HDMI Problems

Ok since my TV Cable is not able to help me, let's see what you guys can tell me

My TV is an LG 42 inches with 3 HDMI ports

I have a PS3 on HDMI1
Apple TV on HDMI2
Ipad2 on HDMI 2 (Unplug Apple TV for it)
And Illico on HDMI3

First of all what is Illico, Illico is the Digital machine that gives me Cable from Videotron (TV cable company)

Anyway My HDMI problems comes from Videotron, If I watch a HD Show, sometimes the screen will come black for 5sec comes back on then black then on etc

It can do that on any channel, the only way I can solve temporaly this problem is by reseting the Digital machine

The Ipad2 Apple TV and PS3 DOESNT DO THIS

I tried changing the HDMI Cable and the port where my Illico is plugged to no good.

When I call my TV company, they said we gave you component cable, use them

So I told them NO, my Wii is on the Component and if your Machine has a HDMI support it.

Then he said the problem is normal because ONLY BLUE RAY can support HDMI to their fulllest

Called him a bullshitter because my Apple TV is not a blueray device and it works #1

Same for the Ipad2

sounds like the device is doing an hdmi handshake often because its losing the hdcp compliance check that is required on all hdmi devices. normally only keeps blacking like that on one of 2 things: shitty device or shitty tv. id stop using hdmi on it.

Cable companies + HDMI just seem to be shit. I have comcast in california, and was the same boat, told me to use component which I have my wii plugged into, and the only HDMI device that worked was a DVR box which they wanted me to pay for.

As for advice, may want to see if you can go to one of the local offices and see about swapping the box and explain to them. If you have other provider options, make some threats. When I threatened to switch to UVerse, Comcast was all over my nuts to keep me.

Could it also be because the cable box is trying to show in 1080p, while the tv only supports 1080i?

On my pc monitor that claims to support 1080p, it will black screen my PS3 and xbox until I switch it to 1080i

It's the opposite the TV supports up to 1080p while the box is 1080i or 720

This may or may not help you. When I was an installer for DirecTV, sometimes we would get this problem on random TV's. The box would want to switch to 1080i or p depending on the show, but the TV would just bounce between the two. Our fix was to set the box to either one or the other, as in not let the show or channel decide the quality, but force it to use one or the other. No clue if your box or TV has that option. I think it was called "native resolution" with Direct and that had to be turned off.

I'll have to Check the tv butmin the box I can do 480p 480p zoomed 720p and 1080i

Anyway ATM I don't have that problem with the new box
