So have people decided what determination actually does then?
I must have missed it.

If you want to think enmity cap, think of it this way.
Warcraft which is somewhat ancient game in todays standards, caps "threat" somewhere in the multi billions. You theoretically could never reach in no matter how long you spent doing damage. FFXIV team probably plans to you know, let people level to 99 some day, and do possibly a large amount of damage by then, so they probably went ahead and just put the threat ceiling at some obscene number so they won't have to ever worry about it.
Always possible !
Randomly, there can be other factors in threat at play like some games do such as...
Taking damage = threat reduction, Longer you do nothing = threat reduction... and so on.
Personally, I don't really care too much on mechanics, as long as its looking at me while I'm tanking, and not looking at me when I'm not tanking, thats all that matters to me >.>
determination effects your damage output and the amount you are healed for. based on what seiken said, it seems to effect auto attack more greatly than ability damage. this could just as well be a difference in the formulas being calculated separately and thus determination effecting one greater than the other.
all of the stats have pretty clear explanations though. so far the only thing ive seen seem to not work as stated was convalescence not working on abilities like it says, but that's what i was told from friends who played with it and second wind.
FFX1 is the only game I recall playing where there was an actual enmity cap; computers may not be able to compute infinitely but they can computer pretty fraking high. Then again, it being SE and all....

Hello again to all of you eagerly awaiting FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. Yoshi-P here, bringing you the forty-seventh Letter from the Producer!
I hope everyone who's been accepted into the beta has been enjoying themselves so far. The team is carefully reading over all your feedback, verifying and squashing urgent bugs. We've received many critical reports for the PlayStation 3 version, in particular, and they've all been resolved without incident.
Now that we're halfway through phase 3, all that's left is to stress test the duty finder, and to monitor server stability over a long period. It won't be long until phase 4, early access, and the big day arrive, so the team is really giving it their all.
It's been hectic preparing for release, but I've managed to sneak in a little anonymous game time during phase 3 as well. This past weekend I was playing as a conjurer, partying with random players to collect gear from the dungeons. No matter how many runs I did though, not a single robe dropped. But then, on my last run, the robe I'd been waiting for finally appeared in the loot list! Needless to say, I lotted on it right away—but then the thaumaturge lotted and won by two points. It was all I could do to type "Congrats!" while biting back my tears.
Anyway, let's put those unfortunate events behind us. Now that the latest testing period has ended, I'll be heading to Paris for this year's Japan Expo. Not only will I be giving a presentation on FFXIV: ARR, but I'll also be doing interviews with a number of media outlets. My schedule's looking more hectic by the minute.
As producer and director, things will only get tougher from here on out. As much as I hate riding those metallic nightmares they call airplanes, I think I can muster up the courage if it means meeting all of our fans in Europe.
(That's not to say our North American and Japanese fans aren't important too. )
And with that, I'm off to Europe. See you soon!
Good to hear that everything is fine and still on schedule.
I hope all the guys that do the extensive stat testing are remembering that algorithms will be changing in phase 4 lol![]()

Regarding the Next Beta Test Schedule (07/03/2013)
Thank you for your participation in the beta test for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.
The next Beta test is scheduled to begin at 2:00 a.m. (PDT)/9:00 a.m. (GMT) on July 5th, 2013.
Starting from the next Beta test, the stress testing of the duty finder is planned to be conducted. However, the final QA check of the system is still in progress.
As a result, there is a possibility where the duty finder will not become available at the start, but instead will be implemented through the update that will be conducted during the Beta test.
With the testing details including when the duty finder will become available and also the closing schedule of the next Beta test, we will be making another announcement before the test begins.
We look forward to your active participation in the beta test for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.
No end date so possibly 24/7 test?
Its beta, why do they need to finish the QA check? Can't we as the players/testers help them in that process?
That's how I read it... seeing as I was specifically looking for the end date throughout the post. Means jack shit still though, as progress still isn't saved. Way I look at it, /legacy has like what another 20 days before they can start playing the game for realsies? (54 countdown, -7 early access, - 1-3 pause break, ÷2 someone mentioned we were halfway through P3 at the time)Originally Posted by Ratatapa
Because they already know some of the issues/bugs, and they want the players to help them find the things they *don't* know about, and if they release it with known bugs, 95% of the "testers" will simpy report the known bugs and actual bugs will get lost in the noise.
Honestly I think they should cull testers after each phase to determine who is actually submitting valid feedback and who isn't. Or maybe just cut off their posting ability in the OF but let them continue to play as a stress test. When you have people posting "i cant log in" and completely ignoring the feedback form, it's not like they're going to suddenly improve how they do things next month, so just cut them out to keep the noise level down.
Reddit is freaking out because they didn't list an end time when usually they do. THIS IS GONNA BE THE LONG BETA GUIZ. (I sure hope it is but not getting my hopes up)
Well, the expected end date for Phase 3 is July 14th, so having a week-long (plus a couple days) beta would allow them to get whatever testing they want in without falling off their schedule.
I don't know why anyone would be "freaking out".
first problem is reading 4chanjr.
QA checks are usually stuff like tests plans; covering all aspects of functionality in various situations and setups. You can't really rely on public beta testers to thoroughly test something when it comes to functionality, let alone report and submit bugs about it (and do it correctly). Too much responsibility for us, but they can use us for stress testing and feedback on what works and doesn't work and what is retarded (Dev QA gets a little narrow sighted in this).
Also, fuck replying to you Chari. I'm just watching your sig over and over again instead of typing.
that's why everyone needs to report the issues with Bard!
Songs not effecting the caster; one song per Bard (and resulting issues)
