really isn't anything stopping the man who is bringing back fucking Thunder dragons from IV and Crystal Tower from III from bringing the classic dark knight equipment to the fold.
Edit: Well it is Hyan asking all this, so color me unsurprised. Go back and play the original, Hyan. IMO, Dragoons should still have shields, as Kain and Ricard did, but whatever - spilled milk.
lol what are you even talking about.. idc what weapon cecil used in the original. I am talking about the class system's apparent "limitations" in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Make DRK a sword job, or a scythe job, or a great katana job, I could not give less of a damn >_>;

Whatever they're fighting looks awesome.
The game looks like shit though. I don't remember it running any good either. ><
