Maybe it just feels more difficult, idk. You just feel so helpless with nothing to heal with but Bloodbath and potions on long ass recast timers.

When there's like 6 people doing a FATE that has a big boss monster and lose because they're 6 MRD and no one can heal the person with hate so people just die 1 by 1 it's just lame. I understand wanting to ease people in more simply by focusing on 1 job at the start but for people that don't need their hands held quite so much it's kind of annoying. Even if I had never played XIV I'd wanna try out multiple jobs from the start, that's kind of one of the selling points of XI/XIV.

Ultimately it's not really relevant to me since I don't plan on starting a new char, just my take on it.

PC with controller set up is master race for sure.

Edit: How do you turn off other's damage in the 3D battle text?

I have not looked for that yet but let me know if you find it I want to disable it as well. And 100% agree PC + Controller is the stuff.

Why wouldn't it? Its an inferior console running on 512 MEGS OF RAM, SPLIT IN HALF. Come on, man. Did you think it'd run like your god-rig?

PS3 limitations. I'm surprised the game plays as well as it does on PC with the PS3 holding production and design back.

Playing this game with a gamepad is one of the worst experiences of my life. It is akin to kidney stones.

I was considering getting a gaming mouse like a Razer Naga or something similar a few months ago, but having tried out the controller setup it's kind of hard to justify it. It's pretty nice.

Trying to open my map, and flip through different zones to find where my quest target is, is a pain in the ass with the controller. With my mouse I can click the links without having to toggle through them and accidentally scroll past and blah blah blah controllers are stupid for this kind of game.

You literally just click the same spot with the controller and select which map to look at, unless your trying to view the map with the controller while in mouse mode which would be retarded.

I was talking about on PS3. I was going through my quest log on the right, so I gotta toggle through all my options until I get to my quest log. I could have just clicked that with my mouse on PC.

Now I've got the quest up that I want to map the target. Gotta toggle through that quest's information til I get to the map button. Again, could have just clicked the map button.

Then it brings up my map. For some reason, on both ps3 and pc, it brings up all of la noscea instead of the local area where the quest is. So I have to toggle through all of the areas in la noscea with the controller, Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks, then Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks, then Middle La Noscea, then finally Lower La Noscea where I want to check. With my mouse I could have went straight to Lower La Noscea.

It's a pain in the ass and a lot of extra work when the mouse is obviously, inarguably superior.

Overall you're right (I just disagree with it being hard) especially about FATE and new people wanting to play together needing to put in like 15 levels just to meet unless they happen to pick similar classes. Yeah, they're trying to teach people shit and they do a good job of that but it is inconvenient to have to wait until 15 to meet people. I've never agreed with locking critical transportation in order to meet up.

I know right? Shit's amazing. I can't even imagine playing this on KB/M anymore. My life is complete. Except for the map, but that can be fixed.

The map is the only real complaint I have about controls that is pretty easily fixed if enough feedback or bugs are put in about it. Really annoying I can't scroll my map when moving, I don't care about which way my camera rotates if I'm looking at a fucking map.

Oh, for that if you just press R1 it'll open the hotlink on the map (when opened from the journal, pressing R1 takes you straight to the quest area). They could explain that a lot better, appropriate feedback would be to inform people of the feature, because I thought it sucked until I saw the R1 tooltip.

Ha, I went ahead and did it. I saw a few names that I recognized too...nostalgia overload! Also, they continue to improve the game. I'm trying not to sink my teeth in too deep so that I can enjoy the game at launch without feeling like I've already done most of the content.

A shortcut if I'm understanding you right, is when looking at the quest log on the right side of the screen instead of clicking on the quest itself, it opening up the quest journal then clicking to the map button you can just click on the actual objective listed right below the name of the quest on the right to be taken directly to the mapped location. It does kind of suck when you are not in the same area as the objective and the map opens to the world overview map. I also agree with elcura about not being able to scroll on the map while moving, fuck that we have autorun let me scroll at the same time!

I was getting stuck with finding the local map of the objective on PS3. It wasn't until I pressed R1 that it stopped going to the region map of the quest and to the actual local map. Maybe that is what you are encountering?

sorry this is probably answered somewhere:
at what point in the beta, if at all, do we get to keep the character into release?

Phase 4, barring any critical bugs.
