Scholar is a class you can do a lot of different things with and not fuck up and have to listen to the people who post here or the OF or DoW or Reddit get too angry. It doesn't have a set role by FF history and it doesn't have a huge cult fanbase of terribad carebears like the rest of the classes. If there's a reason Scholar was chosen so early it would be because it would be accepted for whatever they made it to be (and they needed to make another healer).

Cause Yoshi-P said it himself 1) it will be a week long and 2) he even said he wanted the OB to be a free trial of sorts.

They are giving returning players 2 weeks free iirc and new players a month, I cant imagine them making any sort of profit from XIV ever, even when they charged subs it couldn't have offset the expensive cost of making an MMO and it flopping. I would imagine Yoshi's logic (although he is a businessman) is the long run. A week of open beta and the at least 2 weeks of free game time is nothing compared to getting people hooked and spreading the word of how FFXIV has improved.

I do slightly agree that I dont see many freebies in the future but they still have to get people playing their game that included disappointed 1.x players. There is a reason why free samples exist.

Also Open Beta is still suppose to be a test, hard to really test / get feedback from just 1 weekend.

He's wrong from that point of view anyway. SCH has been in two main FFs and a couple spin-offs, and the only two consistent elements between the different incarnations are the use of books and the Libra/Scan spell. I'm not sure why people are acting like there's any sort of consistency or much precedent about what SCH should or should not be.

I'm pretty sure that when it comes to summoning fairies, there is a job that has been associated with that, and it's not Scholar.

Whoa, you can't just drop that info and not finish the rest. I'm not going to claim to have played every FF ever, so what job has ever summoned fairies? The only thing I can think of is like... Beastmaster from tactics.

Sylphs are also a type of fairy, which would add Rydia to the list.

As of today, SCHs in these games have drawn skills from Blue Mage (White Wind), Samurai (Gil Toss), Black Mage (black magic), White Mage (white magic) and Geomancer (weather spells). I'm sorry that you draw the line at Summoner, I suppose.

SCH is a wildcard job. Churchill really said it best.

The moment they introduced the Final Fantasy Feeling-jobs they locked themselves out of doing anything interesting/outside the box with nearly everything they will ever do with the system.

The greatest proof of this is people bitching about scholar's identity in the franchise out of all things.
