You can, which I ended up doing because I couldn't dumb down what I was thinking enough.

The worst part is I feel as if they've never set up a fucking board before. They should know a character limit isn't going to do anything to someone who cares enough to edit. They should also know where their problems lie. General fucking Discussion. The rest are kind of important.

That's nuts. Might as well have free reign focusing on getting 1 job through the story missions and then just jumping all the others up to 15. That is IF they keep it in the regular release and not just have it that way for Beta

I'm not sure what makes you think this will be available in release, lol It's just a beta thing.

    It is a beta thing.

I went ahead and left feedback concerning their silly limitations, like or comment if you agree. Seeing that crap has made me ponder the point of this weekends test. I stayed up waiting on those damned forum timers. Thoroughly over the shit and this is the first time I've tried to post in quite a while. I'm pretty sure no one bothers to check the less used forums, so I dropped it in GD as well. This really shouldn't continue.

Anyone else finding it very hard to leave feedback and bug reports with that hour long CD+750 character limit they insist we need on every forum?

I went to post a bug report covering several things, then went to make my post concerning repairs still being unnecessarily clunky. Lo and behold, an hour wait. When I do get to post I can't post everything I want to have my point thoroughly explained. How do you assist with feedback and reports if they don't let you give them lol?
This literally made me stop posting feedback for a while.

Blame all the people spam posting on forums (think when they had no limit it was like a 10,000:10 NA vs JP posts ratio before?)

it sucks that the forums limit posts because it limits feedback

but it's great because have you read some of the shit there? I don't think I could handle unlimited posting by some of those idiots.

After reading that lengthy article by Yoshi-P on the forums, I found myself agreeing with alot of his points.

    However....
As a numbered title in the FINAL FANTASY series, we are striving to make FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn a game that operates steadily for a long time, and one where we provide a steady flow of updates and content to you all. With that said, when we made the decision to build A Realm Reborn from the ground up while working on updates for 1.0, the first thing we decided was to eliminate action elements as best as possible.

With the advent of stronger internet connections, recent MMORPGs have come to be able to have defensive and evasive skills similar to offline stand alone games. Despite this, I feel that this does not fit with our customers who play FINAL FANTASY online, and I would like to have everyone play this game steadily for as long of a time as possible, which is why we’ve eliminated action elements to the best of our ability.
His whole take on action elements in ARR has me at odds. Guess we're going to have to see how endgame content fares with this philosophy in mind.

That's why actions such as parry or block are done automatically, and not by pressing a button when an enemy is going to hit you. Also, enemy abilities have a charge up time which give enough time for players to either stun or move away. I think so far his take on those action elements have been quite good.

I want to destroy the official forums.

I want to march right up to the server they are located on, wipe the data, and put a fresh forum back on the web with a "U mad, bro?" for certain people's accounts... like Rokien and the other simpletons who cannot think past "All the weaponskills have similar damage output! It's just a spamfest!" and fail to see their own lack of creativity. o_O

This weekend was glorious. I loved Paladin, Warrior, and White Mage, as I expected, but Dragoon was far beyond my expectations.

Then I started playing Black Mage, and after I went to sleep, I dreamed of fireballs and exploding glaciers. o.o I do not think I could be more pleased with the Job changes...

( '-') Now, if only we can destroy the OF...

He's right though, action games may simply not be the style people want to play. Since any good action game kinda alienates people without good reflexes, coordination and dexterity making one for an FF MMO would certainly not keep people around long just because they would suck at playing it. And I'd rather not have a dumbed down action game because we get enough of those as single player games. Classically FF has never been much for action and even FFXV started off as a spin-off title and not a main-line one.

While I am curious to see what Yoshi would do with a game with more involved action elements, it's definitely not a great move for now.

Whats your ideal situation or game system, then, Elcura, for a FF title that needs to capture around 200k modern subscribers?

My ideal game system alienates people who don't know what the fuck an action game is or what reactions and situational awareness means. My ideal game system is like KH style/flash meets the solidarity of Bayonetta and the customization/flow of DMC3. Maybe that's what FFXV will be? LOL no, I kid, since I doubt Nomura could ever make anything on the same level as P+ when it comes to action. But a step above KH would be nice if only to see what he's learned for KH3.

Wait, what were we talking about again? Oh right, alienating people and making impossible games.

Yeah, you keep it simple so you can add layers of complexity and difficulty on top for seasoned players but keep it simple at the core for new players. Learning curves, etc. What they have is a good base to create some interesting fights, and while each fight has one interesting mechanic I haven't seen a fight with multiple outside of Ifrit. I suspect that'll come later with updated Primals and raids (or whatever the fuck you wanna call them), crystal tower and whatever.

Hmm. Man, I thought you were totally going the other way with that. Something akin to a return to XI's "jiggle in place until its your turn to do something" engine.

If nothing else, I'd hoped to have given the impression of someone who likes playing games. I don't mind simple and I don't mind slow, but I don't want them together. Talking strictly end-game here, if the combat is slow it has to be complex and involving, thought provoking and shit. If the combat is simple, it has to be fast, clear and active. If the combat starts out slow, I always hope for it to get faster and if the combat starts out simple, I always hope it gets more complex.

Personally I don't really care for the pace of combat in ARR, there's so much button mashing everything feels drowned out, nothing feels like it has any weight to it.

The ADD/OCD cycling of the same skills every 10 seconds just smacks of being a manual auto-attack to me. The actual pace of combat in the latter parts of 1.0 in terms of how often you used skills was pretty close to ideal imo for some jobs.

ex. Tanking on PLD required cycling a number of different skills of varying functions and recast lengths (SW was 1 min, savage blade combo was 30s, while flat blade combo was available every 10s for normal use) with a healthy number of reaction skills to use when needed (shield bash stun & aegis boon for when a big attack was coming, regular use of outmaneuver and....that other skill that gave 100% block rate, name escapes me) with Holy Succor to use as needed. You also had Riot blade>Halone as the wild card combo to pull out when you lost hate and could even be started at range.

FFXI was way too slow and repetitive, but ARR is just way too fast and repetitive. Button mashing is fine for when you're doing something complex but I find having to button mash the same cycle over and over constantly is just as bland and tiresome to boot. It's past the happy medium that I felt 1.0 was close to (for some classes) purely in terms of how many skills you used and how often.

A level 3 combo WS had some weight to it, heft, you saw yourself doing it clearly and so did the other party members, it had significance ("he just used SW I can nuke a bit more") now a level 3 combo is just something that happens every 10s, yea it does something but it's about as significant and common as an auto-attack. The fact that you can't see shit during combat only worsens this (either SE or some 3rd party needs to make effects that aren't so flashy, you really can't see a damn thing).

The fast + simple combo (to use Elcura's example) doesn't jive with me, it feels like it's trying to hide the lack of depth by substituting it with an abundance of arbitrary input demand.

This sums up my feelings exactly, and is stated 10x better than I could have done. I'm not going to shout from the hilltops that SE needs to change their entire battle design, but this is not what I would consider the most ideal paradigm. I can min/max with the best of them, but I don't want the "skill" to be how quickly you can input your next command every 1.5-2 seconds.

We are comparing ARR's lvl50 combat to 1.xx's lvl50 combat here, right?

Just checking - since ARR's low level combat is miles ahead of the tediousness of 1.xx's low level combat at least.
