Reasons to believe it's Scholar and it's a new job.
The Promotional artwork shows a character in what looks like FFXI Scholar AF
It is accompanied by all jobs, no classes are in that wheel.
Classes don't get AF.
Community manager hinted that the character in a "mortar board" is "..." which implies to me that it's something we're already familiar with.
Other data that breaks NDA so I will not mention it here.

Reasons to believe it's not Scholar or that it's not a new job.
It's holding a book. Not even necessarily a grimoire.

The "scholar" is clearly holding a grimoire. It's either class specific equipment (teasing AF for the classes), or another job, but either way it's definitely not going to come with it's own new base class, and it's not a new class of its own.

I have more reason to believe they would have a new, unannounced class to match a new, unannounced job than entirely new mechanic for job changing. Occam's Razor.

What I was trying to point out was that your only evidence is that she's holding a book. A book is not necessarily always going to be a grimoire. There could very possibly be a new "textbook" piece of equipment.

A good example of how these similarities already exist is:

Wand/Radical <-> Scepter/Brand/Cudgel
Cane/Crook <-> Staff.

It would not be too far of a stretch for another two DoM classes to have similar looking weapoons.

Fair enough, I wouldn't mind a new mechanic for job changing, but I would hope if they're adding more magic classes, they could be a bit more creative than reusing books/staves/wands again. I miss the idea of ye olde 1.0 arcanist magic guns. They could also use orbs, dolls/fetishes (like Lulu), bells, magic gloves, hammers, etc.

I would imagine that ACN and whatever new class will have their books as a base weapon and branch out. There seems to be room for a little diversity within each style of fighting.

I would like to see a "magic gun" class as well. Maybe Red Mage? I'd love to see a RDM dual wielding a rapier and a one handed gun.

More than anything though, we need a Rogue style class/job. This and TERA are the only MMOs I've seen launch without some kind of rogue.

The thing is they did indeed state that major changes to skills as well as the levels they are attained is coming to phase 3, this in itself can lend to a restructuring of the class system to allow for multiple paths even more.

Why are they teasing a new job without a new class in sight then? And why is this new job holding a weapon that looks identical to the concept arts of the various grimoires? Arcanist and Summoner were announced (and leaked) at the same time, you'd think that if a new class was coming with a job attached we'd have some sort of clue at this point or maybe a leak from the Beta.
Even the argument of CNJ and THM sharing weapons doesn't make much sense now as it's a remnant of 1.0 and ACN was supposed to get another kind of staff but Yoshi P. changed that into books.
Yoshida has been talking about this concept of 1 class> 2 jobs since the very beginning when discussing the mechanic and many examples have been mentioned in the past 2 years by the devs, it's not something that was never mentioned before.

There's no hints of a new class coming but we have hints pointing at a new job with grimoires as weapon. Neither is confirmed but one is simply more likely than the other.

Well it's obvious if you think about it for more than like 5 minutes. She was hired by an unknown Ishgard nobleman, yeah right, who is the only person we know who wants Allagan runestones and primal-related objects? Rowena's employer and Nael van Darnus. It's like, rly bro? The relic seals are said to offer protection from the respective primal, and the Allagan runestones were important in order to control the Lunar transmitter to bring down Dalamud. Hell, there were like four quests showcasing Nael and Gaius looking all o'er Eorzea for runestones, meanwhile us Adventurers are poppin' chests, getting stones, and giving 'em to this bitch. This bitch is getting richer too--well I mean, she starts taking off all her clothes and starts wearing only jewelry. I just took to that to mean she doesn't have to wear peasant clothes and can just wear red viper coral rings and bracelets.

I guess saying she's a spy is a bit much, she didn't really know her employer either I guess. The point being that she (and us adventurers who braved the perils of Legacy and the Battle of Cartenau) hastened the summoning of Bahamut/coming of the Umbral Era by advancing Nael van Darnus' schemes.

So not only were adventurers fucking up by slaying primals and redirecting their aether towards Dalamud, they were giving Darnus the materials he needed to construct his crazy Castrum Novum schemes.

I think it's more likely that ACN is wearing scholar-ish "JSE" (CSE) and the other classes will be also be getting their own CSE.

It seems unlikely to me that SE would introduce a new class (which is a HUGE deal) and completely ignore it in the promotional materials, which would be the case if SCH is a new job. Seems to make more sense to show off ACN and SMN, and they can't really show off ACN without some sort of new iconic gear, so SCH gear gets repurposed.

Phase 3 on the 7th/8th makes the most sense (if they stick with weekend scheduling). You'd think they will want it up and running smoothly before E3 starts.

The 30th letter will probably just be about phase 3/4 and more details on stuff like housing, guildhests and other such content. They'll keep the juicy stuff like the crystal tower and Bahamut labyrinth for E3. Most likely that's when we'll see more of Coerthas and Mor Dhona too, we've seen barely anything from there yet. Tour of Eorzea part 3 maybe?
