Well, no need to move from Sargatanas for me and my LS, cool.
So wait, there's only one Legacy server in the EU?

Yep. Ragnarok.
This may have been said before, but I find it interested that they did not give city and state of where these servers are. Is there a way we can find out via IP or something? I want to be on the server that is the closest to KY.
Yeah the data centers are going to be in California. I'm pretty sure they stated that specifically but I'll have to find a quote.
They probably put all the servers in the offices they cleared out when they laid off staff in Los Angeles.
Are all Legacies keeping their characters? I have a character with a few lv50 crafts and a decent amount of money, but I'm honestly thinking life will be easier starting on a non-legacy server with the knowledge from XI / XIV 1.0 that I have now.
It will probably be harder to do end-game stuff for a while, but more opportunities to corner markets / be the first groups to clear shit.
Personally, I have next to no interest to starting on a legacy server.
Anyone with a character since 1.0 launch gets to keep their characters. Something to that idea. Although I can't see the point of even considering keeping it if you quit playing the game before the first major patch.
Starting on a legacy server has its advantages too. Stuff will be cheaper on the markets because of the crafting competition. Expect to be ripped off for everything on new player servers. I remember NQ bows costing over 1 million gil at the start of 1.0 because only 2 or 3 people could make them for the fastest levelers. This was a lot of money in the first couple of months too. If you can be this guy getting rich then new players are for you, otherwise you may well be better off on legacy servers.
I think part of that in v1 was the inability to find stuff you wanted very easily, both to make gear and to find the gear you want. It shouldn't be as bad in ARR. Will stuff be overpriced at first? Sure, but not by near as much.
I guess the shitty crafting system where you had to perform like 30 synths to make 1 weapon didn't help either.
Legacy servers are more likely to offer stable economies.
Have they stated whether every new server is for new players only, or will existing characters have the option to transfer to some subset of the new servers? I know they were going to create some servers exclusively for new players, but it sounded like that would be some small portion of the server farm, not ~2/3rds of the total.
I'm currently on Durandal, and our LS is still deciding which server to go to.
I know I'm going to Gungnir, because LANCES.
Have fun with the JP's Lucavi.
That's the point.
Veteran players are going to be the ones DOING the ripping off.
Remember how easy it was to make a relic if you sat around a profited from the ~2005 christmas inflation and sat on the gil for 1-2 years? Taking advantage of stupid / new players is like the #1 way to get the best shit in an MMO. The servers I was on, particularly on the JP side of things, the best geared players weren't the majority of people camping Fafnir / Khimaira every day (even though I did it, all the time), they were the original JP / NA crafters who just sat on money.
Starting in 2007 it was 10,000x easier to make 20 mil and show up and buy an E body from someone than it was to spend 6 months trying to get points in a LS for one. Not saying FFXIV will necessarily be 1:1 with this, but I wouldn't bet against methods that have worked since the beginning of online games. I'm starting from scratch with my roommate and we're both going to focus on crafting / DoL jobs mainly, and EXPing DoW jobs secondary.
Dunno about you guys, but I'm not getting any younger, lol. Don't have the time to sink into 4-5 hour raids 5 nights a week at set times with attendance policies and shit.
