From my experiences so far... I've gotta agree with SD on this one.
You're all making mountains out of anthills.
Also saying "You can make a script to do the job that a pug/mnk does" isn't really addressing the issue of a person performing it. We have a script at work that can handle 1000 loans in an hour but a person can only do maybe 200 (300 with some pretty intelligent hotkeys). I'd be asinine if I told someone at work "Well my job requires way more work because I manually do this when you have an automaton that handles everything!" No shit?!
And this Bard MP/Song business is getting out of hand. I'm waiting on hearing some straight up honest group feedback on how there were wipes and fails because the bard couldn't keep up the songs completely. With it being 100% the bard's fault and not some other schmuck.
I can't find it on the Beta forums, are they planning on fixing /tell + /ls chat when bound by duty or are they telling us to go fuck ourselves?
http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Tes...500#post819500 Latest info on this.
That's pretty shit. It's the biggest complaint I have right now. I use ventrilo / skype for like 90% of my communication but I really don't want to voice chat with randos.
Was discussing tanking mechanics with some dude from a previous mission last weekend when someone in my party just sucked me into the dungeon without warning. Was like "o ok cool thanks, guess that conversation is done."
Had a similar experience last weekend as well. I was talking to a dude about Halatali, since I had just reached the level for it.
Guy: "Want to come with us into Halatali? We need a healer!"
Me: "Sure, but it says I can't enter. Do you know where the quest is?"
Guy: "Hang on, let me ask my friend."
....
Me: "Were you able to find out where I should go?"
YOU CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH PLAYERS WHO ARE BOUND BY DUTY!
O...oh. Okay. I guess I'll look online or something... and I guess I won't be joining your dungeon party either...
Unless it's something that's time sensitive? What if it was FFXI, you were discussing ADL strategies with a friend from another LS right before run time / during brief NM farming pre-ADL. You can then use that information to help your run, not hurt it.
In FFXIV that isn't an option. If sending brief tells is hampering your play, the person playing is the problem - not the system.
See. This is a fucking mountain.
One I grind my teeth over. Holy shit there were like 3 or 4 conversations I was trying to have that kept getting cut off. And everyone I talked to about this was bright eyed saying 'Oh it's not bad, I don't want tells anyways!' No no no. This needs fixed by launch or I foresee myself and many others bitching..
Edit: I post slowly.
Name one MMO out there that blocks all whispers/tells while doing anything at any point or time of you playing. I had a friend trying to send me a tell to invite him to the linkshell once I was done. I was doing back to back dungeons for 3 hours. He kept giving up/coming back/giving up and then later searched my phone number up by some shady means and called me.
I don't know who thought it would be a good idea to do this but I'd like to smack him silly.
It's a small but extremely aggravating inconvenience.
I was on the side of "meh, doesn't matter, everyone who matters is on voice chat" up until week 2 of phase 3. When I started talking to more people after doing runs with them, discussing mechanics / possible future runs / schedules etc and started getting cut off every time I talked to a npc to turn in a quest and got a CS instead I got pissed off really quickly.
It's a major problem but if they structured their servers incorrectly for cross realm data transfer (which it seems they did) this will not be a small fix and their entire server design would need to be ripped up from the basic levels and rebuilt. This isn't a magic switch fix. If they haven't started fixing it already don't expect to see any kind of fix for this any time soon
Everything.
It's so fucking annoying especially when everyone was logging on and rushing to do missions and you can't even send them a tell for anything. I was banging my head against the wall because I couldn't nail people down and I wasn't sure what they were doing.
I literally sent a mog letter to them hoping they'd see the little mail icon cause I was going bonkers after 20+ duty bound messages.
What Mina said. Any mission cut-scene or mission fight does the same thing. Any time you're "bound by duty" you can't get tells. Any time you have to drop party to do something is counted in this problem.
Which is another bullshit problem. Fuck having to drop party every time I want to do a mission when everyone in my party is across the world.
What the heck? Doesn't that blow holes into their reasoning for why the problem exists? Didn't they say it had to do with the fact that your character could be off on another server?
Surely just watching a stupid cutscene or mission doesn't transport you off-world... right? Unnnnnggghhhh
