By the time the destrier beret and chocobo shirt was released, FFXI was dead under lv75, lol.

For the record, people had the same idea about the Onion Helm and that looked fucking retarded and people still went haam (ham? HAM? i need someone to clarify stat) for it, myself included. Thank god /displayhead appeared near the end of days.

Minions are strictly cosmetic. That's their purpose. Of course people who want minions want every minion. That's the kind of pokemon mentality the system encourages.

Two new mount skins. Some worthless helmets. A few pets. Nothing gamebreaking, but still fun little bonuses. Cosmetic in their entirety, unless the Coeurl runs faster or the Behemoth barding makes your Chocobo a bamf in more than looks.

Also anyone who doesn't appreciate a good art book is dummy.

I'm still mad I never got my Crab Scepter in XI, and I will still hit anyone who wears a Tidal Talisman in public in the face. (The actual jewelry that you paid like $100 USD for)

What I'm saying, since I think my point got away from me, is that people always go a little crazy for vanity items. That's all you can/should really offer for these bonuses. You can't deny some players good gear because they didn't preorder the game four years before it came out. I guess I'm arguing rewarding people with worthless things is better than denying people worthwhile things.

I wanna state again that the most useful things in XI's vast repertoire of exclusive items are cosmetic or minute benefits. Like, having a fast forward button to get past the most worthless part of the game. (Oh man, I ran to Gusgen/Abyssea Maw 12% faster) Sometimes your mog house plays a stinted tune. Or you pay a fuckton of money for an ugly necklace and a 3-day recharge teleport service (which, in coming years would be slowly and then quickly obsoleted)

Edit: I'd also much rather blow money on items I know are useless/cosmetic than blow money and watch those items become useless/cosmetic.

SE is obviously quite aware that if you are a 1.0 CE Legacy player, the only way to get these items is to pay them $30. That's basically all you're getting for your $30, unless you're referring to what is essentially an extra Buddy Pass. 1.0 CE Legacy players already have the game and will already get early access; the only real reason to pre-order this game that you will receive early for free anyway is for the DLC items. To wit: the players in this thread who want to pre-order and then cancel just so they can get the code.

I'm still annoyed that CE owners got the ugly, useless Onion Helm while SE owners got the useful, stylish goggles.

lol, also to the guy who said buddy passes didn't work... yeah they did.
I played XIV for free for a year off a buddy pass. I didn't pay a single dime for the game til it went p2p and got my legacy stuff.
