SCH is definitely interesting as a pet job, and more so with fairies. While Im confident in SE to make it lore appropriate, it still doesnt feel right. Me personally Im not a fan of overly masculine or overly feminine classes. (Im gay btw) and I dont really think the fairies are cool at all.

That being said I can get over it.

Yeah the fairy is a little odd. Not a big deal but I'd personally just let people choose from a few different familiars. Or maybe Lulu dolls or something. Moomba? Yus.

Well, part of the reason SCH got a fairy was because the guy who did the art for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy kinda uh, was asked to design the fairy for SCH if I remember correctly from something that Yoshida said at one point. I actually think thats where they got the idea (from remembering the fairies from Bravely Default).

Also on the topic of SCH never having a fairy, that's partially why I like it a lot. It's a classic job with a new spin on it, which is what makes it so interesting and also why there should be room for innovation when it comes to representating classical jobs, or else it would get a bit too predictable and stale.

I personally welcome the new change.

So what exactly is getting emailed on the 8th if we've not even registered our pre order codes yet?

I don't get what's so "out of place" with SCH tbh. It's an healing job and fairies are always associated with restorative/support magic, especially in the FF series (hello Sylph summon). If you're a SCH and your job as a tactician is to support your party which other creature would you go after?
The job has never been about "studying" ever since it left FFIII, XI added a completely different spin on it and no one had issues back then. FFXIV is actually following the same idea except they wanted a more specific role and dropped the nuking part of the job.
SCH is fine, it's actually more interesting than it's ever been imo.

Physical mail. This is also a Japanese-only notice, so I wouldn't make any assumptions about receiving anything in the NA or EU regions.

Didn't say that, didn't even imply it.

That all being said, it's a minor issue. And maybe they'll patch it all up by saying they are Magitek Androids that just look like fairies!
And again, the only reason you're saying this is because it doesn't fit into your perfect view of FF thing #14123, not because it doesn't make sense or because it doesn't work (or because they haven't explained it). This is why FF fans are funny.

I just find it really interesting that we're even seeing Scholar this "early" in the game since it's never been a clutch class in other numbered titles. The pet spin on it is quite cool for sure. Gotta wonder if it's gonna be a limiting factor or an advantage though. We've yet to see SE really nail a pet job all-around (solo utility, end game utility, general usefulness, etc.). I'm stoked to see how it'll work.

Maybe they're like... Scholars of pornography. They use the Fairies to re-enact the scenes mid-air so they can "study" it from every angle. Gulkeeva would have it to lvl 50 in like 4 minutes. Books, Fairies, there you go.

I think its a more acceptable argument then some other ones we've had (legacy vs peasants for example)

Fairies may not be new to FF but incorporating them with SCH is an interesting enough debate. If you don't like it change the topic, don't partake, or just get over it cause there is pretty much nothing to do but argue about the legitimacy of fairies with SCH till we get some new info.

That being said I'm curious if there was a "better" job more suited for fairies (besides SMN) or if another "pet" would be more suited for SCH (and to a degree ACN / SMN)

Most of us were expecting it to be a week because that's what the roadmap says, but as others have said, the roadmap has gone out the window at this point, so it's just vain hope.

He's wrong from that point of view anyway. SCH has been in two main FFs and a couple spin-offs, and the only two consistent elements between the different incarnations are the use of books and the Libra/Scan spell. I'm not sure why people are acting like there's any sort of consistency or much precedent about what SCH should or should not be.

Jobs in this game are tightly tied to nations or individuals. In this case:
In an age long past, when mankind flourished under the radiance of arcane mastery, the island of Vylbrand was home to a city-state called Nym. Though the history of that age tells of countless wars waged with earth-shattering incantations, it was the brilliant strategic maneuvering of Nym's scholars that allowed their mundane army of mariners to throw back would-be conquerers time and again. These learned men and women defended the freedom of their tiny nation with their unique command over spell-weaving faeries, utilizing the creatures' magicks to heal the wounded and bolster the strength of their allies.
You're an scholar of Nym, an ancient, magical, floating city. That does not explain the fairies (yet) but at least it explains why the theme of the job feels "different".

Scholar is a class you can do a lot of different things with and not fuck up and have to listen to the people who post here or the OF or DoW or Reddit get too angry. It doesn't have a set role by FF history and it doesn't have a huge cult fanbase of terribad carebears like the rest of the classes. If there's a reason Scholar was chosen so early it would be because it would be accepted for whatever they made it to be (and they needed to make another healer).
