Honestly I like that idea. Classes having a general way of playing, with jobs focusing on different aspects(SMN = pets/dmg, SCH = heal). Makes jobs seem more like a specialization than it's own thing, which is how I've always seen it.
Theorycraft ahead!
The tricky part is reconciling the following:
Classes:
Musketeer
Jobs:
Thief
Ninja
Samurai
Corsair and/or Gambler
Easiest solution would be something like:
Musketeer -> Corsair, Thief
Hunter/Shikari -> Ninja, Samurai
Granted, a tough sell to have Thief without daggers. But there's a lot of flexibility on Thief and Ninja (Musketeer basically has to be Corsair at some point, given Limsa).
Yeah I was basically hoping jobs would effectively be the talent trees of other MMOs. Would be nice to have some customisation up in there to really sync the two up but not expecting much in that aspect.
I think they really need to work on getting those second round of jobs out the door so that every class has the option of a very desirable party choice, be it tank, healer or whatever. Basically all the melee jobs at present could be given a tank job, and the mages could all have a healing option at the very least.
This is almost exactly what I suggested right before 1.21 came out. I thought SE would go the route of CNJ|BLM, THM|WHM, so you could switch to either a damage or healing role based on whether you went as your class or your job. But this was drowned out in the chants of "class identity," and the mage jobs basically became a same-but-better version of the classes.
Now that the class identity beast has been slain and the playerbase has gotten a solid helping of what a game with only one healer role is like, I'd love to see SE implement dual roles branching off of each class.
We used THM on Ifrit Extreme as well as several of our Legatus (Hard) kills.
how many days before the last phase started did they send out the mails to download the client ?
Think a bit outside the box. Take Ranger off Archer.
ARC->BRD, Sniper
MSK->COR, RNG
Samurai will be a tough one. I don't see that as being anything other than 1-to-1, unless SAM comes off ARC or LNC, which just seems like sacrilege.
Truthfully I think there will be a greatsword class and SAM will come off that. THF and NIN will both be dual-dagger and come off a common class, if not NIN coming from THF.
They already said that new weapons would be introduced through new classes. Following that: samurai will come from a gkatana class, and ninja from a katana class. If they can't think of two jobs for each of those weapons then that's a problem they'll have to solve.
I think they'd open up a lot more options for 2jobs 1class if they tied both the two-handed and one-handed weapon to the same class. IE, GLA gets blades and two handed blades, LNC gets 2h polearms and 1h polearms, MRD gets 2h axes and 1h axes, <new class> gets katanas and gkatanas, etc.
Now they could have a short lance+shield job, a dual wielding axe job, etc. tied to existing classes, and samurai/ninja can come from the same class.
That said I actually do not believe we'll have 2 jobs 1 class, unless the job system is completely different or they have another skill rehaul ready for later. I guess I could write up a longer post later if this thread is still talking about jobs, but I'd really wait to see what happens when you equip a job crystal in ARR before making assumptions.
They could just make Sams and Nins classes that have no jobs, because they came from Glorious Nipon, and thus, have no superior!
Personally don't see how dancer would come off PGL, since dancers are associated with daggers normally. I could see a dagger class branching to THF and dancer though. Puppetmaster seems much more fitting for H2H as a branch off PGL, since we already have mammets that look like automatons revamped, and one is even next to a PGL in the guilds front entryway. At least, I think that mithra was a PGL. As an added bonus, it would be a second pet class, and PUP is a flexible job when it comes to roles, letting them fill in whatever gaps the dev team feels there is in the job lineup.
Better yet, pups use a different type of H2H than MNKs do. They couldn't use knuckles or katers, but specialized in sainti, and last I looked there weren't any of that type of h2h in FFXIV yet. PGL is also more evasion heavy than other classes, another trait it shares in common with PUP.
It seems to me if they ever put in a second PGL job, PUP would be the job that fits the best with it.
And I could see SAM branching off LNC, since it has store tp and tp restoration moves as is. Plus, naginata and yari were common traditional samurai weapons, both different types of polearms.
Scout/Genin > Ninja
Ronin > Samurai
Shit, I used H2H early levels DNC/MNK... Well at least til I could dual wield daggers. Thing is Pugilist becoming Dancer would actually fit in Uldah lorewise, perhaps making them specialize in more bladed H2H like katars and such, maybe even razor fans.
PUP could fit too, perhaps gaining a mammet from the Alchemist's guild for use in "field testing," or whatnot.
And yeah SAM could use bladed polearms, but could you imagine the shitstorm? That'd be glorious.
Wasnt pup and dnc FFXI specific jobs? I dont know what SE would do but I would think it would be smart to add jobs that are less obscure and are more popular. while pup and dnc do have their fan followings a person with little FF knowledge wouldnt recognize those jobs. I was actually a little surprised at SCH, but SCH has appeared in other FF's. I think job speculation is kinda pointless, even if you might be right (like everyone arguing over scholar job wheel) okay, you were right. 2 internets for your good guess.
I mean I know we dont have much to go on people and I guess speculation is fine. Just dont get worked up over it.
And does anyone else hope, pray and wish they dont ad some super gay job like DNC. And I am a real live homosexual. Im legit gay and DNC is not appealing to me. (the art and look, not the gameplay or how awesome it was in FFXI)
Also I loved pup in FFXI and wouldnt mind seeing it in FFXIV but I personally think they should come out with a few more "classic" jobs first. Such as Red Mage (done right or at least better then XI)
What? lol
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Dancer
That's more FFs than SCH has been in. I mean I agree that RDM is more classic, but DNC isn't exactly obscure.
Dancer has certainly been in previous FFs, the first being 5 (don't diss on Bartz's sexy dance getup) and then of course Mog in 6. It's also a job that was used in Tactics and warriors of light. Pup I don't believe has appeared anywhere else, it doesn't really make sense if you are already controlling a group of characters that they would really need to have a pet.
Well fair enough about dnc being in other FFs. but after reading that page I think DNC is obscure and was kind of a mix of things (a few didnt even call it dancer)
But I digress, Dancer should still be pretty low on the totem pole of jobs though.
Also its funny the FFs I played the least is V and VI. and I didnt think of X-2s songstress.
That's the same for all jobs - the wiki lists direct and indirect appearances. This is understandable as some FFs don't even have job systems, but they still have iconic job appearances (Vivi being a BLM or Yuna being a Summoner, etc.).
For example, look at RDM's entry: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Red_Mage. There are like 5 games where only the armor appeared, or not even that (just a combination of black and white magic).
I'm not going to argue about what "counts" and what doesn't, just pointing out that what you said is not exclusive to the DNC page.
I personally love Dancer concept in about every way they've ever implemented it. It would be a worthwhile healing class to pursue but if they do tie it into daggers I think we'd all agree THF should see the light of day before DNC. If they go with H2H for it I think they ought to roll that out asap.
Thats interesting, it being in the first few FFs really got it popular.
Yeah Thf before Dnc. And gameplay wise I dont mind dnc, in XI I thought they were pretty gay looking and animations though.
