Anyway, FFXI was a pretty mediocre EQ clone... the job system was great though.
We all know that back in the day FFXI endgame was garbage and that didn't really change til after ToAU.

It was a poorly designed MMO from the start yet I still wouldn't call it shit since XIV 1.0 proved just how shitty an MMO can be by managing to be much worse even though it was released almost a decade later.

I'd still call it shit, but by a matter of degree if I call FFXI shit than FFXIV is worse than shit which it is. Because no matter how shitty FFXI is at least it had fuckloads of charm which XIV never had. Maybe shit is a strong word, since the only thing I think are truly shit all have to do with game play. If you think a good story, interesting setting and characters make up for terrible game play then you probably don't think FFXI is shit (or as shit). But even if Lost Odyssey has an awesome story and I still think it's a shit game because who needs to play a 1990 RPG with modern graphics? The only twist that game had was having to press a button for better basic attacks, and who hasn't played FFVIII? Or Shadow Hearts? I hate shit games. But sometimes I love them. Whatever.

Well, I guess to put it shortly, comparisons will always be made because FFXI and FFXIV are the only MMOs of the Final Fantasy franchise. That's a pretty big direct comparison right there.

I also like to think it's because people just go a bit stir crazy when there's nothing about the current game to talk about. Lack of information will always lead to a meandering of the original topic if there's nothing to talk about.

Some people just enjoy a heated, confrontational debate too! Possibly, haha.

Thankfully, Phase 3 is coming soon so... maybe then this pro/con, this game vs that game debate will have quieted down for a while. I'd like to hope so anyway.

Something like Goldeneye on the N64. Awesome at the time but it has not aged well at all. Actually change that to any game on the N64, they all look horrible and that joypad was horrendous.
