Gear isn't an issue; I'll be making my own gear that the dungeons aren't providing me (I fucking love running dungeons for loot). Crafting mats, however, are going to be the big issue, as chances are I won't have a fightin' job high enough level to gather the mats safely that I'll be needing.
If you're talking about leveling a craft, either level a DoL that ties in nicely or just let some leves stack up and level that way.

I sure as hell didn't level every craft to 50 by paying out of pocket for mats.

Local leves don't give free mats anymore. I mean it's still better to level through leves as far as I'm aware, but it's not free like in 1.0.

Doesn't really change the point of what you're saying, just mentioning it.

^ Thanks for that. That's good to know. I think I have something like a 36 weaver or something.

Yea I remember them mentioning that, but 90% of my craft leveling was leve crafts and completion reward exp (the other 10% was Ifrit, ha -_-). Most of the item rewards were either sold or tossed onto a retainer because I just couldn't be bothered to find specific recipes and go around collecting mats.

Screw having to collect a bunch of mats and target a certain craft myself, let the NPCs do that for me.

Considering the small amount of drops I did collect, over about 18 levels on Pugalist (one dungeon run netting me nothing but 1g drops...), I think the mats are going to be the bigger issue long term. Also, crafting gear isn't generally useful unless it's looks or provides an entry into end game dungeons. ARR has the interesting problem that they only have quests, for 3 classes so after that, all classes will either need to NPC buy their gear, and then use crafted when that falls off, if it falls off. DoH/L have the hardest problem because I didn't see any gear option for them at all, and they can't complete the other quests unless you can class switch around and feed one class somewhat up that way. I'm thinking Levequest are going to be the way to level DoH but that doesn't' really help with gear.

You'll have 10% of the gil you had. NPC prices will be lower but they did this in part to reduce inflation overall. NPC prices won't be exactly to scale with the gil cut but so much has changed it's hard to equate 1.0 and 2.0 price and value.
Gil will be a big part of a new economy, but as stated, the crafting part will be what sets things apart, and the many of the crafters that will be there.
You won't be making really any money crafting NQ gear, and vs people with every craft Lv 50, able to mix and match abilities for optimum HQ gear chruning factor mode and the resources both in materials, gil, and crystals. You won't be making money, or to even break even trying to compete vs them.

On a new server, at least you can have chance to compete, and ways to make gil, in a market that is basically nonexistant, and as people sell off stuff they won't use to make gil to buy new NQ gear, or HQ gear from crafters or to buy resources to do crafting.

I know myself, I stock piled a craplaod of stuff, to do my crafting so I could craft for days without worry while I lvled. I'm sure people that were R50 everything have done the same to make gil endlessly.

New players on a legacy server won't be making high level gear much less trying for HQs for a long, long, long time.

Even then that's only 1 facet to the economy, hardly the only way to make money.

edit: also I'm not sure why HQs are such a big deal, HQs were never valuable because of their stats it was only because of the additional chance to multi meld. Now what gear isn't lost anymore on failed attempts people just aren't going to be buying much gear.

NQs will still make money anyway from people needing materia.

Also, housing is likely to eat up a big chunk of that gil as well.

Too bad it will be a while before housing isn't Free Company ONRY... though I'm sure a Legacy-based Free Company or two will try to pool their gil together and get the biggest plot in Ul'dah. I'm really curious what the cost of it will be since they keep emphasizing that it's going to be exorbitant.

Is teleport costing gil a beta thing only or is that how it will be on release? If so seems like that would be what eats everyone's gil without people realizing it. Though I'm interested to see just how much gil housing eats as well.

HQ is above the pink instance gear, and below the green... iconish thing in terms of quality (currently the best there is). Considering there is a lot more control and ABILITY to make HQ in 2.0 (I only did woodworking and Leatherworking) where as you can mix and match abilities to greatly up your HQ chances (well more then nonexistant) for crafts lower then your level, it'll be something people will be working towards to make good money off of. Like I mentioned earlier, I could make about 1 out of 10 HQ items on things only a few levels from my current craft level, with some luck/patience etc etc It only took me about 4 days (at about 16-20 hours per day) to get near lv 25 leatherworking and 15 or so wood working (and about 10 harvesting because I needed crystals).

It will also probably be easier for people to make materia (I'm not 100% sure on materia as I didn't stay in 1.0) but I presume you have to get gear -> use it long enough to be 100% spirit bound then it can be changed to materia? If so, wouldn't it be more or less... easier to spam instances -> use the gear that drops, turn into materia -> do another instance repeat... pretty much making going out and buying from town or a nPC, NQ gear? O_o

Yes housing will cost a lot, the thing is, that is one my concerns is actually "making money". You can do quests sure, but you won't have much to do (at current state of the game) after you go through each nation once, crafting NQ won't be very profitable, lvling a craft will be costly, other then farming materials to sell to crafters, and daily quests, and fates and leve,s where would you be making the thousands...? tens of thousands? hundreds of thousands? to craft and or buy a house or better yet millions or tens of millions)

I made most my 30million (probably like near 20mil of it for a good several weeks), starting on a "fresh" 1.0 server, selling subligars... no economy , barely any crafters etc. Subligars were only sold in uldah by a NPC, so I sold in gridania where they aren't sold. I don't think it will be any worse on a new server in 2.0

All 1.0 characters can be transferred off Legacy servers right?

You can level crafts for free.

Also spiritbonding takes longer in 2.0 than it did in 1.0.

Not for like a year maybe. If you're using your old character, you're stuck on a Legacy server until they allow transfers to the fresh servers. New characters have the option to create on any server.

Yoshi-P said, regarding RMT, that the game is specifically designed so that the lower levels can't make you a lot of money, so what we have access to currently won't give us a good idea about the type of money we can make doing the lvl 50 content. Given current game design and what he's said in the past, I really don't think that gear is going to be the best way to make money. As you said, you can run dungeons for better gear/more materia slots (does more slots mean more materia created from soulbound gear?) and free gear or NPC gear to soulbind with.

unless they changed crafting in Phase3 (as I havne't done it yet), phase 2, crafting costed money, because they don't give you materials, you go get them yourself and make it yourself and turn in what you craft.

This includes craft quests, and craft leve's... it all cost money + your own materials (unless the quest gave you some required "part" to do a craft)

only real free craft exp you get, is from craft log "first time crafting" but unlike the hunting log, there is no massive bonus for finishing everything in a craft log.

again, this is only from phase 2, I ahve not tried crafting yet in phase 3, but I don't think it can be too different.

6 months (more or less) according to yoshi-p for people from legacy servers transferring to the new servers

    Whoa, wait, what?

Either there's a misunderstanding, the exp reward for crafting leves is massive, or I'm extremely glad I have crafts already leveled.

They don't give you the materials to craft like 1.0 did, you have to provide them. Although when asked about the craft leve rewards, Yoshi said they might give out materials instead of gears.

Wow, I certainly hope they adjusted craft exp and made the completion bonus for leves quite significant.
