I didn't because we were talking specifically about battle themes at first and unless there's a Distant Worlds battle, I don't think it qualifies. If other people started talking about other stuff that's on them.

What could Archers possibly attack with then.. Smack them with the bow?
Punching with their free hand? lol
Maybe they'll use a dust kick, or hurl insults.
Good. That shit was confusing and unnecessary.Jobs won't have levels and as such won't need to be leveled up. Jobs are an advanced form of the class that unlocks them. So for example purposes, a level 50 Gladiator would be a level 50 Paladin. (Example only!)
Also we can confirm that we'll be changing the term "ranks" (as in rank 50 Pugilist) to "levels" (as in level 50 Pugilist) along with the removal of the physical level. We'll also be changing skill points to experience points.
In summation:
Rank > Level
Skill points > Experience points
Job unlocks better be epic, and better have their own quests for special ability unlocks. If you just unlock it and are at fifty 100% good to go... that's going to be some lame content. They may as well have just changed the current classes to the new ones if thats the case.
That does sound pretty lame if that's the case.
My guess would be developing jobs via a guild mark type system since you can't really level as the job if you're already 50.
Edit: Also if physical level is going the way of the dodo (zing) what's gonna become of stat distribution?
I'm not sure what you guys were expecting. Obviously this is the only solution that doesn't force people that already have 50s into unnecessary extra grinding.
It won't make sense to you guys cause you're already at end game and seeing these game changing updates. To someone leveling from scratch it'll seem normal or expected.
Jobs shouldn't be considered content. Thats part of normal character progression. Content is dungeons/bcnms/pvp/quests/etc.
Err, you guys did read it was only an example right? There's no confirmation as I see it that you need to be rank 50.
Erm... The quote was in response to someone asking if you needed to be at 50 for a job. The answer is clearly no.
This is fine as long as they add content to go with it (for the people that already have a bunch of things at 50 anyways). If they are just going to give us these jobs and not much else, people will just be bored again rather quickly.
edit: Personally though, I'm not a fan, but I'm probably in the minority of people that actually enjoy leveling jobs.
Finally rep comments about the patch. It's gotten more interesting lately, hopefully there's enough stuff to last for few weeks, as well as few Topics posts to go with it.
Leveling is a way for me to experience content. For example, I am level 20 and I am looking forward to level 22, 24, 25, 26, 28, and 30 abcdefg. Those should include new spells and abilities, new armors and weapons, new leves, access to new areas, new quests, and mission progression.
I don't level for the sake of leveling. However, I want leveling to be fun so that the grind seems less grindy... No matter what its a grind of course. Whether you're grinding quests ala WoW, or grinding crabs ala old FFXI. Grinding can be boring if the content you get to experience as a reward is great, and FFXI did this. There was always new things to do as you leveled up, and then even more at max level. FFXIV sort of has neither at the moment, but at some point it will have one or the other.
Leveling is important to control the player growth along with the class and party/combat system. While it shouldn't be a face-punching system, it should be interesting and immersive enough to keep the player interested in whats to come whether it be a new spell/ability or new zone/camp/mob/equipment/dungeon/quest etc.
